Just been trying to work out how to do Audi Connect on my car, been out and found there is no sim slot in the glove box.

Checked my Audi code of ACPNU2YP which was the original order email exchange and it definitely shows it there!

Because I negotiated a discount I didn't realise on the order form that it just said Technology Pack, not the Audi Connect. What do I do? The whole reason I ordered this was because I need to travel for work, and have the ability to have staff working on the move. Plus I've paid for it in the price. The only thing is, I signed the order form saying without connect. Where do I stand on this? Can it be retro fitted?

Thanks in advance.

I would argue this tbh, anything can be retrofitted, but cost wise its better to discuss with the dealer 1st.

Really sorry to have to tell you mate but Audi aren't obliged to do anything in this situation - they will just say that you should have checked the order form before committing.

It would be quite a big job for them to rectify it as a gesture of goodwill, so can't see them doing that.

If you have paid for it as you suggest then yes I would contact you dealer and see what they offer, but based on my understanding of the Audi order system having seen my salesman change my order several times, the car + optional extras dictate the price, then the discount which is applied in a field is then applied at least in my case across the options, so based on that, you haven't actually paid for the techpack with connect.

I feel for you, but you really should have been very thorough with checking your order forms when signing them

Thanks for your replies on this. I suppose I assumed it has been abbreviated on the order form, and as I gave them the code which is what they requested to avoid any confusion. At the end of the day I'm a customer who gave them the exact code of my spec, somehow they've managed to change it. I will be phoning politely on this one tomorrow I think. Considering I specced up my step mums exactly the same apart from a different colour, hers has come with the ****** thing and she doesn't even want to use it!! Haha typical!

I've yet to see anyone retrofit Connect. It needs accounts setting up on Audi's servers, which are configured to the vin number of your car.

I suspect you'll have three options:

1) accept it as it is.
2) accept it as it is with a goodwill payment / refund from the dealer (depending on whether they admit fault)
3) order a new car with Connect, hopefully with some goodwill from the dealer thrown in for the mistake, and an agreement for you to keep this one until the new one arrives.

I hope for your sake they play ball and admit the mistake!

I just had the front parking sensors retro fitted and it goes in soon to have the black inlays fitted, both of these where on my original order, but didnt get onto the order that was sent to Audi.

Northampton held up there hands to both, and have paid for both to be installed, hopefully your dealer will be as helpful.

This is really useful to know thank you.

I have a feeling option 2 is what they will suggest. Option 3 seems crazy for a £300 mistake, plus I had to wait 5 months for my car makes it highly unlikely they'll want to be waiting that long again let alone me! Thank you for your advice however. Appreciated.

Bummer !! Sorry to hear this so far connect is the option I've used the least but sounds like you had a specific need for it.

My salesman Lee printed out a separate sheet with my order which was the list of options (16) including zero cost ones which I went through and signed. This is just something that he does that upon hearing what had happened to Andy I suggested should become compulsory.

Glad northampton are at least trying to stop it happening again.

Glad to hear yours is getting sorted - the inlays should be pretty straight forward I should think after having the sensors fitted.

This is a much better way of doing it. I actually ordered via email, liaising was done by phone before.
Having seen the news on retrofitting I'm not looking forward to the call tomorrow. It may seem so small but this is really annoying me! Haha

It can be easily retrofitted with Audi Connect. All they have to do is remove the unit in the glovebox which requires readily available radio removal keys and then replace it with the audi connect unit. The wiring is exactly the same, all that is needed is a UTMS antenna to be installed. As it would be a new part from factory, it wouldn't have component protection and will automatically bind with your vehicles VIN

Thanks for this, will speak with them tomorrow and get a definite answer.

And you are going to bind to the myAudi servers in Audi AG, exactly how?

This is going to be the same "it's possible to retrofit a sub to the standard 5F", isn't it :)

Still won't work. The 5F unit in the car has to be linked to an activated My Audi account with associated Connect permissions and features. This is all managed by the factory when the car is built, so that the system knows what VIN numbers have the tech pack, and which have Connect.

Just because you add a Connect-enabled 5F unit to the car doesn't alter information held by Audi for your VIN number, therefore none of the Connect features will work.

Getting this to work would require a change of build record for your VIN number, and updating the My Audi database. Something I've yet to see be done, even by Audi.

Not forgetting the fact that the 5F units are approx £4,000 each + labour. It'd be cheaper and easier all round to re-order a new car with it fitted from the factory.

^ This.

