I have no boost and it makes a funny noise when driven ( hear vid ) , no noise on tick over , and it gets louder with more load .

I have checked the rubber pipes and cant find a leak , the compressor spindle looks ok.

I'm looking for the cheapest way to repair this if there is one !

PS let me know if you can see the video as its saying i need more posts to share links ?

Check to see if the compressor wheel is actually moving when the engine is running also did you check for any play in the shaft ??

Sounds like a major boost leak or the turbo shaft has snapped and sheered a comp wheel. Check the EGR circuit to see if theres any exhaust gases leaking, but it does sound more compressor side of things from that video.

The compressor is spinning away nicely when on idle , it does look like it might be hitting the side though ,

I can feel a bit of play in the shaft , but i have no reference as to what is normal , it feels like im moving it less than a mm .
When driving literally 0% boost though , like i was driving without the turbo actuator connected.

I think i will just do a proper job and get the whole system out , probably could do with a few new pipes ...

Check for play in And out, it does sounds like it's on last legs... Beware That Diesel engines can run on own oil so- when shaft breaks- you won't be able to stop the engine unless you stall it In gear ! It's a good time to upgrade the turbo to a gt1749va or a bv43 turbo if you decide that 110 Bhp is not enough !

What do you mean by check play in and out ? check the compressor side?
It dosent feel loose , its an oil pressured bearing isnt it , so when the engine is of there will be a a tiny bit of play in the shaft wont there?

Yea one of those turbos and a re-map would be tasty , however im poor :( , i might have to go n/a........

Sounds like something is touching the housing. If you can see marks in the compressor housing it's a fair bet the bearings have had it.

You can see the edges of the compressor wheel are mashed and the inner bore of the housing is all marked from where its been rubbing.

Yea it is quite sharp , i cut my finger on the blades .

I took off all the pipes and it still makes the noise so it cant be any leaks .

I am going to head down to " All Audi" in Bristol to see if they have any nice turbos in

Seems like there is very little play , i have taken of the flexy pipe and the other side feels as tight , it does move slightly though.

New used turbo and there is boost where that was no boost before.

Just out of interest what power is a gt1749va good for? Is it the standard TDI 130 turbo?
Yea it was the standard turbo , it's gone again ....
It has 110 bhp apparently but it has enough torque to get you about
