Hello all,

Normal Friday afternoon sat in the office with the emails cleared down, and just started thinking about the next motor (probably not for another 18 months or so!).

Had a google on the new 2017 A6.......

And wondered if I would go a6 again?

To be honest (even as a directional sketch by a motoring mag) I think it looks good, but there is a lot of other great cars on the horizon, so wanted to gather thoughts......

So big question is - would you go a6 again, and if so why, if not what would you go for new / used next time round?

Yeah, I must say the new q5 intrigues me, and the sq5 may another to add to the list, but jeez I'll be expensive no doubt.... (Although probably not that far away from f pace me thinks)

I have to stop you right there! lol F-Pace is an ugly car, SQ5 would be my choice personally.

I have to say I was not keen on the A7 in the first place, but after a blast in an RS7, and the S-Line version looking like a jnr version, I'm hooked! A7 BiTdi looks amazing! They just look quick parked up in my opinion.

My A6 Avant is certainly staying with me unless I sell my business. If I get 10 years out of it, I will be happy! :)

I'm a serial changer - normally every 18 months to 2 years. In fact I'm usually thinking about the next car within a few months (and that sodding autotrader app is a killer when you are bored sitting on a train). IF I'd have got the A6 avant bitdi, with my spec I'd not even be considering it, as it would have the space I need.

Actually..... Now that I've said that........ *opens autotrader app* lol

I'd still love an RS4, so that might be a sensible progression. If you can call the RS4 sensible :racer:

There's actually not that much on the market at the moment that i would really like. The new Civic Type R is funky looking, tried the new Impreza STi recently and it was a total let down... only other thing would be a Discovery 4 to combine the current fleet of Defender 110 and A6 Avant into one vehicle

@gordie1973 great post and some great responses above. Made me smile as I thought, "phew others are thinking the same thing!". I'm on my 3rd A6 in 3 years (have May 2016 at the moment). I love the car, have two kids - thus comment above about boot space is spot on for me - but have started to wonder what next. It's a bit of a binary one for me... I had a test drive in an RS7 and it was unbelievable... I've always been more into gadgets than raw power... but wow! The noise and grunt was unbelievable. Then on the other hand... I've looked at electric... I know I know... how can I be sooo impressed with the sound of an RS7 then be interested in electric... I've test driven a Tesla P85D (sssh don't tell my Audi dealer!) and it was really very impressive and the software is eons ahead of the current audis... I still get infuriated that it is SO damn hard to update the Audi MMI or add things onto the car. A tough call for the next car... will there be an A6 eTron...?

Good point on the Tesla, but I live in London, and as such have no driveway / garage available to hook the car up (to be honest I'm lucky to be able to park in the same street these days!) so that put paid to my all electric dreams.....

Doubt the other half would be happy with a house move to satisfy my car needs!

Slightly left field, but I've always wanted a Range Rover in my life at some stage, but the present model is way out of my budget unless I go for intergalactic miles or a cat D! But who knows - 18/24 months down the line it may be an option.....

Having looked on like there seems to be plans in 2018 for an A6 etron. I did dabble with hybrids (535i active hybrid and a Lexus RX 400h) as they seemed to be a good compromise, but the BMW (whilst being the best drivers car I had ever owned) was a joke with the boot space (VW golf was bigger!) and I could never get on / used to the CVT gearbox on the Lexus.

A7 shape doesn't float my boat, and the RS4 is due a replacement soon.

S4 avant may be a goer, but discounts will be next to nothing in the short term, and hard to justify when the 340i touring can be bought NEW for less than £30k through broad-speed!!!

Never been a fan of Mercedes, and the GLA / M class leave me a bit cold.....

But to be honest it's a nice problem to be having I suppose!!!

Yeah A6 eTron was going to be inevitable, but I hadn't realised it might be out so 'soon' - will it be the same archaic IT infrastructure used by Audi (and to be fair from what I can gather, the same as most other manufacturers...) though? When will they make the jump to, erm...mid-noughties IT infrastructure!!
#CVT, my last A6 was the CVT or "multitronic" and I couldn't get used to that either... worst was the near 2 minute (ok 2-3 second!) wait for it to find reverse... and if parked on a slope, I came a little too close to too many walls!

I am with you on the A7 shape... for me it's the "ar$e" - it just looks wrong!! :) Front's ok, though the lights look a little dated by modern standards.

Your penchant for a Range Rover... hhhm..... I generally dislike the whole look and concept of 4x4s as they are typically just road hogging and badly driven Chelsea tractors... (Sorry Q7/Q5 owners, just a personal and probably rare view!) - but the Range Rover is my exception, the new one is a thing of beauty and sublime to be driven in (haven't had the chance to drive myself, but fabulous ride). Scary scary depreciation and worrying faults though from my mates/acquaintances that have them - I don't have the country estate (or funds!) to justify :)
Anyway back on topic to Audi before we get reprimanded, but was an interesting thread about the thoughts of a few current A6 owners @gordie1973 ! Would make interesting reading for Audi marketing bods...
