ok guys, i'm new, but i've been reading posts here for a while already and always found my questions so i didnt need to register.
but couldnt find this so i'm asking now.

i purchased a fbmfsw from 8v and i'm trying to retrofit on my 8p3.
today trying to assemble, realized the harness connector from the airbag was not fitting...

is there a way to make it work?
do you know if its worth to try to repin the connector from the harness, or if there is a way to replace the G85.

please tell me someone knows about this, or has already done this mod.

thanks in advance

here's an update of what i've been trying to do.

tried to re-pin the conector, using my old airbag housing for the cable.
it was super difficult to get the cables out, but at the end got it all safe.

found out what was each cable for, and placed each of the new cables on the old housing in the position they were meant to.
So, by then everything was "ok"
i left the airbag for the end so i didnt plug those yet.

now, plug it on the clockspring and connect the vagcom and try to set the coding.

my original coding was 0010012, and according to vagcom, the new steering wheel should be 0012112 (because of adding the mfsw and triptronic), BUT then the error pops up "Code rejected error 31: Request out of range"

so i think the problem is the Control Module, that is not made to work with multifunctions, or is there something i need to modify somewhere,
can someone help me with that?

since now the cable is supposed to be the same as the old one i thought plugging it was gonna work fine, but it doesnt.

here is the scan of my steering wheel:

Tuesday,23,September,2014,14:42:26:37920
VCDS Version: Release 12.12.2 (x64)

Address 16: Steering wheel Labels: 1K0-953-549-MY8.lbl
Control Module Part Number: 1K0 953 549 DB HW: 1K0 953 549 DB
Component and/or Version: J0527 037 0070

Work Shop Code: WSC 06314 000 00000
VCID: 75EA01A21C5516B6B81-8020
No fault code found.

since unplugging the pins from the housing was so hard and i already had to leave, i decided to keep the wheel placed without any connection other than the horn for some days till i go back to the mechanic. this is how it looks like.

is my problem the module control? in that case, whats the module control i need,
i've been looking on ross-tech and and there is a HUGE list of modules with different types, softwares, lines, versions, etc.

mine was a 'midline' so as i far as i read, midlines dont allow multifunction.

1k0953549-DB is type 2, sw 0070, midline and doesnt show any 'LIN' version.

do i need to look for another module with the same specs, just 'highline'? i am a little confused and need some help.
if that is the case i mentioned above, i cant find cuz all the type2/sw 0070 that are highline, have LIN version 1.3

what is the regular module number that comes with most of the 2010 8p with MFSW (btw my car is an 8p sportback 2010 1.4tfsi)

So you've tried to fit a 8V wheel to your 8P without even checking your control module first? Your module won't work with an 8P MFSW let alone an 8V one! And then you're driving round without your airbag connected?

Don't think anyone has tried this mod as yet, but if anybody knows about how/if it can work, it'd be @NHN I would assume.

Wheel looks lovely however.

looks like haha. i'll tell you the story, i was looking for the TT 8J fbsw, because of the looks, and of course the paddle shifts (my main reason), but then after some weeks of looking and looking found this gorgeous wheel and my eyes got stucked on that... i knew the 8J wheel would fit plug and play (anyways i didnt know about the control module, i was gonna have that problem anyways), but i dont know why in my mind i thought the 8V would fit, at the beginning i didnt even know it was from the 8V till i got it. i'd sell it and but the 8J wheel, BUT 1. this wheel is gorgeous and the paddles are amazing, and 2. i live in Peru and i have zero chances of selling the wheel over here and it will sit in my garage for months/years, and i dont wanna 'lose' almost 1k and spend another 1k in the new wheel, and also it was a pain in the *** to try to get someone shipping the airbag all the way to here. thats why i at least wanna really try to fit it.

So now after making the cable 'fit' i realized my control module was not made to support multifunctions, bummer...

for now the airbag is unplugged till i go to the mechanic sometime this week.

so for now i just wanna know what do i need to make that 'multifunction' work, i will try it as it was another 8P MFSW, at least have only the paddle shifts which is what i care.

still possitive about this :) if someone can get NHN to help me? :p cuz some other people have told me to ask him for help

thanks anyways to everyone! looking forward to get this done!

yesterday i was checking random a3 on instagram, and found this!! someone posted a picture of one 8P with the same steering wheel, so this mod HAS to be possible! :O it gave me some hope on this
IMG_0039.png

It looks good. Good luck!

I guess that if it's possible to fit that 8V steering wheel, it should be easy to install this beauty in our beloved 8P :D

hi guys, no more updates because my car hates me, and everything related to it has been going wrong or a pain in the ***.

first, i bought some mint Bi-Xenon headlights for cheap on ebay, and when they got here, there was a new rule by customs, that used car parts are not allowed anymore, so i'm fighting so they let me keep the headlights and that has been consuming most of my time.

and then, i am super afraid, my PRNDS dashboard started flashing... i'll try changing the gearbox oil today, because i think the previous owner didnt give a ****... and i didnt know that. lets hope thats the problem.. ortherwise i'll be ******.
i dont wanna spend 1.5k on the ECU or changing the multritronics...

so, because of that, my steering wheel project is on stand-by, i still need to buy the new Module Control to see if it works, and that is not easy to find where i live :(

thanks for reading, i'll post any updates!

