Good to hear the download finished !

Is that 1 left from calculating when you bought your car or does it say so somewhere ? Mine came with out of date maps on so I updated immediately then a couple of months later so not sure what will be counted.

My car was delivered in August 2014 so I simply calculated that updated maps were due in:

1. November 2014
2. May 2015
3. November 2015
4. May 2016
5. November 2016

Hence my understanding that the next update will be 2017 maps available for download in November this year. And then I presume I'll have to buy future updates, but the cost of which is unknown.

Every time that I try and download the latest maps it freezes when asking for my password in the Java app on the Mac. So annoying.

I tried loading updated map from a connect version. I have Techpack only and it didn't work.

I will check through some of the data and see if I can see anything vehicle specific.

It downloads as a .zip so wouldn't have thought so but not sure. Very annoying.

Have asked local dealer how I renew lease but haven't had a reply yet.

Maps that require the SD card with the map data on to be left in SD NAV? (ie doesn't upload to the HDD) are definitely encrypted and require a dealer visit - had the same with the Seat Leon I had previously.

Just to be clear, it doesn't download as a zip. I zipped it up as it was easier to send it to you in that format.

When you download the file from MyAudi it downloads as a zip. You can see it in the progress bar. Will say something like 02100016.zip. I think that it then unpacks the files when downloaded. I could be wrong?

Have emailed my local dealer again today chasing up how I renew my licence to update and also asked if they know if the maps are generic.

I'll have a quick look through the text files in your version and compare against the previous ones I've downloaded for my car. See if anything jumps out as being vehicle specific.

I think it does in the background but then unpacks the files. You never see the zip file. Must be a temp.

Unless the file name in the progress bar is just for show.

Who knows.

Ah yes you are right. As you say it must extract the files from the zip possibly during the verification process.

I've tried searching through the various update files in the update using my VIN number but I'm not finding anything.

I'm not near my PC until later tonight. I'll also have a check through the data.

I think the reason my car wouldn't update from your file is probably down to you having connect.

At the previous round of updates when the map update option disappeared from my.audi a very kind member loaned my their logon so I could download the maps and it worked fine which would suggest that there is nothing in the downloaded map update which is vehicle specific. There may be some sort of date check taking place that then blocks updates after the 5 free ones (so when the car is up to 3 years old) which then needs to be unlocked but really I'm just guessing.

Latest map update has just been released. Previous one was Nov 2015. No idea about the standard SD card nav. Probably updated at dealer.

I don't think HD based is date locked. Waiting on a link to the Techpack non connect version and I'll test. Confident it will work.

If so I'm happy to host something so others can DL if interested.

GB is about 1.2GB. Europe is about 20GB.

Is it asking any of you to log in again right before the download in the Java applet starts? I am on a Mac so you may not be seeing the issue on PC.

Yep. Asks for you to login twice. My guess is so you don't send the download link to anyone else as they would also need the login details.

Gotcha. I wish my Java wouldn't be freezing so I can't log in again. So annoying.

Have just tried updating maps from someone else's update and doesn't appear to work on 1st go. Will try a different memory card just in case....

You have to go into MMI Setup.......top right option, and then go into System Update.

I don't have the update option when i log onto my audi.

I rang the dealer today and they said Audi will update it remotely within 72 hours of them requesting it.

I asked if this was dome via my in car data sim and if i would then be using my data allowance which is insufficient for the file size anticipated.

They responded no idea!!

Why do Audi make even the simplest things so complicated.

Spoke to Audi CS, Apparently even though my 64 plate A5 has the Tech pack with Nav + and Audi connect its not eligible for the free updates? wtf

Yes I think so mate if it follows previous years I expect it'll just be called 2017.

Haha LoL we were talking about the Audi pronounciation issues last week whilst in a Focus - the sat nav in that car is very abrupt sounding you'd dare not disobey !!!
