Yes i would think it should be Audi uk that have final say. Been waiting since thursday for fone call from the person dealing with it, trying everyday to get a hold of her. No the solicitors advice was to get a better deal for myself and use the court case lost in America as proof that they are at fault. Just actually getting someone who can give me answers is the problem.
Quick update,
Car failed officially the consumption test, handed over my service history and invoices for oil and service items from tps to be forwarded on to audi UK.
Topped car up with oil and drove home.
20 minutes later I received a phone call saying audi will foot the bill 100% and booked car in 4 weeks time for repair.
I am absolutely delighted to be honest and was half expecting a struggle like some others have experienced.
I am guessing my phone call to audi UK helped this a lot.

I am the owner of the blue Audi A5 that needs a new engine due to tensioner failure. I know you are the manager of the service department at Audi Aberdeen and that you are aware of conversations between M and my father regarding my vehicle and that the only offer given to me for the engine replacement from yourselves being £9913.98 with only £3800.98 being footed by Audi.
This left me to investigate another route as this offer is never going to be an option for me as I do not have that amount of money to part with at one time. My other option was to get it sorted out-with Audi, but as you know a car that has had an engine replaced with a reconditioned engine would be hard to sell or keep its value and also this replacement engine could have the same problem and so this is no longer an option. As I looked more and more into the problem my car has suffered I see that its across the globe and has affected alot of peoples lives. I know you have nothing to do with manufacturing these engines but either do I and for people to be driving around (not knowing, like me) is really worrying.
I know Audi Uk and of course Audi as a whole are using loopholes to make owners contribute to the costs, for example full service history. Which I have never been asked to prove in order for Audi to contribute more to my repair, I was only made aware last week that this was an issue with my case. I would only need to show my invoices from my services to prove that the oil was to Audi standard. The argument I am faced against is that my car did not complete the "oil cosumption test" so it cannot be determined if that was in fact what caused it. I had in fact enquired about an oil consumption test just the week before as the vehicle had began to use a litre of oil every 200 miles which it wasn't doing weeks beforehand but unfortunately it was too late. If its not the engine guzzling the oil, what has caused this? A timing chain maintained, failing and completely destroying the engine, what could have stopped this? Doing a oil consumption test I was never made aware by recall had to be done on my vehicle!?
I apologise for the length of this email but this has gave me endless worry every night since I received the first and only offer from Audi. I feel that Audi have to rectify there design fault by letting owners know that this may be an issue. This is Audi's manufacturing fault not the owners. You buy an Audi in confidence that you will be looked after on and off the road.

I can't believe owners are still being treated this way. Surely Audi should be repairing all cars for free irrespective of the circumstance.
It had a major impact on me.
The final straw was when 6 months later I had to replace 3 out of the 4 shock absorbers because they were leaking. The car was only 4 years old. I almost had a mild case of Tourette's in the middle of the garage when the sales rep asked if I had been driving the car off road. 3 months later the car was sold!

Working in a factory all day with grumpy old men regularly brings out my tourretes.
It's not professional apparently....

I've had the call to inform me that my rebuild is complete. However, not completely free of charge as I needed a new water pump. The garage said it was best to do it now while the engine was out as there would be no labour charges. I'm hoping I'll notice a difference

Never thought I'd ever see myself do it at this time in my life, but it should have been a 3.0T A6 Quattro S-Line, and instead it's an E350 AMG Sport. tell you what, I'm really happy!; Just wish it had 4 wheel drive!

Oofff!!! Nice! I'm a long way off changing mine. Despite its issue I do love it. It's nothing special but it drives nice it's got a kick when you need it and when I've used a clay bar and then waxed it it looks awesome.

Make sure everybody that is getting their engines replaced that you get new cambelt tensioner a as there is a well known manufacturing fault with those as well!
As regards to build quality, Audis are no worse than BMW's. They still suffer manufacturing and design defects as well. At least they are alot better built than Jags and Mercs!

Just got home after picking my A4 from Cardiff Audi. As nice as it was driving a 16 plate A3 sportback etc for a week, I pulled up in the car park saw my A4, all valeted and sparkling waiting for me and it looked amazing! Just driven it home and I know it sounds sad chaps, but I wouldn't be without it now! Stunning!

