Hi,

I am new here.

I have 2l S Line 2014 A3.

My AC light won't stay on as soon as I take my finger off the AC button the light goes off.

Now I have read quite a few posts about the possibility this is down to a hole in the condenser. I have inspected my condenser and I seem to have found a hole.... (please see pictures).

Is this likely the reason my AC won't go on? and how much does it cost to fix?

Any help grateful.... Ive only owned the ****** car a week.

(A) isn't it still in warranty?
(B) if you only bought it last week, whoever sold it to you (dealer or private) is responsible as it was sold with a fault.

Private seller has no obligation to fix / pay for the fix though surely?

I'll tell you now that it won't be cheap. I holed the condenser on my previous Civic Type-R and that cost well over £600 to diagnose and repair. First they refill the system with a refrigerant containing a UV marker and then look at the condenser with a UV light to confirm where the leak is. If it's in the condenser they obviously have to replace that and then refill with a second load of refrigerant. I think I've seen figures of about £800 bandied about for the same repair on an A3.

I think that the seller is obliged to notify of any defects that they know about. I would say they are liable. However, of course, proving that the fault was there and getting the money out of them would be a different matter.

Perhaps it needs to be established what the fault actually is before taking it up with the seller...

Are you sure that is a hole, it just looks like the cooling fins have been dented slightly.

I am new to Audis but I know in the Golf with manual Air Con, the fan has to be switched on as well or else the AC will not switch on.

Mine had crack in condenser housing which can be seen through the front grill. Pics attached
