well it seems many of us are now less active on here! In my case it is due to a busy life and enjoying the RS3..

I have driven 7000 miles in last 3 months 4000 in the RS.

I can honestly say I love her to bits. Best car I have EVER had. Performance is awesome and seems to get better. Economy ...well anything between 15-33 mpg, typically 25-26. She runs far better on higher octane fuel.

Problems.. Squeaky brakes, sometimes can be hesitant in S mode. But overall 9.5 / 10 and always brings a smile.

Would I change my spec? Not a lot, maybe the Black wheels rather than the titanium, maybe advanced key. As for Dynamic pack thank goodness I saved £1500. The standard suspension is absolutely fine for my needs and the standard exhaust sounds good enough!

Thank you Audi.. A classic in the making.

Yep, had mine for a month now and got 1650 miles on it. Love it to bits, the 8P was great but this just does everything that little bit better.

Traction control to "Sport" seems to get rid of any hesitation in S gearbox mode for me.

I love the Dynamic pack, the mag ride is great. I did listen to a video of a non Dynamic pack car the other day though and it still sounded awesome so a result whichever way you go!

Enjoy!

I've got a car in view that has Dynamic Pack. Is it worth having, the ability to soften the ride seems good if it works like the Porsche PASM damping but the salesman said you cant tell the difference, he was referring to the TT though?

I'm a bit apprehensive about S- Tronic - these stories of hesitancy when pulling away, seems to be dangerous if you are pulling out into fast traffic. Also if you select manual and cant use the paddles as you are turning the steering wheel, you use the lever to change up.
How does this work out in practice?

I can't tell the difference between Mag ride and standard. If you want 'softer feel' comfort works fine.
Not too sure how you set 'traction control to sport' ??

The paddles turn with the wheel so no issues changing up and down at all. Actually forces you to drive with hands in an appropriate position.. Just had my first drive of the day.. grins all round every time

I know with PASM you have to try going between Sport and Normal a few times to feel the difference in ride. I did find the non-PASM car very hard so I reckon its best to have Mag ride on the RS3 than not.

I drove a RSQ3 and got into a right pickle when using the paddles to pull away on a roundabout I found I lost the change up paddle and so the revs went sky high in 1st as no change up. I was told to use manual gear lever mode in these situations and don't try to use the paddles. I agree for changing gear on average bends paddles are fine. But say you are on a hairpin then what do you use then?
Do you guys find S -tronic suits the car better than manual v's and say an S3?

Drive select in Comfort with the Dynamic pack is noticeably softer than when in Dynamic. Its a really obvious change in the car, well worth it in my opinion.

The hesitancy isnt really while pulling from junctions, its just easy to break traction just enough for the ESP to kick in when booting it, if you turn ESP to sport by pressing once this disappears. Press and hold to turn it off completely.

20000km on it, 4 months.

nice car but worst brakes ever, lots of vibrations when hard braking

waiting for audi warranty solution.

stronic is not as well integrated as in the S3, in the RS3 it is less responsive.

regards

Thanks, so how do you use the S-tronic manual mode when pulling away and turning the wheel?

Is yours the latest (367) model as I thought the S-tronic has been improved?

alcuin is right.

the RS3 8V Stronic is less responsive than the S3 8V Stronic.

I have the S3 and RS3 and can confirm it.

I prefer the 7th gear of the RS3 but the 6th gear S3 Stronic is smoother, faster.

As I've said elsewhere, I think that come sale time, you'll regret not having the dynamic pack. I think you'll lose more than the £1,500 it cost. Everyone wants it (well, almost everyone :) ), and you might struggle to move a car that doesn't have it.

lol

I use the paddles, never had an issue with not being able to even when leaving a 90 degree junction in a hurry.

Maybe the RSQ3 has a slower steering rack as I ran out of hands on a 90 deg turn and lost the upchange paddle.

I was told that too, also about Tech, C&S, RS design packs too, but that was by an Audi salesman!