The "Internet" connection from the 5F is all tunnelled through the Audi AG portal/proxy, so you can change the hardware in the car, but you can't overcome the hard coded tunnel portal/proxy.

Someone is selling an add-on Raspberry Pi based solution which tries to get around this, it does to a certain extent, but you are still left without the myAudi account functionality.

Northampton seem to have a habit of missing spec from the order. I thought mine arriving with the wrong gearbox was an isolated case but obviously not. They seem pretty good at messing up orders. I am starting to lose faith in that Northampton lot. Probably won't order my next car from them.

Apparently once the salesman has enter all the order options, which you then sign, this information is then re-entered into the Audi system. Couldn't believe in this day and age that they use two independent systems.

Just been texting the salesman who dealt the other S3 in the family, he says he always produces the order form from the code. Stops errors. He is adamant they must have manually created the order themselves to get it different. I actually almost dealt with Northampton as they wanted my business but they sound as bad as York at this rate!

Personally I would have thought that Audi AG would be able to change the overall spec related to a particular VIN number providing this is done by refitting an Audi part and by an Audi dealer.
Similar to the way, my dealer connected to the Audi AG system, via a special laptop and the internet. The computer read my VIN number and then the technician was able to 'enable' the extra menu on the MMI related to the ACC. This information is now stored against my particular car. I'm sure that if the correct Audi parts are fitted and, possibly with the involvement of Audi Technical in the UK headquarters, it should be possible. I suggest a discussion with an Audi Master Tech at the dealers rather than the salesman would be a better way to find out was is and is not possible.

In theory, Dave, yes.

I have yet to see this having been done with specific reference to retrofit of Connect.
Coupled with the (likely prohibitive) cost.

Yes I'm sure it would not be a cheap option. But if the dealer made the error it may be a way out.

This is good to hear, not meaning to hi-jack, but a very similar thing has happened to me with Coventry. My pre-delivery order form had Comfort Pack with Park Plus, but in all the day one pick up excitement, I didn't realise until I got home that it only had the standard acoustic rear sensors. Incredibly happy with the car, this is my only issue so far, so fingers crossed and I will update when I hear back from the dealer.

Just had confirmation from the dealer. Audi Connect cannot be retrofitted. They've held their hands up on this and said it was their fault, fair play to them for being so good about it. As I need the functionality for business, they are coming back to me with a few options, just confirming with the bosses.

1) stay in the car and wait for a new one (5 months for an exclusive!!)
2) hand the car back and they provide an alternative vehicle until a new car arrives.

It's probably more a case of Connect cannot be retrofitted by them at a cost they are prepared to pay. I'm sure it could be done but it would be very expensive to do so they have offered you what are basically alternatives that would be acceptable to them and to you.

Good result so far, that they have admitted its their fault ! What an error !

Sorry to hear that buddy, what option do you think you'll go for?

It's a new car! I'm staying in this one until the new one arrives. I'm tempted to change colour now as I'll be able to keep this one for 5 months. Or I just join team Sepang and have one within 2 months....

I have to say York Audi have handled this one really well.

Now it's a tough call, do I order the same colour / spec?
If I go Sepang I can add LED headlights... decisions decisions...

I was going to say I'm sure if they admitted fault they would re order a car and provide you with one in the meantime... What a bad screwup though

Northampton used a company called Richtersport in Milton Keynes to retro fit, they are virtually indistinguishable from the factory fit.

Ah ok, did you have the same issue as me then? Do your park sensors now show in the display? Interesting that they used a 3rd party company, do you know if they drilled your bumper or if they ordered a new one. I was also wondering if Audi had "giveaway" on their bumper harness, meaning that the connectors for the front sensors are there but only used if they are required. (sorry for the inquisition lol)

@Bristle Hound I want to choose a new exclusive colour, can you possibly point me in the direction of the colour list? There was a website packed with lots of them but I just can't find it! thanks

Exactly the same, just missed the parking plus off the options list when they reentered the order. Bumper was drilled and Northampton assured me that it would be ok. The only difference I could see is that the factory cutout has a slight rounded profile, where the retro cutout is sharper. Not that you'd noticed unless you got really close. I'll get some pics up at the weekend. They also installed the button inside and activated the parking display on the MMI.

You have to choose another colour or you won't be the only one in the country! ;) As for Sepang, I'm build week 24 for my hatch :(

Can't beleive Audi can make such a balls up. You would double and triple check everything surely with all cars that are configured by the buyer.

At least you can keep that one and forget about the new one.

I would go for something REALLY exclusive :D
