3.0tfsi?

There's a few bits on the Bitdi thread on this A6 forum. (Not sure how to link from a phone - sorry).

But to paraphrase it - 3.0tfsi is indeed rare, more so as it never worked over here from a company car tax point of view with the emissions, mpg vs the 3.0 diesels and due to this depreciation was heavy. Although as you will see comparitivley it's quite a bargain.

I also believe it runs a slightly detuned version of the S4 / S5 engine, so is easily tuneable....

I have gone for the Bitdi as have been burned by a niche car in the past - 535i active hybrid, which whilst a lovely car it sat inbetween the 535i and the 535d with only about 10 % better mpg over the petrol and a tiny tiny boot due to the battery pack. (Depreciation was horrendous!)

Bitdi is a remarkable car, am going to pick up some time later in the month (as need to sell my current wheels) - and they are starting to get down to sensible money now that the facelift is out a while.

Just my tuppence worth!

It was listed at 28,790 and without looking at it I've got the dealer down to 25k.

Would you recommend the diesel? I've not had a petrol for a while now, other than the Mrs TTS..
Mpg doesn't really concern me, its reliability and extras fitted.

I'm the opposite, I've always had petrols!

Like you I fancied a change, so tested the Bitdi and loved it.

You'll get a load of opinions on here and great advice, but go out for a drive in it, if you like it buy it - start by offering them stupid money for it and see how they react.

A reasonable gauge is also to use the autotrader app, if you have the reg you could put it into the sell my car option - and you will get a good estimate of what the car is worth today if you were to sell it yourself, I did that with a few and they were within 90% of what the dealer had on the sticker.....

The bitdis are starting to come in under £30k but with 40k+ miles, and relatively low spec, for which is a car with similar performance to the 3.0ltr T, but higher fuel costs and potentially servicing costs. That £5k you would save buys a lot of petrol!!!! But as above I would worry about the depreciation, and saleability when you decided to sell.

So do whatever you think is right, they are ****** good cars, enjoy the dilemma!

It's a great car with two main issues working against it:

Depreciation - the idea of a big petrol is just out of favour in the UK unless you want a sports orientated car. Then people will seek out S6's which are not that much more and come with so many extra's like brakes, seats and suspension.

The BiTDI - like for like performance with all the benefits of diesel. This has made this particular engine a bit special and prices for BiTDI's are holding very well.

The depreciation on the TFSI's is brutal, but if you're buying it 2nd hand, then that works in your favour... I bought mine 2.5yrs ago... with 250miles on the clock.... IIRC, I would have had to pay ~£15k more for the equivalent spec and mileage BiTDI.

The BiTDI will hold it's value (because it's TDI) and the fuel consumption is way better, plus it's slightly faster out the box... but if it's speed you're after, then (as mentioned in this thread), the engine in the TFSI is the S5 engine, but de-tuned so it doesn't encroach on the S6... and the TFSI already has uprated braked compared to the regular A6's (probably the same for the BiTDI). A pulley change + remap will see at least 375bhp, anything up to 450bhp... but some people are reporting 400bhp+ just with a remap... and you can be nudging around 550bhp and ~200mph (along with uprated suspension and brakes!) for about £6-7k (€9k) from JDEngineering.

Gotta love it: €2700 for a pulley + remap and they're getting 465bhp on that... plus you'd be close to Germany to take it for a blast.

I think even that relatively mild fettling has 0-60 close to 4.0sec and top speed around 190mph.... I think the S5's are clocking ~3.7sec on a 0-60mph blast with a pulley, remap and DSG remap.

Don't panic when you see the torque curve - that "625" is in Nm, not lb/ft.... to the peak of 625Nm is ~460lb/ft.... it's not a TDI ;)

Still pretty amazing when you consider that a BiTDI is 650lb/ft peak with 550lb/ft from 2100-4400rpm (2300rpm range), while this will do nearly the same peak torque, but most importantly, it wlil spread that 550lb/ft from 2600rpm to 6500pm (3900rpm range, 50% wider spread than a BiTDI!).

Yes the BiTDI can be remapped for a bigger slug of toruqe lower in the rev range, but it still maxes out at ~4500rpm and even with the heavy fettling option to ~520-550bhp, the TFSI still costs less to buy than a BiTDI.

Fuel consumption **may** be higher, so the high-mileage drivers probably best avoid this one ;)
