I have a A4, 2.0TDI 140 S-Line B7 Auto

I put £20 in and got 112 miles averaging 30mpg... From a diesel driving around town lots of stop start etc is that what it should be or not?

I'm awaiting arrival of my new wiper stalk so i can see what the computer is saying,

To get a more accurate reading i've brimmed the tank with Shell Nitro Diesel (at a cost of £81 :O ) and see what happens. what concerns me is that it says i have 435 miles DTE from 70 litres again what should i realistically be getting as the Audi figures suggest i should be getting more, car is running sweet but is my first Auto and i've read running costs can be more in the Auto.
 
My old 2.0tdi 140 b7 multitronic 7 spd gearbox was great on long runs but town driving was dreadful. Went from Birmingham to Dover, Dunkirk to Amsterdam, drove around there and back was about 800-850 miles, managed to do that on a tank, just. 2 people, small suitcase, subwoofer, spare tyre, and air ride management all in the boot still.

My 2.0tdi 170 with 6spd manual box, stage 1 map with performance filter (roughly 210-215bhp) is good in town driving, motorways without that 7th gear is abit worse but not far off from my old avant.
 
Yeah i got that 7spd auto box... So it would be worth going for a Remap to squeeze those extra miles out the tank round town? The majority of my driving is town driving but with the cost of insurance for me the audi is £1200 a year any petrol at all is £2500 + a year.... Bit crazy.

30 sounds about right in town with stop start. Considering 1 you got a auto, 2 the 140 isnt the most "powerful" of the diesels so heavy body small engine effect, 3 cold external temps = killer for diesel vehicles, 4 using the heater while the engine is ice cold another fuel killer.

But just as a side note based on the assumption of £81 @120.9 435miles with 70 litres works out to roughly 30 mpg. What I noticed in my vehicle is if say my mpg is 10 I notice my range will adapt to that rather than the amount of fuel in the tank so what i do is when I fill up the vehicle I clear all the screens. IE mpg, avg mpg, avg speed etc.

Then my range changes from say 300 to around 450. Thou my vehicle is a petrol but I would assume the same principle applies as its all the same software really.
 
Basic figures around town this time of year for my 140 2.0tdi show 38mpg, in the summer i ran to france, did quite a bit of driving there, which being france meant allot of motorways, saw 800 miles to a full tank! The range goes up loads on the motorway compared to around town

You meant to drive it like you stole it. mpg chasers are for the diesel fan bois :icon thumright: I dont think us petrol people are aloud in this post :eek:

Haha i've seen it at 18mpg on a lairy day, the diesel can be fun too
 
Only 18? I seen single figures lol

My daily is a C250 cdi merc it is good fun I wont deny that.
 
Lol 18's bad on a car that easily averages 30, and i have a heavy foot, anyway- topic.....................................................Where we are

I need to get the onboard computer activated all i have is DTE atm.

Useful info here, not that I'm likely to turn it off but what do you estimate heating on and ice cold weather would decrease the mpg by?
 
It all depends really id say a factor of 5 to 7% overall - temperature based

2 Other facts if you want to be a bit more scientific.

1: Colder air is denser, which increases aero dynamic drag on your vehicle especially motorway speeds. Yes intake temps stay cool and nice for turbo vehicles but you have more resistance in colder air than hot air.
2 Winter grades of fuel can have slightly less energy per litre than summer blends which just basically means it has a lower BTU content. So yet another thing that will cause a change in MPG. Most people don't even know the fuel changes during colder temps.

Basically anything chewing power on a ice cold motor/engine is putting more strain IE heated seats.

That is why I always advice people to drive the vehicle rather than letting it idle for long periods of time as idling gets you 0 mpg. But driving does :)

Just a side note in my Merc daily that was mentioned to prove a point Aug 2014 during the nice warm days I avg nothing less than 38-45 mpg in town. I am struggling to get more than 31 avg even with slower driving in the winter and I have 17 inch winter tyres on as too 18 inch full fat 255/35 rubber. So even the smaller and narrow tyre has done nothing. Technically the vehicle would be worse off with the 18s but the impact on cold has more than the small margin of gain the tyres would give.

