Hi,

My Insurance renewal is up at the start of Feb and I'm looking to change provider's to someone who is more car enthusiast based and deals specially in modified car's etc especially with me planning on going stage 2+ this year.I obviously want to have everything declared.

So who are people with now and who do people recommend/avoid.

Companies that spring to mind are:

Performance Direct
Chris Knott
Green Light
Adrianflux
Sky?

Thanks
Craig

Greenlight here.

A very decent £600 for all of the stuff on my car, plus good service.

Just been doing a little reading on here, There are 4 sponsored companies on this site which are;

Adrian Flux
Chris Knott
Prestige
Sky

After doing my reading I seemed impress with Prestige and Sky so I will certainly be giving them a ring, Adrian Flux had a lot of negative comments and Chris Knott state a max BHP increase of 100 which if I'm planning on going stage 2+ I'd like to think I'd be more then this.

So for the time being I will try the 2 mentioned above and give Greenlight a shout aswell, Hopefully out of the 3 I will get lucky..?

Mine never seems to state a maximum power....
Maybe they reckon I'll get scared at some point..

Well I can certainly try I guess, The week leading up to my renewal is when I will get down to sorting it out.

I'll be in touch....

Thanks

A Plan in Thatcham are good for specialist car insurance, try them. I have my Westfield insured through them and have since insured the A3 and house insurance with them.

I went Chris Knott on my A3 (Albeit just two mods - map and tints), wiped the floor with everyone, AF were not far of being twice as much both first time around and at at renewal.

Not tried Sky Insurance though Direct Line were surprisingly close to CK as were admiral (as the lowest)

Don't bother using the online tool for AF to quote though, they basically emailed saying we can only do our best price on the phone and didn't even bother to put a price down (making it pointless) then on the one time I did phone just kept asking for my renewal price.. very frustrating.

Have you thought about Brentacre

I'll be ringing up wont be bothering trying to do it online.

No I haven't ^ ....

I went with Adrian Flux, cheaper than all over by over £250! Just mention you are a member of this forum and you get a discount. Had an accident last week where someone went into the back of me, and by 4 days later my car was in a body workshop, while I drive round in a 15 plate S-Line A3!
Always been very helpful and friendly

My renewal is due for beginning of next month (with Sky currently). So far, Sky is winning at £620 - my post code is killing my chances for a decent deal though :(

Was with Greenlight for for a while before that with my old 8L S3, but they won't touch my current post code even with a garage, which is a shame.

No insurance company should be asking you about awareness courses, that's the whole point!
I guess that they can ask any questions related to their risk assessment - not all of them do ask this, so may be worth speaking to other insurers that don't take this into account.

I guess so. When I did speed awareness course years ago the guy leading it told us that the insurance company can't ask and went as far as saying they (the company running the courses) had filed complaints against companies who were asking with the regulator.

Yep, the Admiral group all do it, they are the only ones who do it and have been chastised by the police the aa and most motoring groups for it. They treat it like a speeding fine and they force you to tell them otherwise your put in the position of lying to them.

One (of many) reasons I won't touch them.

Yep, they all do it, I was with Elephant and Admiral for a few years and both requested to know about it. I left this year and went to Adrian Flux. While I was shopping around I spoke to a very helpful guy at compare the market and he confirmed to me that insurance companies should have no reason to know about it and to only supply the details if you are asked. When filling in the forms online, only tell them if they have the code "SAC" in the list to choose from. But stay away from the Admiral group

Bit a scam if you ask me though, You've took the course option to not get the poiunts etc and save getting stung with insurance so why should they then sting you for doing the course aswell. Just seem's a quick easy way of getting extra money for nothing!! Just because you've done a course doesnt instantly mean your a bad high risk driver could of just been unlucky that one time..

I don't entirely agree craig, you've paid (read fine) for the course so you've obviously been caught for speeding but due to guidelines you've been let off for doing so - as you were either under the 14mph thresh-hold or the offence was captured by a community group camera or the local police were running a speeding campaign (read needed some more money) lol

Although from the angle of having only been just over the limit and being offered a course then I do agree as you'd have to look at nothing other than the speedo or use a speed limiter like In the mercedes' in order to make sure you never went over the limit - based on actually trying to drive to the speed limit rather than 40 in a 60!

I cant remember exactly what I got caught at but I'm sure it was 44 in a 40, Not what I would exactly call "speeding"

Worst thing is it was in a customers car with the customer in the passenger seat as we went out on a roadtest to listen for a noise!! :(

You never get caught speeding at anything other than a PITA time!
I'd blame the customer for telling you to go faster haha! - I don't know if you've seen the Petter Solberg video with the E63 estate making a noise under acceleration which is the exhaust lol they were just fault finding :D

Went with Adrian flux this year just over £500 fully declared paying monthly
Admiral also don't cover you like for like on your mods

Yeah, my UB10 postcode is on some sort of insurance risk blacklist and everyone's insurance around here is pretty mental too.

Adrian flux were £100 cheaper than anyone else I got quoted for.
