Good evening everyone,
I'm facing an inconvenience in my S3 that I'd like your opinion on how to solve. I'm a tall-ish person, 200cm (6 foot 6 inches) and I've gotten tired of my right knee rubbing the console permanently when I drive. I fear for the center console's safety, as when I take fast left handed turns I can't help using said knee to stabilize myself in the car.
As far as I see it, there are 3 ways to deal with this.
A: Sell the car.
Not gonna happen.
B: Take apart seat and inspect the seat rails. Can I unbolt them, move them backwards, and re-bolt them? Or will I have to cut them out of the floorpan? I have about 10cm of space left behind me with the stock seat, and I think 10cm will be enough for me to fit comfortably.
C: Replace the seats. I'm in love with the TT 225 Quattro Sport seats, but I've looked around here and couldn't find any. Then I looked online and saw how few they made in the first place, so I doubt I'll find em. I found plenty of MK5/MK6 GTI seats (which do hold me better and are much lighter as they are non-electric and non-heated). Found those in that funky plaid as well as black leather. My interior is black leather so I think it'd be fine.
Otherwise, I have the option of buying a proper bucket, but I honestly don't want to fork out that much money for them. A nice bucket seat is $800 per unit and above; that's before shipping them to Lebanon. Locally, the only bucket seats I could find that were not replicas were the hardcore racing buckets, the type that require harnesses and have very little cushioning. There are plenty of replica buckets for ~$200 per seat, but I fear for my safety using those (mostly Sparco Evo2/3 reps and Recaros).
Is there any bolt-in seat anyone could recommend, or a guide on how to fit seats from a newer/different VAG product?
If it makes a difference, I'm so tall no one sits behind me anyway.. It is an option to get seats that do not fold over. I don't mind removing the back seats to save a bit on weight anyhow.
