Evening guys and girls, Just wondered if anybody could answer my question:

Can I swap out the standard Xenon bulbs on my S3 to a pair of higher colour temp bulbs such as 6000k or 8000k bulbs without changing the standard ballasts for a HID kit?

My bulbs look really white in the dark which is obviously better than a yellow tinge you would get from a standard halogen bulb. The thing is there is a lovely A7 up the road from me and every time I see it in the dark with its lights on it gives off a really cool blue light, it looks great!

I'm not interested in getting a HID kit to achieve this look if it's the only way possible. I also realise that the higher colour temp bulb, you lose some light output. I'm only after changing the dipped beam.

6000k max, any higher you'll lose useable light in favour for colour temperature.

Where are you based?

I would go no higher than 5500k this time of year. I can supply advice and bulbs depending on looks/performance, oem branded upgrades of top of the range aftermarket items that won't blow with oem ballast as cheaper generic xenon bulbs will blow with OEM ballasts.

I'd be interested in this mate, I've had a look but can only find cheaper after market bulbs and don't want to risk blowing the ballast with these. I'm looking for a cooler colour temp than the standard xenons.

Hi.

The good aftermarkets I do are the Morimoto bulbs, they use a Philips base so are precise when fitted to a projector so will still perform without throwing the light in the wrong place unlike aftermarket cheaper bulbs.

They are £65 posted to the UK for a pair.
5500k - 3300 lumens
6500k - 3200 lumen

An OEM bulb is around 3200 lumens when new so these would be going to a better colour without loosing any power.

You can then go OEM upgrade which are the osram CBI which are 5500k and give 3500lumens but are very pricey at £160 per set.

Reason I ask the OP where you saw it was I did a upgrade on an A7 with a projector mod and osram CBi's for his A7.

Thanks

OSRAM Cool Blue lntense these bulbs look lovely a white Blue light rated 5500k to 6000k approx Amazon are selling £110 ish for 2
