I found what has been causing the knocking on the A2...

...which was emphasising the play in the offside drop link....

Looks like a previous owner has used insulating tape to pack out the failing ARB bush...

So to get over it I cleaned the old girl seeing as she has had a couple of thousand miles of winter grime on her...

Did you press the old bushes out of the rear subframe?
yeah i did, well because i dont have special tools to take them out i destroy them but who cares anyway I had intended to buy new bushes so I chose the easiest way

... Mostly Rubber and press out with easy? ...
depending on the tool if you have the right tool is child's play but if you dont and you need to improvise then can be really difficult somethimes

Front left abs sensor and rear right replaced, both failed within about 900miles. Finally replaced the ariel which needed some drilling, removed the back box which had rusted through. Only to find the shop didn't have the correct one. Sounds mean now though. Won't be rushing to put it back on.

Anyone have a spare exhaust to fit 01 a3 tqs?

The legends at Badger5 today replaced an oil seal for the mule near to the rocker cover gasket (some VVT thing I think) and Tufty helped me attach my new auto dimming mirror. Can't wait for it to get dark to try it out!!

Also swapped my new armrest lid for a secondhand one I got on eBay because it matches the existing leather much better. Unfortunately though, because it was a bit old it rattled on bumpy roads from the rear hinges on the road test so I shoved a load of blu-tac inside the hinge recesses and it's now perfect (and you can't see the blu-tac either). Good day today!

I need to know more about the dimming mirror. How much where from and hard to fit?

I got a blowtorch set it on fire and let it burn it's self to nothing. May have lost my rag a bit.

lol, a bit overkill!-) as usual suspected 10 min job takes over an hour after trying to crack caliper nuts then shearing off brake disc screw, then bleeding brake!! removed brake disc then beat it to pieces with a screw driver then after struggling for 10min with sand paper i gave in and got the dremmel and extension lead out used a grinding tool to clean all the rust off and it fell in... then reset with vcds.

The drive back home from the unit was a revelation!... I can't believe I left it this long lol... parked her up in front of the S3 for a sneaky pic of the fleet :)
IMAG0747.jpg

Just need to get the top mounts done but tbh that can wait... I think I will replace all the front bushes, ball joints and clean up the suspension arms all in one go... should last another 100k at least lol

more importantly, any idea when you will get the cams and go for the magic 500hp?

Fitted front H&R arb, new drop links, solid subframe bushes, new steering rack boots and steering rack poly mount. Did wheel balancing and alignment and got a speeding fine on the way home :(
Its my first one since owning the S3, so not too bad. Just hate giving my money back to the government!!!

what arb are you running at the back to use a h and r front?
or is it that you were fitting this having already fitted a h and r rear?

Fitted rear H&R arb and drop links last weekend in my driveway. Was surprised how easy it was. Did the complete job in an hour. The front was a pain in the **** as the steering rack did not want to locate into the holes. The ARB was getting in the way. Ended up grinding down the little nutsert that protrudes out of the steering rack mount to locate the rack into the subframe. Not sure if its the same issue for RHD as it is for LHD.

Yeah... its the same issue... R32/23mm ARB when bolted on won't allow the rack to sit under it and catches the dowel... I leave the ARB bracket undone so I can lift the ARB to get the rack in place and refit the bracket after... PITA with the short bolts they use so I have used a longer bolt before to pull the bracket in

I had a go in this today! Basically a brand spanking new 8V S3 Sportback, 2 days old with 59 miles on the clock! It's quite an amazing machine, lets be honest! Definitely makes the 8L feel oldskool!, but @£40k for this particular car, I'm not going to be buying one any time soon!

If you use the 21mm R32 bar it all fits, just, no need to undo the bar to fit the rack etc

Who's is that joe?

Retro-fitted the armrest today! Just went out for a test drive and its great. Love it. Need to give it a clean/polish/feed (along with the rest of the interior) to blend the lid in a bit more and shine it up a bit. Will do that next week after my trip to Bill's.

Just how i want my interior to look in the end but cant find the alancantra blue interior to buy no where :keule: looks really good mate :applaus:.
