Speed Camera POI

Will do some updated icons at some point. Just been busy with other day to day stuff.

Don't suppose someone who's done this for the Tech pack equipped cars could host the files somewhere which could then be directly copied to a SD card, I'm not very tech savvy....

I'd appreciate a tech pack file if someone can upload?

I have the connect version, so I am afraid I don't know how to do this for the tech pack. Does it come with an SD card slot? Have you tried to use a POI file (as detailed earlier in the thread)?

Yep it has SD card slots. Haven't tried the above as really don't want to pay for a subscription.

I've not been on here for a while, I have recently changed my 8P A3 for an 8V 184PS S Line with Hdd Sat Nav & noticed this thread.

It worked a treat, I followed the instructions taurus detailed at the start & they worked brilliantly.

The only difficulty I found was downloading from myaudi - I didn't have Java installed on my PC, aside of that, I'm happy!

Cheers for making the effort and posting the thread up to start with!

Yes - I have seen that. It was also there in POI data files on my VW from a few years ago. Not tried to see if anything responds to it. The other issue is that once you edit the POI database, then the checksum for the file is invalid, so the MMI will refuse to import it. I have a way around that, but need time to document it and test.

When I was writing my C# Library to generate POI files for my Audi and I was surprised to see that the Checksums are not checked. Some might be but all the ones that I 'broke' didn't result in a rejection. Given that the Checksums where trivial to calculate I've done them but it seems they are not required.

If your interested, I've checked my code into GitHub (https://github.com/mcaddy/audipoi) I use it to create POI DBs and the associated Meta data without the need to use the Audi website, currently using this to build a POI file with 8 distinct types, all loaded from a single GPX file.

I can see the files you have uploaded, is there one specific file I can UL onto my car to add the camera POI? I have the Tech Pack if that makes any difference?

Thanks

The files that @mcaddy has uploaded are the source files for a computer application that can be used to generate the required POI files for your cars MMI. If you aren't familiar with how to run an application like this from source then it's a better bet to just use the Audi website to generate them for you.

Ok, I've subscribed, downloaded the files and put them through the Audi website and onto my SD card as instructed but doesn't seem to be working? Help please!

I had the same. Make sure you've copied across to your SD card the folder and text file as per post #28

It's downloading as... 'downloader-numbers.jnlp'

There is no list of package contents etc as mentioned above!!

That suggests to me you've got an issue with the Audi website, if it's working the 'downloader-numbers.jnlp' file should load a program and not be a file on your computer, I had this problem to begin with, I seem to recall it's something to do with the Java not being correctly installed.

@Wondering-soul is right, currently my code requires some programming knowledge to make it work. It was also built for a different purpose, I've started work on a program that will download the latest Camera updates and prepare the card all in one step.

I might have a version that works in the next couple of weeks, will keep this thread updated with progress

@MatthewA94 as mcaddy has suggested above, the file you are talking about is the downloader application, when opened, this file will launch another application that begins downloading the required files for your SD card. Please visit https://www.java.com/verify to check whether you have the current version of Java installed on your computer, if so, please try and launch that application by clicking on the file itself. It will then begin to download the required files to your computer, when it completes it needs to be moved onto your SD card. Please see this post for details of how these files need to be copied to your SD card.

@mcaddy i would be interested in seeing what you come up with in the end if you wouldn't mind! :)

I've started to put the app together, I've mocked up the GUI, I think I've got all the relevant options covered, can anyone think of anything I've missed?

Looks good! Out of interest, do pocketgpsworld have an API for remote login or you doing it manually?

No API that I've found, am manually fetching the file through web requests, it's fragile but hopefully the pocketgpsworld site doesn't change too often.

Trying to decide how many categories to have, as I'm thinking I might have more than I need, will probably group a few,

Fixed
Specs
Red Light
Mobile

Not sure what to do with the redspeed and monitron cameras, would people expect to see them in the redlight or fixed category?

Personally if they're speed related I would prefer them to categorised as fixed. What would you think?

So I've gone with Fixed for now, happy to move things around if it doesn't make sense.

I've now put my first version up on the internet. It seems to work for me but doesn't come with any form of warranty or guarantees of support.

http://mcaddy.github.io/audipoi/

Currently there is one known issue, namely it fails to correctly merge the Cameras with existing categories already present on the card, not sure what the cause is yet but will work on this next time I've got a chance. For now I'd recommend building the Database on an empty SD card.

Thanks for that . Used the app and worked fine for me.

Sorry guys I think I'm being a bit of an idiot - can anyone tell me what to download from the PocketGPS site??

The website for the PGPSW camera database is www.pocketgpsworld.com. I use it on my TomTom device and it gives me a beep when I'm approaching any camera location as well as showing it on the map. I switch the unit on whenever I'm driving for that purpose. Occassionally I use it as a Sat/Nav as well but not very often. I have a free lifetime renewal of the database because I reported a new camera position some years ago. It is a excellent database and is kept up-to-date by very frequent updates.

Does this still work? I cannot find where to import the database on myaudi... it seems like they have changed the site since I last logged in (last year November)

Yes, I updated mine only last week, I'm guessing your My Destinations applet has disappeared from the My.Audi website ? - that's where you upload it to. Give me a sec and I'll look for the workaround.

Based on TonyF1's post in the map update thread ...

For anyone missing any of widgets on myAudi there is a workaround. If you select one of widgets you can see replace the part of the url after service/xxxxxxx e.g. Map Update is service/mapcare and special destinations is service/personalpoi - this one has been missing for ages from the UI and is useful for adding speed cameras.

Someone may want to document the options and add to an FAQ as the widgets do keep disappearing

Example URL

https://my.audi.com/content/gb/myau...detail.VINGOESHERE.html#tab/services/service/mapcare

You'll need :-

https://my.audi.com/content/gb/myau...detail.VINGOESHERE.html#tab/services/service/personalpoi

Uploaded all the csv files... set icons etc, ticked 'all' and then download and got a '.jnlp' file. This doesn't seem to be right...

Do I need to wait for the package to be ready for download? It isn't too obvious haha

Only done it last week and trying to think ... Double click the jnlp file and it should start another download that will probably require your my.audi login details. That download will be what you need to put on SD card.

Ahh feel free to ignore haha

Hadn't installed Java ... DOH! And to think I have a degree in Applied Computing :D haha :p

Was just wondering whether this would work as it lets you download the POI's for free.
Would you happen to know what format the file is when you download it from pocketgps?

If ive read right its a garmin format but it shows more than one to download..

Yep that's it - basically an Excel spread sheet of longitude/latitude GPS co-ordinates for each type of camera.
