8V S3 Akrapovic on it's way.

Did you get my mail?
Obviously your work address so not sure if I caught you before you left or not...
& It seems that the mail on here is knackered at the moment..

Wont get much change from £4k for that system!

Akrapovic, wow the ultimate, beautifully made but I just cant imagine the price.

I'd love to hear the Akra once it's fitted :)

If you go on their website and look for the Mk7 Golf GTI exhaust you will find before and after fitting soundbites.

I can't imagine it will sound much different to this, perhaps a little more sporty... Sounds pretty nice :)

could you send link please? I cannot seem to find it.

Like comparing a Michelin star restaurant and a Frankie and Bennys...

Don't always associate cost with either performance or value for money.
I have had Akras on many motorcycles and they used to be both really well made and gave better performance than almost all others but at a very high price, other manufacturers have moved on significantly (both in quality and performance) and most match the Akra gains at significantly reduced costs. Certainly on 2 wheels there has been a real shift away from Akras and most are now simply badges to show how much money people have rather than based on the actual performance improvement made.

Motor manufacturers have greatly improved their standard exhausts so getting gaines is now no where near as easy, Akra absolutely make a lovely product but given all you see on a car is the exit pipes and the S3 probably already has enough horsepower already, for me it would hard to justify spending (although I can afford it) the asking price of Akra.

Gonna be pricey as I have just got a quote for the B8 RS4 thats coming to me to get get supercharged..................and for that it was £4848 with discount so RRP should be about £5.3k.............OUCH!!!

Interesting that the MK7 GTI system is actually a full TBE. Akra hasn't really been famous for that in the past. Almost all of the time it's been a slip on exhaust.

I've never really understood the definition of a "slip on exhaust" for a car :/

Surely you either have a catback, a downpipe or a TBE?

EDIT:
Looks like Akra call their catbacks "slip ons" and their full exhausts "evolution systems". Appears to be some sort of throwback to their bike heritage... just confusing really...

Anyone have any news on this? They still working on a system?

A friend of mine emailed Akrapovic to ask about it.
They said there is nothing in development yet and there are no plans at the moment for it.

:(

5k buy's you a very, very nice TIG welder and loads of stainless steel tubing, bends are readily available to buy on ebay and i am sure that even a novice will do a decent job at putting an exhaust together ! Call me old fashion but britain used to be a DIY nation, the more you use tools the better you become at it !

That's all very well but akra is titanium not stainless steel hence why its not so easy for the budding diy enthusiast, it's also why they charge 5k

Gotta love akra.. I had carbon race can on my R6 top quality product!!

You can buy titanium tubing from China for under a grand for enough material to do an exhaust + a decent AC/DC tig welder will weld Titanium just as well ! By all means, i have a decent Thermal Arc AC/DC welder and i will give it a try ! The rest of the money will go pretty well towards another mods on the car + i will have the satisfaction of doing it all myself ! After all, what's wrong with 316 Stainless ? Looks just as good like Ti and does not tarnish + welds beautifully + filler rods are cheap... Each to their own I suppose !

A few years ago i was doing business with a titanium exhaust supplier in China, i was actually communicating with them about doing a prototype for my S3... weird this thread came along!.
Looking at £900-£1400 tops for a full titanium cat back which would weigh ****** all.

I asked Akrapovic again. They confirmed that NO exhaust System for 8VS is in developement and even not planned.
I asked Eisenmann and Meisterschaft too - same result :(

That's what I said.

Sorry, are you suggesting it would make MORE sense to take £5,000 and spend it on shipping in titanium from China, buying a welder, learning to weld and manufacturing your own exhaust?

Yes, i am actually doing that ! It seems to me you people got more money than sense ! I would not spend half that much what you quoted and i will do a good enough job !
