Haldex Drain Plug

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if the part number for the drain plug is 02D 525 729?

It's all I can find and is coming up on fleabay for the TT/R32 Golf.

Will this fit my 8l chassis?

8N TT and Mk4 R32 share the same fake 4wd system as the S3, so yea, should be fine!

There's a vw spares page on the net listing that part number for 8l's so looks to be ok to fit but just thought i would ask in case anyone had to previoisly verify it before buying and smashing the old one out lol

He he I wish I bought a FWD A3 then I could simply replace the whole instead of a yearly service and MOT.

Regarding the washer and plug yes I bought the one from ebay, just make sure you clean the surfaces and do not over tighten.

Reckon the last guy who fitted the plug to mine overtightned, rounded off and looks like some work involved to get the current one out...

chisel and hammer it out by making a groove holding it straight on them angle it so it's unwinding the thread and hit away! shouldn't take too much effort

If you can tell me exactly when your "4 wheel drive" car is 4 wheel drive, I'll entertain this comment...

And just to be clear, not only am I an EX fake Quattro owner (for good reason) ;-) I am also a PROPER quattro owner... Although to be fair, I've even converted that to RWD

Unfortuneately not

All production 'proper' quattro are supplied with an open front axle and rear axle differential

Even the RS6 + RS4

LSD upgrades are required, just as for a Haldex car (example)

Just as a FWD A3 is really 1WD without an LSD ..

No no no... The 4wd systems you talk of here are permanent 4wd with electronically controlled power distribution, which have indeed been dominating rally/rally cross, but is not to be confused with the Haldex system... In comparison the Haldex is vastly inferior

The Hewland transverse gearbox/front axle LSC and central LSC unit, as fitted to the Octavia WRC;

These days LSC have been reduced to a unit called a Rear Disengagement Clutch (its the front of this SADEV ST4-49)
With this system there is effectively no central diff - just on/off power to rear axle (as per R5 rally cars)

Relvance to Haldex ?

You make a haldex operate like a very basic Hewlands LSC - at vastly cheaper cost

Take a gander a speed-engagement modes on the likes of the HPA TM or CRC controller
Does automatically what a rallycross driver has to do manually

Not something you can do with a static 4x4 system

Lots of cars run Haldex. Guessing they're all fake too? Aventador, r8, Veyron etc etc. It works, keeps me on the road.. Win win.

Albeit it's not the best system the Gen1 but it works.

Oh ok, fair enough... That's quite impressive! I thought you referring to the likes of the Subaru's and Evo's

Still, there's no way that will compare with an out the box Haldex system in terms of performance...

The Mitsubushi ACD system is pretty identical to Haldex (the actual LSC sitting the front transfer box), in both function and capability

Out the box though - un-upgraded, VAG haven't used Haldex anywhere close to its full potential

Upgraded, stock Evo's and Scooby's are less capable - you then need to upgrade their factory diffs to match perofrmance

Also you could cut a slot in the bolt head with a slitting disc, then undo it with a flat blade screwdriver, possibly with a pair of mole grips clamped to the screwdriver blade for extra leverage.

Hi,
make sure you get the plug really clean and get a good quality allen key, I think they are 5 or 6 mm and mine turned in the plug I used a neighbour's in the end he measured my cheap one which was 0.3mm smaller eg 4.7 or 5.7 instead of 4.99 / 5.99 also I found mine seemed to flex so much more.

I assume you're changing the filter too, the cheap special tools are awkward unless you grind off some of the handle or remove the plastic petrol tank cover.

Filter is ok was done by the garage last time it was all due, but from now on will do it all myself.

For now it's just the oil that reuires changing, and today I picked up some multi spline sockets and managed to hammer one slightly oversized in following the spray of some wd-40 and she came out first time, releived to say the least!

Going nowhere as I'm off work for the rest of next week so I nipped the plug back up and will await the new plug arrival and crack on swapping the oil!