The difference with the magnetic ride in comfort and dynamic is black and white for me. Massive difference. In comfort you could be driving an A3 sport and not know the difference. Once dynamic selected as expected, firms up and let's you feel the road. Must have in my opinion. And that exhaust.....

Thanks, whats your experience of the 7 spd Stronic? I saw a german road test and they were critical of the light steering, understeer and body roll in dynamic. He reckoned the S3 is a better car to drive.

Honestly, I don't know where these guys get this from. All I know is that the car is phenomenal. There is too many nit picky criticisms about the RS. The S3 is a nice car to drive, but the RS is a different beast. Trust me and every other RS owner on here, you will not be disappointed. Trust me.
P.s If you are able to get a car with Dynamic pack, buy it. The suspension is worth it alone and the exhaust is sensational.

You see all sorts of press bashing the RS3. I don't take any notice of it.

Give me the RS3 over the S3 any day. It's a no brainer.

Simple really - those that have the RS3 are very happy with it. And those with the S3 want one, hence the bashing of the model.

Thanks, I've got a TT Mk3 right now and nothing wrong apart from lacklustre engine its just I've got the chance to get into an RS (Yes, it has Dynamic (WBO ) option), my local has one in stock.

You are speaking rubbish.
I have an S3 and really like it.
The RS3 is an epic car and I would easily have one over an S3.....who wouldnt.

The issue is the cost. Nobody denies the RS3 is the better car, but it should be!
Taking discounts into consideration, like for like, a new RS3 is over £12k more than an S3 to buy.

Thats where the issue is. - its not about which cars better....its about IS the RS3 worth £12k plus on top of the cost of an S3....and thats the question that some people disagree on.

I ordered an RS3 (see the one that got away thread) but after a few days thinking about it, I decided that as good as the RS3 is, it did not warrant me handing over my car plus £16000...I think its a fantastic car, but also think my S3 is pretty ****** good as well.......

I'm not speaking rubbish. S3 owners generally bash the RS3 on this forum.

And £12k seems like a reasonable amount to pay, given the difference in model specification, power, looks etc.

I'm not bashing the S3. It's just not for me. I just find it funny how some of the S3 owners like to find faults on the RS3.

I'd love an R8 but I wouldn't go onto that forum pointing out this, and that, as I'm really happy with my RS3.

And that's my point...

I think the main reason the Press don't feel the love for the RS3 is they get so hung up on the price, we have to consider that its a small amount of journalists that test the cars often back to back with admittedly cheaper competition but in reality how many people actually pay the additional £12K quoted in this thread ? The majority are on PCP with superior residuals due to a higher GFV so often the monthly payments don't reflect the massive price differential.

Perhaps journalists should be asking " Is this car really worth an extra £100 per month ...?!?

For me, also 3 months into ownership - although sadly selling, the answer is a resounding YES !!

The cars abilities are apparent in a short test drive but the depth of these talents unravels the more you use it, fantastic noise, amazing performance, superb quality - wrap these things up together and use daily and this equals phenomenal value for money.

Live with an RS3 for more than a weekend and you will be smitten, fact.

The other issue I have with the reviews is the inaccuracies I come across, you also have to wonder how many journalists bother to set the car up in 'individual mode' to their particular tastes as the car can be so very different depending on what you select.

The most important thing is that the OP bothered to share his positive experience with us all and that the vast majority of us that have actually bought the car seem more than satisfied ;)

I was in a similar situation plenty years ago when I had a B5 S4 and considered the upgrade to an B5 RS4. Whilst the RS4 was much quicker (more so than 8V S3 -> RS3 I suspect), it didn't seem worth the extra cost because I already had the S4 and most of the interior and the rest of the car was so similar (even the engine was mostly the same, no extra cylinder upgrade!). If I didn't already have the S4, the RS4 would have made more sense. So in the end I got a C5 RS6 instead!

