Regretted Options?

I don't regret any of the options I got with my A3 :)
But I do regret not taking the plunge and going for an S-line instead of the Sport just so I could have got Xenon headlights instead of halogens... :)

DJAlix my sunroof rattle really badly. The car has been in to the garage twice and it is still as bad as ever. You use the same lube as is used on the door seals (I forget the name)? Does this really work as the rattle is driving me nuts. If I cannot fix the rattle the sunroof would definitely be my regret.

Audi took my sunroof glass out and adjusted all they could, then greased it up. Was ok for a little while but the rattles came back. I had the same problems with both my 8P Cabrios and use / used the stuff attached. £44 from Audi or £8ish from eBay. Using this on all seals is part of my wash routine and seems to works.

This can be changed in VCDS to auto activate the fronts when you're about 2-3ft away from an object in front - very useful.

This would be amazingly useful.
Would Audi activate this for me when I take it in for my next service - or is it something that you have to sort yourself ??

Not so much an option, as it comes as standard, but I wish I had paid a bit extra for metallic paint as Brilliant Black marks so easily, despite being extra careful. Heated seats could have saved me a little bit of money as I don't use them but I know the other half does!

No real regret as such but the Interior light pack is well hyped up in my opinion, still for only just over £100 in the scheme of things it's free i guess.

Don't reget anything
maybe the Park assist - total gimmick, used once - don't need it

Don't know why people hate the hill hold, I think its great as there are a few hills near me and it works well
- High beam assist - cant remember what it does lol - anti dazzle I guess
- Roof bars - not used them and never will, just bought them as they finished the car off
- Hill hold is ok
- ACC is a handy where I live with roadworks and cameras on a roads and motorways but is a pain if you driving behind a accelerate hard/brake hard muppet
- Still not sure whether manual would have been better but I'm slowly getting used to the stronic after 18 months!-
- Still haven't used half the MMI functions
- I am glad I got the pan roof - fits the car lines much better and is handy to cool a hot car quickly in the summer

anything I wish I got - hmmm - should have waited for the RS3...nah, maybe the parking camera but I'm not sure id use it either

My regrets are:

- ACC. Combined with S-Tronic it would've been great (I think?)
- Front parking sensors...not just rears. But got used to it now.
- Tech Pack just for the bigger screen
- A metallic paint

Edit: One more -

- Audi Sound System at least. But I have lowered the boot floor a few times...but I would like better sound.

And parting with another £10/12,000?

But saving £6/7000 on depreciation, which means only another £5k* :)

(* with proper man logic maths)

Yeah...I tried this 'man logic' when trying to convince the other half to splash out more on the RS3...pity it didn't quite work

I got £4k worth of options and no regrets; I'd spec them all again.

Some comments:
Rear airbags - Never used once!
Lumbar support - Set and forget, but glad I've got it
ACC - It's great as long as you don't change lanes, so I use it less than I thought I would.
Through load - My son likes it for the arm rest but we've only used the boot access a few times.

None.

I use to want B&O but I'm glad I didn't get it because I would have regretted it for one thing which some of you wouldn't believe.... it lacks the pop-up tweeters Audi shown in the A3 concept and in the A3/S3 catalog where they talk about B&O and showing the pop-tweeters....turns out they used an A7 for this... why put an A7 B&O image in a A3/S3 catalog??

This colour must have been a regretted option
86423c2b3998a09534a342f4c6e7c167.jpg

With exception to those carbon fiber side mirror caps (person should have left that stock).
That color doesn't look bad with those wheels.

In fact, that car would look amazing if it's side mirror caps match the rest of the paint and it's front seat windows were also tinted.

Not sure if that's an S3 or A3, but it would definitely need the S3's chrome grill though and not be blacked out.

I hear you gamegenie ...but I honestly think this colour could lose its appeal very quickly. Maybe nice to look at now and again but not to own day after day

...here's the full video of this S3

Good reading this.
I have ACC and reverse camera on the A4 and would of picked them again on an S3. But reading the above does make me think "do I really need them".
The ACC is OK but you do tend to be hovering over the controls & second guessing what it's going to do. I don't like the way it can brake quite hard to reset the gap once someone pulls into your lane. In this situation I think the car behind will think I'm a muppet and half asleep.
It can brake if you move to the 3rd lane slipping behind a passing vehicle. You end up having a dab on the brakes as it switches the radar from the vehicle in lane 2 to the vehicle in lane 3.
My only reason for specifying it again is the fear that I would pile straight into the car in front with standard cruise forgetting it wasn't going to adjust the speed.

Parking Camera is more about the flashy display then the help with parking. I find I am not sure where to look....mirror, over shoulder or at the dash camera image. It just seems another thing to look/check whilst doing the manoeuvre. The standard front/rear radar image (which I had on my previous two A4's) provides a bigger clearer indication of distance.

What? Not getting it @steeve ;) :D
Nicer than iceberg white IMHO

My regrets?
That Audi don't spec their cars with enough kit. Then when you want some more spec they charge silly money for it eg £325 for red painted calipers *** :(

Just saying ... :whistle2:

Too true. Ford only charge £100 to paint the far superior Brembo's blue.
I was suprised the S4 only comes with sliding caliper single piston calipers too. Very old tech for such a powerful/heavy car.

And as you climb up the Audi model range the same extras cost more, examples rear camera on a TT costs something like £450ish,£295 on a A3, same goes with privacy glass it's more expensive on a TT than on A3

OK so a load of people come here and ask what options they should get when buying a new car, so on that note what options did you get and the thought "I could have done without that" or don't use.

For me: Regrets on the options I have = None

(No need to list what you have, just what you wouldn't get again).

Audi Sound System... pretty pants for something you've paid extra for.

Non smoking option - replace the cigarette lighters with 12v sockets that look... the same as a cigarette lighter. Go figure? It just looks cheap and very out of place for a car with such a good interior as the S3. In my last S3 the 12v socket was enclosed behind a flap...

Think the super sports seats are cheaper on the TT though! £450 if I remember correctly.

Yup correcto Mundo £450 bangers but fully wrapped in leather £1145 bangers but seem more value for money,=full leather than the SS seat's in the S3

Nil. There's a couple of extra options I'd have if buying again, but I get good use out of all those fitted and wouldn't want to be without any of them.

The only one fitted that I'd change is perhaps the SD satnav; I find it perfectly fine once in use, have no issues with the screen resolution and I certainly prefer the integration over a dash-mounted Garmin etc, but it can take a while to initialise when first starting the car and (to my knowledge) the only way it can be updated is by buying a completely new SD at £500ish. I'd most likely have the tech pack to get the included updates and hopefully quicker start up, but I'd sooner have the SD nav over aftermarket any day.
