I've just gone off the phone with APR and they want to try and gauge an interest in how many would be wanting the 2 new addons which APR have now brought out in the states!
1. Launch control for manual transmission!
2. Flat shifting for manual transmission!

If your interested in any of these two addons, then you will need to email Wayne!
Here is the email he sent out to me!
If you have a manual car with an APR map, then contact Wayne as the more people who request this the !

that sounds fun...if only apr dealer was closer...or if revo would do something like that...
(wot box isn't an option for me..)

You'd need to be sensible about the set point rpm for launch control,i.e. a bit below peak torque,as the drivetrain on our cars is not the toughest.

I have LC,flat shift and ALS in the ECU menus on mine, but I don't use them.

What is flat shift?

Means basically not having to lift your foot off the throttle when you change gear.

In practice the ECU will drop load a bit as the clutch pedal is depressed by either cutting ignition or fuelling very briefly.

Good side is very fast gearshifts, with less boost loss between shifts, and downside can be very high EGTs with smaller turbos already pushed hard.

The thing with all of these additions is that they all have both good and bad sides.

Flat shift....see above.

Launch control...very high potential torque loading at launch if you don't choose the rpm hold value properly, meaning if you set the LC rpm to coincide with peak torque, then you run the risk of snapping driveshafts or gearbox damage.
This isn't me being a naysayer, there are a good number of people who've done just this.

ALS.....anti-lag to reduce boost loss between shifts,or to allow boost building at a start/launch.
Generally works by retarding ignition and maintaining fuelling on throttle closure, and a lot of fuel gets burnt in the exhaust, maintaining gas flow through the turbo.
That's the good side.....downside is massive rise in EGT's,plus rapid torque changes across the shaft linking the hot and cold sides of the turbo, both of which may cause failure on non-ALS ready turbos.

there's detailed explanation on apr website. they say it's perfectly safe for cat so it seems that it doesn't work like wot box.
there's also video explaining both launch control and no lift shift and seems that there are no flames between shifts...
of course i doubt anyone would use it constantly (i know i wouldn't) but i would be fun to have that feature..

I feel your pain..........

I feel a little let down by REVO I'm like you 2+ and seems theres no updates or anymore time invested in our S3 8P models just jump straight on to the next newest thing, But what they forget is all us will soon upgrade to a new car and remember the lack of extras like APR are offering

Really has made me think

Yes...it's OT a bit but....

One of the reasons I looked beyond Revo, with whom I'd been happy for some time, was the lack of upgrades, and perhaps understandable unwillingness to push the envelope a bit.

LOL!! No worries I was just baffled a little but been up early with no Coffee and could not work it out lol!

Like S. has said above, it would be fantastic to have both these mods but i wont be using them hardly at all either... But that one time i wish i had them is the one time ill be gutted when i come up against a much more expensive car for example, and he wants to play :)
Im sure if this was detramental to the car and engine, then they wouldnt be putting these mods out there. Im sure most people wouldnt be using these mods all the time anyway!?
And as for the odd 1/4 mile times, im sure this will help no end!

I'll be ringing up again net week to see where we're at and hopefully Wayne, the APR rep for the UK will have some positive news!

I wish this could be done on the TSI engine to.

Im sure theyll be able to add it to TSI cars if theyre doing it on the TFSI. Worth asking. Im going to be running a K04 TSI shortly and would like these too!

Should be possible but probably involve a lot of work.
Did you see my TSI k04 dyno numbers? I'm running a special 100oct map file. The car runs superb.
Search for "APR Norway" here on the forum to see...
Mine is a DSG so not sure if possible to get boost on LC and during gear shifts.

Never realised there was K04 TSI guys on here. Did you DIY or buy a kit? Will have a search!

Unfortunately it's a waiting game atm but as soon as I know something I'll let you know.
My cars going to be the guineapig for the new additions ;-)

It's been tried and tested in the states so I think it's just Apr UK covering there own **** and to the the box that it's fine

Yeah im sure it will be, aslong as its not abused and LC used everytime you come to a standstill haha!

Getting APR map on Thursday and id def have got flatshift if i could..

Mine is a K04d TSI though so is that going to be available?

same here. I just bought the whole lot but used LC once and it was fun but now I'm done

Well ive got my TSI K04 map now and it has launch control (3k rpm), i havent tried for flat shift yet as im still running standard clutch until Helix arrives start of next week. Standard clutch cant take the power never mind flat shifting!!

Don't think flat shift is supported on the TSI (EA888) engin. Only TFSI (EA113) is as of now.

Did you get the latest sw v.3.1 w/ 3bar map?
How do you like it?

Yes 3bar map sensor software, but didnt they have that on the previous maps?

It goes like absolute stink, and the limited boost between 3-4k rpm makes it chaos as it gets full boost at 4k, normally involving a struggle for traction which is fun!

The clutch obviously isn't coping so when Helix arrives i will get to feel its full potential! I will put it on a local RR to get some figures too!

This is nothing new, a lot of tuning companies have been offering such a service. Back in February/March, Doug at MRC mentioned it to me. I was really intrigued as my friend had it on his RS4. The downside of the LC, and main one in my opinion, it'll severely reduce the life of your drivetrain.

Launch at pod, and you're ****** imo.

The tuner that did my Revo stage 2+ back in Oct '14 put the LC on my manual gearbox without any charge... Said it was a little surprise for me when I picked it up!

Whilst it is phenomenal I've only used it 3 times for fear of wrecking the drivetrain even with a Sachs clutch setup

The problem with uprating one or other parts of the drivetrain,is that you shift the failure to the next weakest point.

In our cars,it's clutch,followed by gearbox,and driveshafts.

The gearbox casing can be beefed up a little, and the bearings can be uprated, but basically, repeated launches with increased torque are likely to cause the sort of problems already seen.

The gearbox can deal with 540lbs,but not instant loads.

Try asking for the 100 Oct map. You'll be surprised I have that loaded on to mine. European fuel has a better quality then the states so it's safe to run with 98oct fuel on the 100oct map. Find my Dyno thread about it

Does revo have lc? And flat shift? As i did ask them and they said they aren't going to develop that..

What would they normally load?

I always use the 98/99 ron fuel.

The normal map would be 95oct file. If you have cruise control than they would load stock-95oct-98oct. But if you ask "pretty please" you might get the 100oct and that would impress you I can assure you
I track my car a lot and S3's with hybrid turbo on REVO sw have no chance

Nice. I dont have CC so i assume i got 98, i wish i asked more now!

Will 100 map be totally safe of 98/99 ron fuel?