I hit 66.3 mpg on a 25 mile trip home in my 1.9tdi on tues.50-55mpg is the norm at 70-75 mph.always find it easier on fuel if i don't use the cruise control.
 
I get 30-32mpg round town and my 12 mile commute to work in my re-mapped 3.0tdi quattro.
I prefer to zero the miles at every fuel stop and work out exactly what I'm doing to the gallon for a more accurate calculation.
Whoever says diesels aren't fun have never owned one, I rarely get taken out at a set of traffic lights, especially in this weather:)

It seems its my wife that can regularly manage 50-55mpg in our 140 TDI. Am convinced it has something to do with her having smaller feet !

OK.....she does have to do daily motorway runs in it to.

2.0L TDI 170 QUATTRO I PUT £20 AND I GET 120 ON TRIP, I USUALLY GET 80-90 BEFORE HAVING TO FILL UP,
 
On my old s-line tdi 140 I got around 40mpg around town. £20 got me quite far..... Now £20 gets me hardly anything... This my highest mpg in this car....

£81 fill up with nitro diesel done 300 miles DTE shows 150 left... 450 miles for £81... Good job i've met someone who can supply me diesel by the barrell lol!
 
First try in my 1.9tdi this is the highest I have got, on a trip home from work around 30 miles, avg 69.9mpg,
Finished on 710 miles to a tank,

I was a little sad to say it was reading 800 at fill up,
My aim is to get it to the 800 mark,

I have a 2007 2.0 tdi cab. Get 500 out of a tank of shell nitro diesel. The Car is superchips bluefin remapped.

Mixed motorway/a road commute with a mixed driving style. ;-)
 
Remapped 140 tdi...... even on motorway based trip, i'll normally struggle to see more than 600-650 miles out of a full tank in mine
 
I get 20 mpg at the minute. I sit in traffic a lot in both directions of my commute, and I have a V8
 
The 2.0t's do not like sitting still......city stop start stuff provides you with a horrendous mileage. A road & Motorway cruising returns a surprisingly healthy MPG.

I get an average of 40mpg on my 65 miles daily commute on dual carriageway, A roads, country lanes and city driving.
If I get stuck behind a lorry or a slow poke I can get up to 45mpg.
Not too bad from the 3.0tdi
 
my 3.2 v6 cab gets 34mpg on the motorway at 70. Drops to about 31mpg at 85mph. Round town its about 20mpg. Monthly average is 25 mpg.

More thank happy with that to be honest.
 
A4 2.0 quattro tdi re-mapped 204bhp 18" alloys - everytime when fill up - around 600 miles (mainly miss daily drive ) ... I done a trip to Bulgaria 6000 km and avarage was 40 mpg on cruice with 80mph
 
Have been doing economy drive this week...managed to squeeze out 41.2 mpg on daily trip to work including country roads as well as town traffic and bypasses...and the other week when in town was getting 35.2 mpg...so not bad really.

£20 gets me 230 miles £60 to fill on diesel nitro + and that gets me almost 1000 miles, i can do lincoln to norwich and back on a quarter of a tank or, Lincoln to liverpool then upto colne and back to lincoln on quarter of a tank. as for MPG ive not a clue how to work it out but im not too fussed as i know its alot lol
 
£20 gets you 230 miles

£60 gets you 1000 miles?

Now, i'm no mathematician........ but..........

I got 44.1 mpg on 800 miles trip to Poland in my 3.0 tdi. Average speed throug Germany around 100 miles.
 
07 avant 140 tdi with dtuk box on it, mixed driving (inc, hoofing it most days, lol) on mixed roads just got me 275 mile out of £30 i worked it out at around 49 mpg, that was taking it right to the bottom of the fuel gauge with only 10 miles left on the trip comp from just under half a tank,
