Been a keen follower of this forum since the beginning of 2014. Took delivery of my first Audi (A3 Sportback) in March of that year. I am on a 3 year PCP so recently placed order for an S3! Very excited just does not come close!

Have to say thanks to all of you for all of the information on this site; you all have unknowingly helped me make various spec decisions and taught me a lot about the A3. I've read the majority of 8V posts on here (I don't bother with the tuning ones) and its a great forum.

Order just moved to 'Preparation' yesterday, BW34 so hoping to get it in September.

Moving from A3 Sportback S line 2.0 TDI 150 6 speed, Daytona Grey, privacy glass, parking plus, light and rain.

To: S3 Sportback, Daytona Grey, S tronic, hold assist, privacy glass and rear sensors.

Welcome along to ASN. From one nice A3 to another S3. Big jump up, enjoy. Not too sure you would need Hill Hold Assist. With the S-tronic it's not really required.

Fantastic current car and the replacement will be amazing.

Nice colour but the neighbours will spot a new colour more easily!

Welcome to the forum !!

New car looks amazing - obviously a fellow Daytona fan.

This is the sort of subtle under the radar car change I'd have to do as long as it's the same colour she never know LoL - sigh, if only it were that easy ;o)

Thanks @Scottyg I spec'ed Hill Hold on my current car but added it after the order. It was added to the finance correctly but not to the build so came without it. So because of that I wanted it this time around; although I originally ordered a manual. The next day I changed the order to an S tronic. Could you advise why it would not really be needed?

As you say, big jump in many ways. Still lots to learn!

I love Daytona, it looks great even when dirty when I am being a bit lazy with the cleaning!

Ha, re hill hold assist, surely it's worth 75 quid just to fill the button blank ;)

Hold assist is of some use on the S-tronic, kind of wish I spec'd it

It means sitting at lights etc you don't need your foot on the brake

Totally agree, but someone will be along in a minute to say using it is inconsiderate to the driver behind :)

If it was more like the Merc version I would have spec'd it myself, I will miss just pressing the break firmly in to engage "hold", didn't like the idea of a button.

In a sense the Audi version is better as you don't need to stab the brake to get HOLD to activate, it comes on as soon as you come to a stop.

I've never used it so unsure on how it works, but sounds like a nice feature

Thanks guys. I am sure the neighbours will notice the change in the purr!

I think I wore the missus out talking about it (I looked at the 1.4 TFSI originally). When I decided to get the S3 it was going to be with no extras; she wanted the colour and privacy glass. She does not drive but really appreciates the look of the car - happy days for me!

Its the automation of the brake that I wanted after reading between the difference of how the car holds for 3 seconds after releasing the brake as standard and what Hold Assist gives you.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

However, rather than spending money on a new car I'd recommend spending a bit on your gaff instead! It's looking a bit of a wreck in the picture! :);)

Hill Hold is standard. The option is Hold Assist. Terminology is often confused. I don't agree that it's not needed on an stronic. It's pretty useful in traffic queues.

You don't use the button to engage it - the button enables/disables the feature.
Nice when you get used to it.

I love the photo. Looks like you got right into a castle! How did you do that?

Will a car without "hold assist" roll back on a hill immediately if you do not use the handbrake when pulling away?

My wife's 9k Citigo has this feature as does my current MINI.

You can't use the handbrake because there isn't one.:whistle2:
The Hold Assist feature will keep the car still on a hill, as long as you don't touch the throttle.
But the standard Hill Hold feature is what holds the car when starting off up or down hill.

I've never seen the point of it tbh! I stop on a hill, engage the park brake/switch, when I pull off the park brake disengages itself and I pull away! Never ever rolled back.

Come to think of it, I think even if you just use just the foot brake and then take your foot off the brake it gives you a couple of seconds before you start to roll back!

Exactly. It's the Hill Hold feature that gives that couple of seconds. It's standard.
Hold Assist - optional extra - applies the brake when you come to a stop, so you don't have to keep your foot on the foot brake.
I find that if I just rely on the parking brake releasing automatically then it's rather a fierce start. So I always touch the parking brake switch before moving off (as you would with a hand brake)

I've never notice it tbh, always find it just pulls off with ease! Maybe it works differently on the quattro manual cars?!?

.

I asked my dealer about the Hold Assist and from what he said it sounded clunky to me, he said nothing about it being completely automatic, mind you, to say I'm far from impressed with my dealer would be an understatement. Should've spec'd it, shame I cant adjust my order now

I wish i had gone for HHA, I had it on my GTD and only realised how much i loved it when the temporary car I have been driving for the last week didn't have it. Can you imagine the depravity of having to pull the button back every time you stop the car?, it feels like the dark ages again...

Clunky , no way , got it on my stronic tdi , never touched the handbrake yet after 300miles just tap the brake at the lights and hha comes on , touch the throttle and you're off ,superb . 1st car with it ,when in park mode handbrake comes on automatically.
