Recently bought a 2012 Black edition A4. Always liked these cars and after months of looking, one finally come up with near the spec I was wanting, and in great condition for its age and mileage of 23,000miles.

Picked it up on Saturday after waiting for a week to sort some minor things out I spotted and the paperwork.

Here it is the day I bought it.

2.0 Diesel 177PS. Quattro, Black editon spec.

Got it back home and gave it its first decent clean, shame the rain come first.

Had a bit time to do a few tweaks with VCDS to see what i can turn on. Only thing was I couldnt find the hidden MMI menu as both the 07 module and 5F modules were none responsive, so I guess I cant do it unless someone else knows how to get into the MMI on the Audi concert with all buttons on the dash.

  • Enabled the battery warning meter
  • Enabled the Alarm lock/unlock beep
  • Increased DRL lighting from 26 to 75 (not sure what this does but guess its the dipping level with indicators)
  • Turned on remote windows from the keyfob through the MMI
  • Enabled the reverse mirror tilt (such a handy feature)
  • Enabled the Lap Timer. Cool, so hopefully that will allow me to keep a look on the oil temps.

Not too sure what the DIS with efficiency program is though. Mine has Start/Stop but not sure what it does,
Not sure what the Audi Drive Select is, seems to do something with the steering stiffness, but ive left that for now

Unfortunately I've only got the basic ABS pump (1AS instead of 1AT) so I cant enable the hill hold feature

Also, made the first change to it. Removed the tow bar off the back. Got nothing to tow yet so looks a lot cleaner than with the bar, and for the sake of 2 bolts...its not hard to put back on if ever needed.

Also sorted my exhaust as noticed the hanger had come away from its rubber, so now it sits central at least.

Next steps is get the car fully detailed and protected, clean all the shuts down and get some ceramic coating on it for the ultimate protection, get the wheels sealed too since they just been re-done.

More to follow when I get round to having a better nosey about :D

First changes done today.

Noticed the fog lights were a different colour to the DRL's, which instantly bugged me and a bit OCD kicked in....so got onto Trups and ordered his fog light bulbs with a interior LED kit and the LED reverse lights. paid around 2pm yesterday and landed on my door this morning. huge credit and thanks to him there.

Few pics, very sunny, but you can tell the difference.

Also after a couple washes, Ive noticed a load of tiny tar spots along the edge of the doors and the lower wings etc, so decided to top up my detailing gear with some nice new Gyeon bathe+ shampoo. Gyeon Wet Coat and some nice new buckets. Ordered some KKD Tar-Tastic aswell.

Hopefully will get a bit cleaning done at the weekend, decontaminated, clayed and hopefully sealed, before I commission my mate to machine polish it and seal it in SC15 Ceramic Coating.

I did the change same after the yellow fogs being a bit icky looking. But I read on here this week they are actually yellow as it cuts through the fog better than blue/white light.. woops, oh well.
Lovely looking car :)

Nice progress so far Chris.

Thanks both of you.

Yeah, the yellow cuts through the fog better, but how often do we really have fog that bad the fog lights will be of great use? Rather have the nice white to match the DRLs.

Checked out the LEDs tonight after work and as Trups said, almost perfect match for the DRL's in the lights, certainly no complaints from me. The interior LEDs are a nice crisp white which makes the interior look more clean and modern than the usual bulb. Well worth the money.

Reset the trip MPG counter a couple days ago and currently sitting on 44.1mpg after about 80miles. Thats driving like miss daisy. Cant see it going up from that as on cruise sitting about 30 or 50mpg its instant consumption is about 45mpg when its very lightly accelerating to keep the speed.

Noticed that the cruise will also brake for you if the car speeds up too much or you slow it down via the cruise stalk, and it also lets you change gear without the cruise going off when you press the clutch. Pretty nifty.

Out of interest....what MPG are people seeing from the 177PS engine?

Busy 5 hours for me today giving it a good deep clean.

Started off with putting some bucket seats in mates track Clio sport, got home about 4pm and cracked on with mine.

Washed to begin with then gave the whole car a mist of Gyeon iron to remove any industrial fall-out. As you can see, it soon got to work turning my car purple.

Jet washed this off and went around with some KKD tar-tastic to remove any tar spots left on the car. No pictures of this as not much to show.

Then gave the car another jet wash off and a quick shampoo before getting my clay bar out and going over the whole car to make sure the paint was perfect and any spots removed and ended up like glass.

Then another jet wash and bath in some bathe+ to clear any residue off clay barring the paintwork. This was now in a perfect natural state and no protection or anything on it.

Quickly running out of time I gave to car a squirt over with some gyeon wet coat which makes the paint bead like mad and offers a tiny bit of protection.