Here's a new one for you. Had the repair done and picked the car up 31st may. On the way to work this morning the red "low oil pressure stop immediately" light came on, shut the car off, rang Blackburn audi at 7:30 and they picked the car up on a lorry by 9. Spoke to them at half 4 and unbelievably they said it was due to the oil pick up pipe being blocked with silicone!!! I can only assume this silicone has come from when the old sump was taken off and not cleaned properly or they put too much on when putting the sump back on and it's squeezed out when they have tightened it up and got inside the sump.
To say I'm not happy is an understatement. I've done around 300 miles since the repair and I am now concerned that this silicone may have been restricting the oil to the engine before it became fully blocked and caused damage. Also I believe the cam chain tensioner operates under the oil pressure therefore no pressure or reduced pressure prior to the light coming on will mean it's not been doing its job and potentially knocking the timing out as the chain would have been slack and not under tension.
To say I'm not happy is an understatement. I've done around 300 miles since the repair and I am now concerned that this silicone may have been restricting the oil to the engine before it became fully blocked and caused damage. I had to get loads done on my BMW yet my Citroen was utterly reliable!
Sometimes you just get a bad car regardless of make. However with these TFSI's, it was just down to a badly designed engine rather than reliability.

Well I hope you all get a satisfactory result and continue to enjoy your cars, but for me the Audi brand has been severely tarnished.
This is my third Audi and the most reliable car I have ever owned. 20 years old in a couple of months and it's still going strong!

Great choice of Audi! I still think my cab below was the best built too..
As for future ownership I will certainly be moving away from Audi unfortunately due to the way I was treated over this oil burning fiasco!

I just got fed up. Because the sales manager knew me so well, he didn't b-sh** me. The problem was, whenever I took the car to the garage, he used to say 'Another common Audi fault I'm afraid' then proceed to screw me for over £1k!

Well partially good news for me.
Audi have agreed to completely cover the cost of an engine rebuild for me, and this is with sketchy service history:
Now I've asked them about the tensioner and they've said they won't cover the cost of this, and they have now emailed me back saying it will be £599 to change the cambelt and water pump. Wtf. I've asked for some clarification since I was asking about the tensioner only, and it's a ****** cam chain not a belt, lol.

- Second service minor 24k Main dealer
- Third service major 36k local garage
- Fourth service major 53k local garage

Having major problems with my case been offered 90% because car was serviced in Ireland and do not have type of oil used in service and garage does not have breakdown of oils used but have confirmed they use the correct grade on phone and being in uk can't pop over to see garage in person
Car has been serviced more then needed and Audi uk are now saying I should not believe everything I read on the internet including this forum and won't take my case any further
Audi wearside won't give me exact figure for repair anywhere between 500 and over 1000 anyone got any advice bit shocked I was told people are not telling truth about settlements and no one without full Audi service history has had 100% claim
They talked to a claim advisor who handled my case whilst I was on phone which took all of 10 seconds so very frustrated about the whole situation and being told basically tough that's it any recommendations on next steps I could take would be greatly appreciated

Is this recommended? I've only seen people in here saying about the tensioner, this is getting expensive lol.
Anyone out there think that changing the water pump is a good idea, I'm just trying to help someone out there from needing to find more money if the pump needs changing later on?

been really helpful reading through all your comments, I recently bought a 58 plate a4, i absolutely love it but as you can guess what i'm going to say next the oil consumption started to concern me. At this point after researching I found I was with all you guys and sharing this major problem! It is in for the oil consumption test next week so all I can do is wait and prey at this point! My question is this though.... it has a full service history mainly completed by Audi, only two services were not one of which was completed by Jaguar.... and the most recent by the guy I bought the car from. I'm really worried that they will use this against me and wondered if any of you have any advice or comforting words regarding this!
As I said I am terrified as at this point I genuinely don't have the money to pay for any work to get it fixed!

My 2010 1.8 TFSI A4 has been fully repaired completely free of charge by Hull Audi. I picked it up on Friday and there is no smoke coming from the exhaust like before, when I put my foot down it is completely clean unlike previously when it looked like I was driving a diesel. They advised me (which I have got in writing) that the cam chain tensioner did not need replacing, even thought I offered to pay the £45 for the part. If anything adverse happens because of this at least I have it in writing that the mechanic advised was fine.
The engine sounds a lot tighter which is great, and obviously having no smoke issues makes me extremely relieved! I'm going to run it back in for 1000 miles and then look at getting a remap (this was my original plan to get but ended up waiting due to this problem). Happy chappy!

Result mate, happy for you, and you have exactly the same plan as me regarding the run in then the map.
Mine is in tomorrow morning for a week, they told me the tensioner is included when I quizzed them about it but I was not convinced by there detail to be honest.
I will force the issue tomorrow when I drop it off and may ask for a written statement like you did.

Sounds strange. Was it some sales person who doesn't know what they're talking about do you think?
P.S. I treat my A4 to some new tailpipe tips last week, now that it's fixed, I think they look great!
Just to confirm, I rang today to check how things are going, they confirmed that on inspection of the cylinder bores, they were scored and out of tolerance to warrant replacement pistons so a new engine was given the go ahead by audi UK.
I asked weather this was just the block and pistons and was told it was a full engine, block, bottom end, timing chain, top end with cams, water pump, etc so all in all pretty much a brand new engine minus ancillaries.
It landed in England this morning and should be getting fitted tomorrow.
