New tyres

Ive just had 4 new tyres,and straight away noticed very strange reactions to the cars handling,
dangerous infact.
Ive done some digging and new tyres need a "scrubbing in" period like wearing them in.
ive never noticed this before as ive only bought in pairs.
but 4 new tyres is very scary...ive done around 600 miles on them and still no better.air pressures are fine.
feels like im driving on ice,almost 4 wheel steering.
There budgets but have C,C ratings.

Ive put my old wheels on and it handles like before really well.

would that make any difference?

I even went and ordered new RARB bushes.and stabalizers.

They're non directional.
just say outside/inside
And are on correctly.
If i steer side to side TC comes on lol.

Scrubbing in a car tyre shouldn't take more than a single journey, if they are really that bad it's either a dodgy batch of rubber or there's something up with the geometry?

You can also rule out contamination as even if you drove through an oil slick that wouldn't last 600 miles!

I put my old half worns on,and its glued to the road.that much i had a play with a motorbike on the way home tonight.
im scared to drive over 50 with new ones on,and thank god it hasnt rained since ive had them on.
i should have filmed it.it was really boaty aswel.old wheels back on and its really stiff again.
im absolutely puzzled,and so are the tyre fitters.

Sounds stupid but are they the same width wheels and tyres on the new set?

I.e. You haven't got narrower tyres on wider wheels? (which would cause loss of grip)

rs6 are et43
s4s are et45

Landsail were on the rs6's when i bought them.
and the ones above.
the new ones have better ratings too.

I'm sorry, but the specs mean nothing on cheapo tyres. I've got Triangle tyres on mine and they have good spec ratings but they're appalling tyres. Previously I've had Sunew tyres (another cheap Chinese brand) and they were as you've described, dangerous).

I'm afraid you've just bought crap tyres and this is a good lesson for the future. I've just bought 5 new Goodyear eagle's to replace my cheapo budget tyres.

Ive never had a problem before with budgets,im currently using some and are fine. Very windy roads and i know them well.
I just can't get my head around it being so different but it looks like your spot on.
They can go back asap.
Somebody with less experience could really hurt themselves.

Hi Ross,

From experience, im inclined to agree with Garth above.

I took advice from all the guys on here and went for semi-premium tyres and they are VERY good thus far.

All the alarm bells are unfortunately pointing to the dodgy tyres.

Part exchange them for better ones if you can!

Personally I went for the 'Nangkang NS II'

Which received high ratings on every comparison website. Very popular in the States. Impressed so far.

They were £90 per corner.

In your case, I would definitely go for something like;

- Falkens (havent heard a single bad review on these, mate also has them)
- Kumho's
- Veredestien's

All of the above are pretty much premium tyres, but dont have the ridiculous premium price.

Hopefully this helps as I spent HOURS researching all of these to the last review!

Pays to shop about as your local tyre shops are often cheaper and 347 would have been the price of a budget set in kiwk fit.

I heard those nang kangs are good.
What i spent on 4,will get me 2,so shows the difference.

I have Nexen N8000 all round on mine and can't fault them. I usually have Nexen N6000's like a few on here but they didn't have any in stock so tried the N8000 instead.I've had a few different makes in the 9 yrs I've had the car,Goodyear eagle's, Dunlop Sportsmax's,Conti's,toyo, Falkens and Hankook to name a few but for the money the Nexen's are great. Have the thank Mike.M for telling me about them.

I'd say thats good enough service.

Hopefully it will be a minor inconvenience, but a good lesson learned I guess.

The reason why the NangKangs are supposed to be good is that they hold their tread for slightly longer due to the compound they use.

When running them in, they are noisy though haha

Yeah, I would blame budget tyres too.

When I bout my RS6 reps, they came with fullrun tyres - they were almost new, so decided to run with them until they needed replacing.
I didnt get that far with them, after around 2 months of use I thought I had a puncture, took the car for a puncture repair and was called back shortly after asking if I wanted to come and take a look - the inner-side wall had split all the way around the circumference and was leaking air! (Tyres were the correct speed and load/weight rating)
The others were starting to split too.
In terms of handling, I would have said the car felt ok, but the tyres had no feedback - you couldnt tell where the limit of grip was.

I kind of then moved onto cheaper premium tyres - Maxxis, Avon.etc - they changed the feel of the car.
I would like to try Pilot supersports but they are out of my budget for a 19" low profile tyre.
Currently running Avon zz5.

That's the problem, you can't rely on the ratings and it's a lottery with anything that isn't a big brand. As a general rule of thumb, stay away from Chinese tyres as every brand I've experienced is very poor (I'm sure there will be exceptions, there always are).

I've previously had Matador tyres put on the front of my 530d M Sport by a dealer when I bought the car. I had stipulated that it needed front tyres when I viewed it. They must have bought the cheapest 245/35/19 tyres they could get and I was miffed. Turned out, they were absolutely excellent tyres. Very quiet, great grip and long lasting. A bit of research and it turned out, they are owned by Continental, so at least there is a link to a big brand!

I know money can be very tight at times and when it comes to buying four new tyres, it seems like a big expense. What you have to remember is that they are probably the most important thing you buy for your car in terms of safety and handling. If you buy an expensive suspension setup and then buy cheap tyres, you're throwing money away. If you do anything other than a straightforward, slow, boring commute in your car, buy the best tyres you can get and hold off on the nice-to-have mods. It's worth it in the long run ;-)

I've had all of those and all would be acceptable. Vreds summer tyres seem to wear out quickly though, but their Wintrak tyres are the best winter tyres I've ever used.

I had Falken FK452 on my TT (also Quattro) and whilst they were excellent value for money and a decent tyre, they were still a long way off the likes of Goodyear Eagle, or Michelin Pilot Sport for grip.

Searching around other forums, Ive also heard excellent things in terms of Grip for the Vredesteins Winter. In some comparisons, they won over Dunlop Sport Maxx GT's which are so expensive per corner.

As my boss says, (big time Science geek) and as you similarly say..

Your tyres are the most important and only interface between you and the road. They need to be premium as rubber can fail as a result of getting hot and the last thing you want is a cracked sidewall or for the GRIP to be less than very good.

I highly rate Nexen tyres but their European brand name has changed to "Roadstone" now......same tyre models, just different name for this part of the world weirdly as I personally like the name Nexen LOL

Nexen N6000 is now Roadstone N6000 etc...

I've got Vredesteins on my Avant and they are a great tyre, nice a grippy even in the wet.

I would never put ditch finders on my car, just not worth it. As above tyres are your only contact with the road, so they need to be decent.
