Accident Damaged Sportback - Photo Documenting the repairs

Hi, first post on here as a new member... I have just bought an accident damaged 2013 A3 S-Line Sportback - Not sure how much i can repair myself but i'm going to attempt certain jobs to keep garage labour costs down (some jobs will have to be done by the garage as above my skill)

I was also thinking of photo documenting if possible to help out other members if ever needed. Whilst waiting for the car to arrive - I've found googling around there isnt a great deal of info / pictures of things being taken to bits and fixed.

Does anyone think this would be helpful ?

Thanks! Yes i was thinking of doing some before and after shots. I'm awaiting delivery in the next week or two - will post them on this thread and then as the repairs start i will post new thread with type of repair in the title!

Interesting and a little daunting but i love a challenge... Depending on my work commitments the garage may do most of it for me. Thankfully the damaged area stops about an inch before air con pipework and brackets - A Close one!

Yeah it is, yes only drivers side

on the front grill, behind the ring and either side, is it blocked off by a trim, or open like the rest of the grill?
on the S3, its blocked off, i want to know if that trim is removable before i take my bumper off and attempt it.
clearly you're going to have the bumper off, could you look for me ?

Looks like quite an easy repair to be honest.

Front fender, headlight & bumper, replace hood & give it a tweak infront of the suspension turret with a porta power (looks tiny bit out of line there) and maybe replace some headlight loom/plugs and your pretty much done.

Yes, I'm a little surprised this one was written off in the first place to be honest. Can I ask the age and mileage? Any other issues aside from the accident damage?

I have a rough idea but very guestimate at the moment... All depends how much work i do myself or depending on how much time i have might just stump up £ to let garage do most of it!

Pretty much - the wishbone is bent thats why suspension looks out of line - side airbag deployed too but not too expensive to put right

He's sent me more than enough detailed pictures and information to my question.

I am suprised too! He turns 3 this month - only 12k on the clock, it's mint inside & out apart from damage!

Wishbone is bent so needs that sorting and maybe driveshaft on that side - the wheel took most of the hit i think thats what saved it from being a lot worse & possibly new strut. Inner wing / bracket, various plastics inside wing, outer wing, bonnet , front bumper, headlight. Side airbag deployed & seat belt tensioner, which is a lot cheaper than i expected to put right not too pricey at all. The price for new parts from audi + labour + paint, i can easily see why it was written off. Front end paint work / respray alone is around £1000-1500 from audi aproved bodyshop & they will only use brand new audi supplied parts - but buying salavge parts and using a good recommended local specialist vag garage / bodyshop its no where near the price of a dealer repair centre etc. Plus the fact the car only has 12k on the clock, thats a big bonus too

Nice one .....Certainly a cheap way at getting a premium car..Buying a car that is damaged and getting it repaired yourself makes a lot of sense rather than buying one which has already been repaired...At least for your own piece of mind you know the true extent of the damage and the quality of repair...Good luck with the project pal...

EXACTLY - thats why i did it. I would never buy one thats already been repaired - you never know what iffy repairs are lurking etc, at least this way i know exactly the extent of the damage which is pretty light really - no chassis damage or anything just pannel & inner wing!

Introducing my pride and joy! I had hoped to do more updates along the way but I've been a bit caught up with work! I've had the pleasure of putting 1000 miles on him over the last 4-5 weeks and i can honestly say i'm head over heals in love! Photo's are from a recent trip to the lakes!

Nice repair , if the wheel took the hit face on just listen for any gearbox bearing noises that may appear as impact transmits along the driveshaft.