Indeed. The purchase price minus the sale price is the true cost and if the sale price is say £10k more than the equivalent S3, then you've only really paid £2k for the difference.

Up until last week Kugaman I couldn't understand why you didn't change even for that price. However last Wednesday I had a nice 3 door S3 on loan, from 9 to 6 and covered 225 miles.

I were feeling disappointed they said not to the RS, but offered the S3 instead for a loan (already had the RS on loan previously). To start with, I found it quite underwhelming doing a ton plus on the dual carriageway, with minimal noise in comparison. It wasn't until a good 3/4 hours later I realised just HOW GOOD they can sound!! As soon as you tune into the noise and learn the car, getting her to make all the right noises it is undoubtably an awesome bit of kit. It will never be an RS, obviously.. but the power, crackle on gear-ups and overall fun was an awesome surprise for me.

I found it so much fun to drive, whether it is because the S3 is more nimble or whether it was because it were my second day in a 'fast car' so to speak, but I really pushed on and got it thrown into some bends and had my girlfriend laughing all the way. Then I found an underpass, boy that makes it sounds cool ;-)

It all depends on what you want, if you really want that RS badge and that noise.. that is what you're paying your extra money for. But if you are happy to leave the stand-out car behind then the S3 is perfect, oodles of power and a load of fun... Half way through I were driving around thinking of you and your posts, understanding why you found it so difficult to let go.

I got a lot of glancing looks, I think that is because the car was bright orange. I got the odd person give me a nod and a smile, knowing what it was but not like in the RS where everyone looks to see what all the drama is and with the many comments "Nice car" and people telling their friends "that is a fast car". All down to what the individual wants.........

This conversation is going in the right direction finally, it's nice to see.

The simple fact is, if you take the money out of the equation, there is one clear winner for a petrol head.

However, realistically you can't take the money out of the equation. It's probably one of the most important things when buying a car and on that basis I can see why someone would go with the S3 over the RS3. For me personally, it's worth the extra, each to their own.

Im glad you get where Im coming from! As I say repeatedly, the RS3 is an epic car and anyone on here would be proud to own one.....compared to its rivals, in day to day use its a much better all rounder.

However, when compared to the S3, its not so far ahead - the S3 is a really good car.

Im not talking about on track, Im talking driving around UK roads where speed limits, volume of traffic, potholes, lack of overtaking opportunities, etc, are all factors.

In these situations, I find the S3 superb. Its got a perfect balance between power/economy/insurance cost.
Its sure footed, very easy to drive, well built and comfortable.

The RS3 gives a bit more power and epic soundtrack, but this comes at the expense of insurance cost, mpg, service cost and ved cost. Yes, I agree that it wouldnt be a factor to get 5mpg less, pay £60 more Ved p.a, £100 more for a service and £100 more for annual insurance. It would be worth every ****** penny!

The sticking point for me was the £16k plus my S3......I just dont see it is £16k more of a car........At the time that the deal was agreed I could have had a new S3 for mine plus £5k......now that seemed like a better deal....but why buy the exact same car again after only a year and 4000 miles......

So thats where I am now......driving a 13 month old S3 with 5000 miles on the clock......and it still manages to put a smile on my face regularly.

Maybe an RS3 will grace my garage one day, once the market settles down.....never say never ;)

Nice to hear from you mate & glad you are loving the car.

Me too - absolutely love & 3 months on no sign of the honeymoon period ending :)

Truly epic and such an enjoyable & special feeling car to own - every single drive makes you smile ... Best car I've ever owned too :sunglasses:

S3 v RS3 ... it's the whole package Guys which separates the RS - the slightly more aggressive looks & stance, the slightly enhanced ultra high quality interior, the slightly enhanced performance, those ****ing awesome oval exhausts ... But most of all ... The AMAZING sound these cars make - that engine when it hits 3,500 rpm OMG that is worth the extra £'s alone - it truly is !!!!!!
