Ok, it didn't work out, no issue. Buy your BMW and move on. Personal preference, and each to their own. Even go to the BMW forum and tell them how much you didn't get on with your S4, thats cool. What you don't do is tell the Audi enthusiasts forum how much you don't like the car, it's just not cricket.

It's like a vegetarian going to the annual bbq festival and telling then competitors that you tried meat once and you though it sucked, no one cares, tell your vegetation friends.

I didn't go to the BMW forum and tell them that I test drove a 335i but it felt like a toy car inside so I bought an S4 instead....because I'm not 22. Which is the immature posting behaviour you get nowadays from the facepage kids. Not everyone wants to know when you're taking a dump, or if you're having a cheese buttie. Don't post it.

To be honest I don't mind hearing why people don;t get on with their vehicles, fine with me, I'm not taking any offence, each to there own.

I've owned Merc (C63 + others), BMW;s (e90 M3 + others) and Audi's (RS4, S4 +others) and I have both positive and negative opinions on them all.

As long as we don't abuse anyone or prevent free speech then all is good.

Yes, it seems that I am missing quite a few - I have the following pre-facelift pdfs:
edition 7.2 (old style) 07/09 MY2010 - s-tronic or manual
edition 3.0 02/10 MY2010 - s-tronic or manual
edition 7.0 12/11 MY2012 - s-tronic only
 
Then do post it, but posting a thread looking to hook a reaction (which is exactly what this is) is also called trolling ;-)

Given that you seem to be in the minority, it could be said that posting your opinions (several times) is also "looking to hook a reaction"....

I've only been here a month and one big reason it's become my favourite over others with A4/S4 sections is because of the people who seem to be generally chilled out and level headed with their comments compared to some of the other (mostly US based) forums where every second thread seems to involve arguments, genuine trolling or a willy waving competition over tuning, racing on the road or drag strip times. Hoping this thread is a one off :)

I wouldn't worry too much, Loco. This is a very minor disagreement in what, as you've correctly observed, is a friendly and harmonious forum.

I have to agree with fruit, I have been a porker and MB man for years. Still run a porker but fell out with MB and will never own another.

If you posted on the MB forum the BMW was better, there would be blood on the moon! A few did come on with the M vs AMG debate and there was huge trouble. It's not considered the done thing to slate cars on an owners forum. It's ok if you own one but not otherwise. It's a bit like telling someone their wife and kids are ugly, you are going to get a negative reaction.
 
Before people ask what happened with MB..

I have a brabus, MB can not service it because of the modifications. They did plug it in but the machine light up like a Crimbo tree, so when I tried to claim on the MB corrosion warranty they said no as it had not be serviced by MB !

Both the wife and I had MBs and have both changed so that's £50k they lost out on this year and more in following years. All for the sake of £700 worth of paint work.

I'd hate it if our forum became one where only positive comments were welcome. They very quickly become quarrelsome and febrile. If you don't believe me, spend a few days on the 8V section of ASN.

Hell, I had a Peugeot GTI 306-6 and it was one of the best chassis' I ever driven and I worked at Lotus at the time and borrowed Elise's, Exige's, and Esprits regualaly, even a 340R (if you don't know it, Google it) and the Peugeot was excellent. I could post this comment here and I doubt anyone would give me grief but BMW and Merc forums don't seem to work that way which is the a shame.

Yeah, christ, any more than 10mins in the 8V section and you want to swing yourself from the ceiling. I went to a fight once and the 8V forum came out of it

When I first posted on this forum about "road tax", I used to get told I was being charged the wrong level of tax, but the reality is, after you have checked the vehicle build statement, and that quotes the emissions, then that is that - as that will be what has triggered "that" level of road tax.