Hopefully get the rest finished tomorrow with some seal on the paint for now, seal the wheels up and clean and protect the glass with some Q2 View which will repel the rain when driving along.

Here's how I left it.

Bit more cleaning today. Sealed the paintwork with some Auto Finesse Power Seal. Now its super smooth with a bit of shine to it. Never polished it as getting done properly in due time.

She looks stunning

Cheers aswell.

By far from perfect as still many small imperfections in the paint which will only be cured with a machine polish, but thats a job for the future and when can get the car indoors and under some spot lights to see. Whilst not getting blinded by the sun reflecting off the white paint.

Had a look today to see if I could see the dipstick tube. Looks like this is it..

Does anyone know the part number for the dipstick as my etka isn't working at the minute

On other news, fuel economy isn't too bad. 200miles off just over 1/4 tank

Are you using 3rd gear and above? With that fuel mpg

Sent from my Note 4 using tapatalk

Hardly use anything below 4th tbh. It cruises nicely in any gear above there above 30mph.

Good mpg that Chris

Mines pretty close to that but I'm still in the "how good is this compared to bmw" mode which results in foot down = less mpg.

Mine does the same, tells you to change up very early, which at first was a bit strange I thought but it is right it still pulls.

Sent from my Note 4 using tapatalk

Yeah, normally go with the indicator unless its a hill approaching or the need to slow down or the road changes ahead which would mean I need a different gear.

I noticed the MPG gets a hammering soon as you put your foot down.

Have noticed that if you end up going too slow on cruise control in the wrong gear, and try to increase the cruise speed, it doesnt work unless you manually change gear or put your foot down.

Also got the calipers painted today in satin black and tidyed the rear discs up with a bit of silver.

Yeah but iirc the cruise control doesn't go off if you change gear.

Tidy brakes ftw.

Sent from my Note 4 using tapatalk

Yeah, the cruise stays on with gear change which is pretty cool

Half tempted with some 5 or 10mm spacers for it, but not sure how it would sit with a standard height suspension. Got some cheapy 5mm halfords ones in the garage I could test on the rear.

Just realised there is 2 modes to the traction control too.

Initial press is Sport setup and if you hold it down it eventually clicks to off.

Remembered I had a Porsche coolant cap on the garage with didn't fit the coolant bottle in the track golf, so seen if it would fit the Audi..

Looks good mate but it's upside down

Sent from my Note 4 using tapatalk

Fixed.

Im not too sure about it. Might look a bit too much for the coolant bottle.

I tried the oil cap, but the standard one has a bit to space it down a touch and sits deeper so the Porsche one didnt fit. :(

Different I personally like it.

Sent from my Note 4 using tapatalk

Yeah, different. Will have to get the bay cleaned down and a better pic.

Might actually need to fill it up tomorrow, depending if the light comes on, got about 65miles to empty which is enough for work. Which will be 550miles out of the tank. £58 to fill at 107.9. (53Litres / 11.65gallons) so that works out at about 47.2MPG across the tank according to my maths which isnt bad at all!

Going up.

Think got about 45.2mpg off the last tank of juice. 530mines off 53L which isnt too bad at all!

You pushing it up bank and driving it back down?

Getting about 40-48ish with mine. But need to stop being so heavy footed but can't help it at the mo, enjoying it too much. Obviously stick to the speed limits at all times

Sent from my Note 4 using tapatalk

Of course, always within the limits.

Is yours the 175bhp one??

All the stuff I seen was saying the 175bhp one had terrible MPG...and even worse on quattro.

No mate mines 150. Only one I found nearby was yours, and as you said Chris I'd read also 177 and Quattro's were a bit thirsty. Glad yours is proving that wrong.

Mine feels miles different than my bmw e90 which was same size engine and bhp. More than happy with it. Loving it.

Always thought they were the 140 and 175bhp ones. Seen a couple of newer 150 ones so must be one like yours.

Do like mine, only thing is probably sharpen the initial throttle responce up from around 1000-1200rpm. Seems to take a few seconds to pick up. but when you just cruising along with no worries, its not a concern.

Ordered some more cleaning stuff the other day.

Picked up some:

Fresh fine clay
A second Auto Finesse drying towel (for the smaller streaks when main towel is too wet)
1ltr Gyeon Bathe+
Auto Finesse quick detailer
Auto Finesse interior detailer
Auto Finesse Hide conditioner for the leater
Auto Finesse air fresheners (strawberry laces) which smell epic.

Anyhow, As its the weekend...mandatory wash again.

Also, mate who does detailing says should SC15 my scuttle panel to stop it from going dull and the black not looking black anymore.

Started off with cleaning it with some All Purpose Cleaner called Daisy.

Then got the SC15 out and began to coat it.

50-50 shot.
