Now that's impressive.
Couple of quotations

What's it like in real world diving on the road below 2.5k rpm.
Mine starts coming alive at 2k and i'm seriously tempted to invest in something like this.

Surely the injectors are on there limit?

How's the box coping with that sledgehammer of torque .

The actuator compatibility with my bv50 is what has stopped anyone else trying different turbos, do you think is possible

Its my daily driver - if i really want to move off the lights quickly then i use s mode. Having this unit on a smaller cc engine would been track or weekend car imo, but 3.0 copes ok.

Injectors were at their limit from the point you have to raise railpressure.

Gearbox is still holding up thankfully, I don't know anyone who has made it slip with torque.

BV actuator is not the problem.
A decent hybrid could make the difference you are looking for. You have a weaker gearbox remember.

Very nice Bobby, At the end of the day it's a 3.0 litre diesel estate and you are putting it up against a 5.0 supercharged V8 coupe that is probably 150Kg lighter. Not really in the same ballpark. Great results, WMI will get you over 450bhp as there looks to be air still to burn looking at whats coming out the exhaust.

Yep a lot of factors play a part.
The turbo is actually running very close to max safe speed so turbo doesn't have any more air to offer. For 450hp 2300bar rail pressure will do it but in the future i will try a different wheel.

On a daily I prefer just diesel no drugs :)

If you run any more power you will need to strap down the car a little better. You can see when the turbo spools the car looks to move forward quite a bit and is doing its best to get off the dyno. What lambda are you running at the top end then and are the EGT's still an issue ?
 
Yes we had to strap the car down twice.
Egt's in 4th WOT are under 900 now, lambda runs around 1 now.

Makes me wonder how some of these people claim 400hp running a cp4 with just additional inline pump.
 
Fancinating read my friend! Impressive results too. I am thinking of the hybrid route maybe in the future :)
 
How much torque did it make? And does your car have the 7speed s-tronic? Thanks!

Joe - mine is a TIP its been mentioned in the build thread - torque is also on the dyno print out (translates approx to 900nm)

900nm...blimey! Sorry if im asking questions previously answered. Are the tiptronics stronger than the s-tronics?
 
That's impressive, I had a 335d as a stop gap car at 350hp and that was fast, I bet this is mental and very grippy cause of the 4wd.

I have a 901.5hp c6 rs6 with an upgraded box, if you ever needed the box upgraded let me know and il let you know the place in Europe that did it.

Bobby, regarding the 4 bar sensor. Is this necessary for better air flow when running the larger turbo? Will i need one if/when i get a hybrid fitted? Thanks!
 
The 4 bar sensor doesn't give better airflow. With the standard 3 bar sensor you are limited to 2 bar boost on the turbo, going to a 4 bar sensor gives you the ability to measure boost upto 3 bar. However it's borderline with a hybrid whether you need a 4 bar sensor or not. Kind of depends how much torque you want to make in the midrange. If you have a manual gearbox you don't want to get too carried away so the time where you ask the turbo to deliver more than 2 bar you don't really need it.
There appears to be a digital Boost gauge on this video, with over 400 bhp and 800Nm only boosting to 2.15- 2.2 bar

Rick seems to think I won't need a 4 bar sensor with my hybrid, We will hopefully soon find out.

Thanks for that Karl. I didnt want to be missing any components out. I'll be watching your thread with interest in the near future with regards to how you get on. Ive messaged tdi turbos and several other companies about a hybrid. Heard any reviews on the xman turbos?

To be honest unless you try things yourself you never know what is stronger. Thats the risk with new development.

I'm working on a e90 335d at the moment they do go well and seem to take 2.3bar and clean lambda with 720nm.
There is an upgrade path for the TIP to handle 1k nm if required, but not cheap.

Karl even at top end you may well need more air to get a clean burn. I would fit a 4bar to hybrid 2260 to allow more scope and have smoke free power (egt dependant).

Target goal and if you already have an upgraded hpfp.
CAPA engines a old pump cp1 but have plenty fuel for 2260 hybrid. If you have a newer engine then fit a better pump before looking at turbos.

Mine was around the 5k euro mark to have done and that's on a good working order box, if the box needs any repair work they charge accordingly but you are without the box for a while. it shifts like a dsg now with the software.

April 2016 - Exhaust tips
I had the exhaust tips made so the bore goes over the stock back box pipe around 50mm. The tips are around 100mm so they fill the hole nicely.

Here are some video's:
Note this run was done with a 2.8k take off and this results in 4.5secs to 60 with a 3k take off I have seen
4.1 secs so I feel this time can be improved upon.
Also, the run was done with full weight, half tank of fuel so around 1.8 tons I would say.

I was looking at the Facebook page for the event and a lot of people were saying the track was quite slick with not much grip. Mind you they mostly seem to be FWD cars.
What kind of 60ft times were you running ?.

Class G which is 1.8L and above stock was Benjamin Parsons, Worthing - Blue 2006 Audi RS4 - 13.15/104mph
Think the car definitely qualifies for some silver door mirror caps :) .
The easiest place to make time is at the start so if you can launch faster and on a track with better grip you will go quicker.
Noticed you were logging the car as well with the lap top on the passenger seat :) , They spotted me doing that once and had a moan. Honest officer it's not really a distraction.
I can see your reaction times aren't going to be very good with that brake boosting but you should never get a false start.

Thanks Karl - yes I'm really pleased. As you know this is un-test ground so you never really know if you'll be driving back or getting rescued :)

I would have loved to go against a B8 RS4 just to compare times, but I didn't see any B8's run.

Logging data has been great help and I've plotted the data and know that if I stayed in 4th a little longer I may have got a bit more trap speed. Also, logs show 0 - 100 in 9.85s which is impressive for a tank.
I done two runs on the day:

1) 12.46 @111.27, 0 to 60ft in 1.79
2) 12.40 @ 110.99, 0 to 60ft in 1.81

Those times are right on the money for a B8 RS4 or a mapped S4. Maybe just a tenth in it , As you say the terminal speed is a little slow but what RPM is the box changing up ?. I think you need to hold onto the gears a little longer to get the best out of the engine perfornance. The gearing on a manual gives me 115mph at 4700 RPM in 4th. Yours is the 0B6 gearbox isn't it ? Maybe a gearbox remap to disable auto upshifts in manual

Mine is not a dsg. The TIP software can be updated but i can not find any tool that can read/write this control unit.
I've tried cmd & magpro2 these are both up date tools. Only way i think would be to request a driver from the likes of magpro.

During the runs i used manual mode - shifting at 4.5k.

Car needs a diet next time :)