On the subject of inter marque rivals, when I bought my wife a brand new VW 9N Polo in 2002, and only then discovered that it was a Skoda Fabia with a smarter suit of clothes - and lots of things went wrong with it that could be traced to its "parent" platform, the Fabia gang were not happy to hear what I felt was the truth, unfortunately that Fabia forum was the only place, at that time to ask for advice as the typical Polo forum was dealing with mainly bits to stick on Mum's car! Later the Ibiza forum became conversant with the equivalent Ibiza model and its (Skoda based) problems.
 
sorry to hear you and your audi didnt get on mate, i came from bmw, 3 series, 5 series and an X5 and i have to say after getting my first s4 i wil prob never go back to BM, my S4 has had its fair share of trouble but this hasnt put me of in the slightest i love it to bits and will deff purchase an S4 or rs4 once this one has had its day

Its each to there own and you like what you like, if your not happy with something then change it, hope you have better luck back with BMW

First of all, I don't have to explain myself to you or try and justify my posts. If you don't like what I post, then tough. You are the only one that seems to have a problem with it.

As for me giving my opinion on a car that I owned, this is how I experienced it. I tried to be as neutral as I could since I didn't just want to slag the car off, even though that is how I felt. It might surprise you, but my wife also owns an Audi and she absolutely loves it. So I will be using the forum some more if I have any problems with hers.

I bought my S4 and lived with it for a few months, not just test drove it. I think that qualifies me to give my opinion on it.

The guys on http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum were great when I went there saying I was considering buying a GT-R but I had a list of things I didn't like about it. They didn't tell me to **** off but considered my criticisms of the car and made constructive comments. One of them even made the suggestion that I should get a B8 because the engine is tuneable to the same level as a stock MY09/10 GTR.
 
@MFM, you'll have seen by now that most people, me included, have been supportive of your right to post honestly about your experiences with your S4. You're also, naturally, entitled to respond yourself to those who've taken the opposite view. But not at the expense of raising the temperature all over again, and being inflammatory. To that end, I've trimmed your post slightly.

I think being able to tolerate people giving an honest opinion is essential, I dislike fanboyism to that extent.
All german cars are awesome. Except opel.
 
I've had 4 Audi's, a 1.8T Quattro Sport (1999), an 8P S3 (2007), a lovely Mk1 TT (2004) and an 8V S3 (2014) and I'm afraid none of them have lasted longer than 18 months. I think I took to the TT more than any of them purely as it was bought as a stop gap to see if I could run an 'old' car, not on PCP/loan, and still derive some pleasure in owing/driving it. I had much lower expectations with it than a new car.

I'm always drawn to the looks of an Audi, they are usually very handsome, less in your face than BMW's and I always like the interiors and the general feel of solidity. When I look at what I want in a car, and think sensibly, with an Audi I can get all wheel drive (useful for up here in Aberdeen), good performance, reasonable economy. They always tick my boxes on looks and figures. I stick my sensible hat on, and at the grand old age of 43, try and persuade myself I'm ready for a grown up car :happy:

Then after about a year usually, I'm frustrated as they just don't give me the fizz I'm looking for, and I end up back in a 'worse' car, like a Subaru or a Boxster. Something with a bit of character that gives me a better driving experience, with a loud exhaust lol.

Give me 18 months in one of them though, and then I start to think, hmmmm I'm too old for these cars and I'd be better back in a sensible Audi. Repeat ad infinitum :blink:

I guess what I'm trying to say is I do understand the OP's decision, sometimes life's too short to have a car you just don't get on with, and an Audi isn't for everyone :sadlike:

See you back here in 18 months with an RS3 saloon, maybe :huh: hahahahaha

I've been in the exact situation myself when I rushed into chopping my fully-loaded ex-demo 130i in for a Focus ST-3. They were all the rage at the time but after 3 months of ownership I couldn't stick it anymore. The thing felt like a boat in comparison to the BM and absolutely drank fuel. Chopped it in against another BM but thankfully lost nothing on it.

I certainly spent a lot longer when I chopped in the 330d against the A4 and don't regret it since. The OHs A6 is coming up for changing so in the process of debating that one too...
 
I've had my A4 since march 2014, not a single problem.
But I'm thinking of getting an A5 cabrio, for the next year. I'm working on getting a customs exemptions, its absolutely CRAZY over here, I paid around 60k USD for a base model a4 1.8t, an S4 would set me back around 100k, so I either get an exemption or I move back to Canada lmao
