I am currently looking for an A6 Avant, some on a 59 plate are the Le Mans edition and an 11 plate one that I have just been to see was an S Line Special Edition. I believe that the Le Mans name was dropped and the model just became called the Special Edition, but are there any difference in the spec of the two over the different model years?

The 11 plate one had the usual sat nav MMI, but also had footwell lighting and puddle lights in the bottoms of the doors and in the door mirrors. Are these standard or extras?

No spec differences, they're both technically Le Mans model. Equipment is the same.

From googling the Le Mans/Sp Ed came with rear pdc, interior light package, heated front seats, leather + 19" rs4 style wheels as standard.

Thanks for the swift reply. I have test driven two today and of the two, the older higher mileage one was in better condition.
Might have bought it if the part-ex price they offered for my Passat CC had been higher.

In the boot on some of the Avants on Auto Trader there is a cubby hole on the left hand side. Others that I have looked at have a removable cover which looks like it houses various electronic control units for the MMI.
What is the difference between the two?

If the car has MMI Basic (Red screen) then there may not be any equipment in the boot, if the car has MMI high then the equipment configuration will vary depending on what options are installed, all MMI High cars will have a radio module, but there are two AMP's options(Bose or or standard Audi sound system) DAB & TV tuner could be fitted.

If you want nav, dab or AMI then you must get a car with MMI High (colour screen) as to replace the MMI Basic with High is a big job and will cost a fair amount of money.

I think MMI high is standard on the Le Mans along with nav. All of the ones that I have looked at have it and all of the ones that I have actually been to see have a removable cover on the left hand side with a couple of control units inside. Some of the adverts I have looked at have a recess on the left side, not the removable cover.

If I manage to get one, I would like to add DAB to it as not many seem to have it already fitted.
Will my iPhone 5 connect for calls?
Not too bothered about music streaming as I tend to listen to Planet Rock on DAB mostly anyway or use an SD card.

Ignore my post as I've just noticed you are looking at FL A6's that will be MMI 3G, which also has a basic and High versions however both have colour screen but the basic is smaller and the navigation is DVD/SD card rather than HDD based on the High version.

Both should have a radio module on the left hand side of the boot, however this needs to be replaced with a DAB version + you will need a fakra cable & antenna module.

The 11 plate cars your looking at are they later C7 models, as that would enplane why some have a recess on the left. The C7 model came with RMC MMI where the main MMI control unit has an built AMP & radio so no need for equipment on the left hand side so that will leave a recess.

Thanks B5Nut, I have been reading your upgrades thread and I was wondering how to tell if the cars I was looking at had 3G or 2G MMI.
All of the cars are facelift C6 Le Mans / Special Edition. The C7s are still a bit out of my price range at the moment unless I go for higher mileage than on my CC.

The 3G MMI system will have two SD card slots just below single DVD/CD Player in the glovebox there was never an SD option on the 2G system.

One more question - how easy/expensive is it to add DAB to the MMI?
I have a Kenwood sat nav head unit with DAB in my CC and I would miss it if I had to go back to ordinary FM again.

You would need to replace the radio module with a DAB version and add the antenna, you would also need the fakra cable between the radio & antenna

Thanks, so is the only way to add DAB to use OEM parts, or is there an aftermarket solution that integrates in the same way as the Audi parts?

Kufatec sell an after market DAB module for £500, but you could buy the audi bits for 1/2 that price.

Yes, it's on the left side for the module. You need to by the antenna and solder which goes behind the right hand side C pillar a wire goes from the antenna as soldered onto the glass. Cannot comment on the fistune never used or installed one.

I have a set of winter wheels and tyres that I use on my CC and a spare set of wheels for the summer. I am wondering if they will fit the A6?

Wheels are 8J x 17, ET 41, 112 x 5 PCD and the tyres are 235/45 x 17.
I think the centre bore is 57.1mm, but I could be wrong.

Just bought an 09 A6 S Line Avant 2.7 V6 TDI, hopefully picking it up on Monday.
Seem as though it has all of the Le Mans extras on except the wheels, which I may sort later...

Where is the best place for updated map discs and what sort of price should I expect to pay?
Not checked how old the one in the car is, but I suspect it may be the same age as the car.

17's should fit, mine is an 10 plate 3ltr Quattro with 245 discs up fron and 330 on the rear and the 17's off my old A4 fit over!!

Great thanks, I guess I just need to check the centre bore now then.

I got mine from :

Helpful and informative guy !!
I got a software update CD and 2015 maps on SD card. The update CD converts your system from CD based maps to SD.

My car has 345mm front discs and 330mm rear, 17's didn't clear the caliper.

Thanks, that's really useful. I guess the change to SD maps makes the nav run quicker?

Looks like the only way that I am going to be able to tell with the wheels will be to try them on the car when I get it...

Ok, so I picked the car up last night, really enjoyed the drive back from Chesterfield despite the high wind and closure of the A1!

Discovered on the way back that the rear washer doesn't work. I can here the pump running, but no water is coming out, any suggestions where I should start looking?
Being a facelift, I thought that the problems with pipes separating were cured?
Can't see any signs of screenwash in the left hand boot cubby which is a good sign I think?

Also, I don't seem to have a DVD drive in the boot, there is only one silver box in that cubby. The sat nav has a colour screen, works well and seems to have live updates as it recognised that the A1 was closed and altered my route. So which MMI have I got?

Finally (for now!) where is the looking wheel nut key hidden?
I've looked in the right hand cubby and found the other tools, but can't see the key and there didn't seem to be a space for one either. Am I being dense, or is it somewhere else?

Simon bit of a silly answer but have you got screen wash in the bottle? Could it be a clogged jet?
Ref the DVD drive it should be in the glove box as this is where they are located (at least it is on mine)

The locking key should be in the right hand cubby under the towing eye.

The locking wheel but should be under the towing eye in the chubby on the right in the boot.

Washer jet possibly blocked - take off the cover that hides the wiper arm but, theirs a little nozzle that clips on - these are about £8.
Take it off and see if it squirts out of their
If yes, new nozzle required, if no, take off the back panel and make sure the pipe hasn't come off the motor inside the boot panel itself.

Sounds like 3G MMI, but post up a picture of your area blow the gear selector.

Thanks both.
Found the locking wheel nut key. DVD drive is indeed in the glove box and has 2 SD card slots. I am sure that they other cars I looked at had a DVD drive in the boot cubby, but maybe I imagined it.

I'll check the nozzle, sounds like that will be too easy knowing my luck!

Looks like 3 for 3!
Found the locking wheel nut key.
Found the DVD drive.
Fixed the rear washer - jet was blocked. Unclipped the jet stuck a pin down, cleaned it out and Bob's your uncle.

I am sure it's 3G MMI, but I thought that I might have accidently got a car with the HDD rather than the DVD based nav.

Nice one :)

HDD has a slightly bigger screen 7 inch and 3D building display on the sat nav as well as being able to select other options on the MMi

Very pleased with it.
Looks as though it has/had phone prep under the lid of the arm rest. Don't suppose that's much good with an iPhone though.

Just need to add DAB next, maybe an iPod lead and I'm all sorted
