Hello, i Will tomorrow order the cabriolet and cant decide if i should upgrade to the B&O audio system.
Any thoughts? Ive only tried the B&O system very quickly at a test drive so cant compare the system and during the short test drive i had other things on my mind :)

Thanks!

.....in all seriousness you'll probably need it to hear anything in a cab!! lol

Audi sound system is very good.......................but the B&O is excellent. The sub is absolutely brutal when cranked up and the overall sound quality is about as good as you can get without spending really silly money.

I used to wish I had B&O that is until I realized that B&O is just those illuminated stripes on the driver and passenger door.

I thought B&O would include the pop-up tweeters like it did on the Concept A3.

All this time I was thinking people with 8Vs with B&O were driving around with those cool pop-up tweeters probably getting hella good audio out of them.

But nope! There are no pop-up tweeters for A3. Real Shame-Audi. So I'm sticking with the advice of Brian Cooley of CNET's A3 review. The B&O is a waste.

completely agree with jassy, the audi sound system is good value for money but if your into your music the B&O is a masterpiece (still can't get my head round how loud it goes) also the illuminated strips around the speakers are a nice touch and in my opinion add to making the inside feel that bit more special.

Always on a cab, always!

Lesser system may sound ok during a static demo, but throw in some engine, road and wind noise...... and it will be a different story.

Will be the food for a new thread..... "Possible to retrofit B&O to my new S3 Cab????" :blahblah1:

Absolutely mate, certainly be top of mine..................although I've gotta say I had to turn it down on the way home from hospital visiting me Ma earlier this evening coz the noise coming out of my exhausts was wondrous....................weird but some days it's just that extra bit more awesome??? :)

Was just thinking about this. I recently had an S3 as a loan car for a couple of days while Audi had mine, and it had B&O fitted. I knew this was the case beforehand and so took my memory card with all my music on with me. I was expecting to feel like I had wished I had ordered it for my car, but I have to say, given the comments on here about it, I was pretty underwhelmed by it. It's just not worth the premium over the Audi Sound System in my car, which is just as good for all practical terms. Glad to have been pleasantly disappointed!

I agree with the above, having listened to both systems I am comfortable the Audi system is better value and more than good enough.
If you are completely into music then OK understand that but given you are in a car with other noises both the clarity and volume of the audi system more than satisfies. If I was buying another A/S/RS3 I wouldn't be speccing the B&O nor would pay more for it on a used motor.
Each to their own though.

Having listened to both of them when test driving using my own music the B&O system was so superior it was obvious to all of us (wife and kids). Given it came with our Performance Pack, a no brainer but I would have paid for it separately anyway. Not the best in car system I've heard but good enough to option it

I only ever rely on my own experience when it comes to Internet chatter

Edit - what is hilarious when you actually read the various posts in this threads is most don't have issues. As many issues with the stick Audi system :)

From Audi, Ingolstadt:

"The crackle when playing via Bluetooth, internal hard disk and SD card is known at Audi. It is because the MMI only transcodes the outputs from CD and AMI to 48kHz before it passes the audio stream to the amplifier. And because the amplifier only handles 48kHz properly.... -> Crackle

They also confirmed to me that every Audi A3 regardless of the model year, MMI, or sound system has this problem and only with model year 2017 (when Carplay / Android car is introduced) the problem is resolved. With B&O the crackle is just easier to hear. Audi will not remedy the deficiency in older vehicles, because too few clients complain about the issue, either because their ear does not notice or the service provider also likes to ignore the problem."

It's a known worldwide problem.
There is a TPI/TSB.

Again. Just because "you" haven't heard it, it doesn't follow that it doesn't exist. :D

Mmmm.

The variable factor here, are your (or anyone else) ears. Not the B&O amp (which is pretty much identical from unit to unit) ;)

Not being a real Audiophile I didn't spec the B&O, I went with the *** and I have to say I find it brilliant.

I will admit that I do wish I had the LEDs in the front grills, but c. £500 for those was a little much....

I couldn't live with the inferior audio spectrum and performance of the *** (how appropriate)

I spent $70k on a car, even if I had to pay for the B&O, I'd spec it but agree that budget has an impact for some

Like everything it's subjective and I agree with the comments made by jassy and Simon above.

If you listen to the radio for most of the time and your own music now and then, the Audi Sound System is more than sufficient and very good in my opinion. If you're heavily into your music and having it rather loud (which you may need in the cab) then the B&O is the one to go for.

I have the B&O in my sportback and I think it's superb. I was originally going to go for the *** but changed my mind when it came to crunching the numbers and ordering the car. Luckily the dealership had a few cars in the showroom with the B&O which aided my decision.

What I will say though is that whilst 'out of the box' it's very good, to get the best out of it you need to have a good play about with the settings.
The sub is absolutely brutal when cranked up and the overall sound quality is about as good as you can get without spending really silly money.
The sub (along with the light strips in the front) was one of the things which swayed it for me. Cranking the sub and bass up to the higher end it really is impressive.*

* I would suggest not doing this if you're in a busy showroom as you look like a bit of a yobo otherwise.
