I fitted a pair of rear footwell lighting looms the other day and as part of the process I had to feed the cable from the front bulkhead to under each seat of my A3.
As I was fumbling under the carpet in the driver's footwell (it's actually very thick rubbery foam with the carpet on top) I discovered it was wet under there!
The passengers side was completely dry.
I had thought that perhaps a grommet in the car floorpan had come adrift allowing water to enter but I had a look today under the car and there's several underbody covers present, so I don't think the source is there.
This leads me to consider other sources for this moisture , and 2 I can think of are the rear washer fluid line and perhaps a sunroof drain tube.
I once had a washer fluid line split in the front passenger footwell of my A4 and it was easy to identify the source of this liquid as it had a distinct lemony smell!
The water in my A3 has no smell so on reflection don't think that is the source.
That brings me to perhaps the panoramic roof?
I haven't been able to see where the drain tubes are ,or indeed if there are any.
Does anyone have any ideas whether this moisture could be from the roof?
If I hadn't been fitting these rear looms I'd still be none the wiser about the water there, there's no condensation inside the car at all.
Thanks.

Thanks.
I've just had a read and nothing immediately springs to mind, although I'm well aware of the bulkhead plenum chamber becoming blocked on the B5 A4 due to a crappy drain bung design.
Perhaps I didn't make it absolutely clear but the carpet is bone dry on the surface, it's only when you really pull the carpet up (not easy with all that thick foam bonded to it) and feel underneath that it's wet.
It could have been wet under there for ages, if I hadn't installed the rear footwell lighting I'd still not be aware.....
My money is on either a drain tube for sunroof or a washer hose, does anyone know the exact routes so I can investigate?
Thanks!

How wet, puddle or just moist, as sometimes it can sweat a little under there as I noticed in my car, dry it up, lift carpet & leave to dry, maybe a blowdryer, then check in a few weeks.

Nessy, the windscreen leaked over the last winter and was replaced early this year. It's just historical damp and will dry out eventually, although I thought it had already dried out. Probably a good idea to remove the carpet and let it dry out completely.

Thanks for the info, will definitely get it out and give it a chance to dry....
Cheers.
