Firstly, apologies for another "thicko" question.
I did a spec check (previously) on the A3 (2013) that I bought yesterday, I was told one of the options it has is USB / Ipod connect - so where is the USB port ?
The reason I'm interested is that I'm having real problems with the AMI cable I bought from Audi yesterday. It's got a white collar (part no. P A4F0 051 510 AC) they told me that it's what they sell for the iphone 6. I was expecting a green or yellow collar but they told me the white one had superseded both and it was definitely the correct one for the iphone 6.
However it just keeps connecting and reconnecting every 3-4 seconds, so if the USB option is another way of connecting to the AMI (?) I'd be interested in knowing. I might have got the wrong end of the stick completely, however ?

Thanks !

As veeeight says the yellow collar cable is the latest for the iPhone 6. I think the parts department have misled you. I didn't think that the white one has a Lightning connector?

The USB socket in the compartment between the front seats (only on cars with Tech Pack I think) is only for charging and does not connect to the AMI system.

Ok, thanks. It is a lightning connector but I'll speak to the parts department and see if they've got any yellow collared ones.

To answer the question about USB interface to AMI. There is a separate cable for AMI to full size USB.
Also one for micro-USB.

Hi all

So I gather from this thread that without Tech Pack, you cannot connect an ipad/iPod/iPhone for music with a lead? I thought most cars had this feature now

I have a week old 65 plate A3 TFSI COD sport without tech pack, but with B&O in case your asking

You don't need Tech Pack to connect your device - all of the cars have an AMI socket under the armrest, you just need to get the correct cable from Audi for whatever device you want to use.

The only extra connection with the Tech pack is a USB socket that can be used for charging (not for music).

Non-tech pack here and I leave a spare iPhone 5 connected in the car and use Apple Music. Phone is set to automatically download all songs I put in a preset playlist and does so when it's connected to the house wifi when sitting in the drive. I've got a SIM card in the phone but have mobile data switched off for the Apple Music app so it doesn't eat data when away from wifi. If I want a new song in the car I add it to my car playlist with my iPad and the car downloads it when sitting outside and it's there when I go out to the car, works great, especially if you want to add/remove songs frequently like I do.

That's a very clever idea and answers my question about Apple Music!

Thanks

You could always try eBay or Gumtree, they're pretty cheap if you buy one that is fully operational but in poor cosmetic condition. It'll spend its life in the centre console so looks don't matter.
