Hi,

This information may already be on here but I'm struggling to find a definitive answer, But basically what I would like to know is - Will the brake hoses on my S3 8P fit any Audi calipers, I.E TTRS, RS6,RS5,R8 etc do will I need different hoses..? Looking at going down the 4 (+) pot caliper route but unsure if I need new hoses....

If so are the hoses available to buy or do you have to get some custom made..?

Thanks
Craig

I believe they are a bit too short and tight for larger calipers. Getting braided hoses is of benefits if going for a BBK too. I'm using HEL braided lines for my TTRS calipers.

I ordered the hel braided lines this week for the ttrs conversion. £40 through eBay from daghosesupplies, and had within 2 days.

Am I right in thinking that if you have TTRS calipers on an S3 you need braided lines for a TTRS?

Also any benefit from upgrading the rear lines at the same time?

Ps sorry to hijack!

I'm still confused though guy's, Do I need to buy TTRS hoses then rather then S3..?

@Rob C - It's fine mate, I need to know the answer to that aswell lol.

Thanks

No there is a ttrs to s3 conversion hose. I can't add the link but go on eBay and type in ttrs s3 hel brake hose.

Found It mate, Cheers.

Are calipers fitted to all high end spec Audi's - I.E RS5,RS6, R8 etc made by Brembo..?

Also what pads are people using/recommend..?

I'm thinking DS2500/3000....

@swatchuk Do you have a part number of the HEL brake hose you brought off eBay?

I was going to get some DS2500's, I assume they come with the wear sensors like the Audi pads do?

You need to adapt the wear sensors if fitting TTRS calipers etc. I'm used Pagid Blue on mine and they are good but quite noisy and dusty but they are lasting well without wearing the discs out.

No part numbers on the packaging or the lines I'm afraid.
I think I'll be putting ds2500's in mine. I've used them on all my cars in the past and not had any problems. I'm planning on doing the occasional track day but it is my daily car, and it won't get pushed to the limit.
Unless anyone has any other pad recommendations?

From the research I have done it appears pad such as the DS2500 don't come with the wear wires in the pads like the oem ones.

So what I think I am going to do is cut the wires from an old set of pads and solder the wires together. This should stop the DIS saying your brake pads are warn. Obviously the downside being you have to manually check your brake pad wear.

You don't want to solder or join the wires together as then it he low pad light will be on all the time. When the pad wears those wires make contact with the metal disc which creates the circuit to tell you the pads are low. I chopped mine off and have taped the wire ends individually so that they do not make a connection.

Oh right, from what I was reading I got the impression it was the other way round, when the wire in the pads is broken the low pad light comes on...

I guess I will find out one way or another. Thanks for the info though!

Just to add to this, if the wear wire doesn't make a completed circuit until the pad wears those wires and makes contact with the metal disc. Surely you should be able to just disconnect the wear wires and not get an error? Which I don't think is the case unless I'm missing something?

I know on previous cars wearing the wire down so a circuit isn't made warns pad level. But yes just unplugging it shouldn't cause an error. I chopped mine of and I can't remember why now as it's been a while...

Yeah cutting the wires off will be best, Sometimes when you get replacement pads (Including genuine one's) They will come with wires on the pad however the vehicle your fitting them to wont be equipped with that function so all we do is cut the wires as far down as possible and It's fine.

I wouldn't unplug the connector because that will let dirt etc in and corrode the contacts on the plug/connection.

I ordered mine from here in the end, really helpful guy.

Right I'm 90% thinking of going down this route but before I do can someone confirm/answer me a few more questions please...

Do TTRS calipers have the carrier mounts built onto them or do you need to buy them aswell..?

Do you need to buy new bolts for the carriers/calipers or can you just use your original one's..?

Do you always need to use spacers or does it depend on whether your wheels will allow..?

If you do need spacers are 5mm one's ok do they need to be bigger..?

Thanks

Usually the ttrs/rs3 calipers come with the carriers. You can buy either ttrs or rs3 calipers but you can only use ttrs discs.
Not sure on the bolts yet as I haven't fitted mine yet but I'd guess you can just use your originals.
It does depend on what wheels your running as to what spacers you need.
Not many 18" wheels fit these calipers.
For now I'm running my Standard facelift 18s but using a 12mm spacer, which is the minimum size for clearance. Also had to move any wheel balancing weights to the inside edge as these will catch the caliper with these wheels.
Hope that helps you a bit

I know about having to use TTRS discs, However I have an either cheaper solution then that :) Watch this space....

I'm running 19" wheels, Do you think these will require any spacers - Genuine AMG wheels....?

Hmm I'll be interested to hear what that is.

Well 19s will certainly help. What offset are they? I'd guess being amg wheels you'll have a good chance of being ok. If not I'm sure a spacer will sort it easily

There ET45, A lot of AMG Mercedes have big brakes as standard so I'm hoping they'll be ok..

The lad I bought the wheels off had a TTRS set-up but not sure if he was using spacers or not....?

Well that's a good indication then ^ Hopefully I should be ok....