Hey!
I'm trying to fit this Wheel in my 8P 2004, From scratch I had LOWLINE ECU. my information about this is you need a steering Wheel module with LIN 2.0 to work with the new buttons. all old highline ECU have LIN 1.3.

Does someone know if 8P0953549K have LIN 2.0 or just LIN 1.3?

The new buttons have 2 setups, one of them is highline buttons and the other one is lowline, on that instagram Picture he have Lowline buttons, and they work because they have light!

I don't know if Lowline communicate with 1.3 LIN and maybe Highline buttons with 2.0 LIN.

I have installed the new steering wheel in my car, I have Highline Buttons and they are not working at all, I have tried with OLD buttons and they work (buttons with thumb wheel for 8P), they just need proper coding.
and one thing I have not tried is lowline buttons for the 8V steering wheel.

Now I know for sure that old 8P thumb wheel buttons communicate with LIN 1.3 And New Highline buttons communicate with LIN 2.0. because my first gen steering wheel module (ECU) highline I bought for this only have LIN 1.3

So what about the Lowline buttons?

The things I need is 8P0953549K or I need just new Lowline buttons, and I don't want to spend money on a 8P0953549K to see its not working, or spend money on that expensive lowline buttons if that not working either.

Regards

Sweden

Hi there, I havn't got confirmed that 8P0953549K supports LIN 2.0 yet, but i tried to order one 8P0953549K but i dont know if i will get it, it's pay upon pick-up from poland. so maybe next week if im lucky!

Looks like a new car with this steering Wheel, i like singing to Pharrell Williams - Happy when im driving with the gear S ;)

what year is your car? you could buy this Wheel and try it out, if you just test it with your old airbag still connected.. can you see in VCDS what module and what LIN it supports?

hey there guys, i'm waiting to get the module 8P0953549K and then try it

after that, the vcds coding is easy, so i keep my fingers crossed.

my car is 2010, built 9/2009. if the car is built before 5/2009 if might use the F ending for the module asfar as i know

Hello,
I think Im going to try this, I already have the S3 FBMFSW as it is and the 8P0 953 549 K steering controller, So maybe it could be a straight swap with the 8V S3 wheel.

I hope one of us get this done, think it would look the dogs when fitted and working correctly.

Cheers Dan

I have the exact same problem .. Looking for months and months for a FB MFSW and i found an awesome looking brand new one bought it straight away to then find out it is from a later model hance looking so much better then the 8P One. So let me get this right you have fitted the wheel but the Air bag, Controls, And DSG Paddles don't work? So you are just driving the car as an Auto at the moment? .. Dan

I have 8V steering Wheel and airbag, it fits, Steering Wheel and airbag works! But our problem is the steering Wheel buttons.. don't forget to fix this steering wheel with lowline buttons to make all functions work proper.

Why my buttons aint working is because my car is '04 and got the old TYPE 1 steering wheel module (I think) and TYP2 steering wheel modules in the beginning also don't have LIN 2.0 communication, before '08?

dandav1985 don't forget the XZN12 tool when you take your steering wheel out, take off battery as well!

This sounds promising, so it looks like it'll be a straight swap with my 2010 S3? Happy days. Just need to find a 8V S3 steering wheel with the paddles now. One without the red stitching.

Cheers Dan

somehow, yes. but learning from my mistakes i'll give you some advices.
get an audi s4 b8 steering wheel, those have the perfect control buttons (the one without side arrows on the left top button) and you wont have any problem. you can swap the badge easily.
also try to find a compatible airbag with dual detonators, as far i read, the b8 also uses 2 detonators.

Hello,

I already have the 8P S3 Flat bottom Multi Fuction on my S3, so The 8V S3 one is the one that I have set my heart on as far as im aware my S3 steering wheel only has one detonator anyway. So fingers crossed.

***EDIT*** now looking at the S4 steering I see what you mean......Cheers for the heads up

Cheers Dan

my airbag is not working since the one i got uses just one detonator. i need to set up the airbag with vag com for single stage.
if you find a dual stage you will save all those troubles.

for the paddles and buttons the work because of the module, it has to be a highline ecu module, 8P0953549K for 2010+ models, or 8P0953549F for 2009- models

i'm learning all this the hard way...

Okay, What you say is that you want LOWLINE buttons, not HIGHLINE buttons with Arrows on the top!

And i thought all Audi A3/S3 had 1 stage airbags? because i have 1 stage and Dan also got 1 stage.

You can see this on the yellow connector behind the ecu module, 2 pins is 1detonator and 4 pins is 2 detonators..
You maybe have wrong airbag harness?

Have you tried it with 8P0953549K and does it work?

here is a picture of my car (soon with navigaton plus)

ughh :( lucky you!! i want my wheel all funtional now!!
my original airbag was dual stage. but i'm not worried from that side yet.

about the highlines, well i meant about the ecu module according to what i read oh rosstech
  • Variant
    • Lowline: No additional Options/Features
    • Midline: Cruise Control, Board Computer
    • Highline: Cruise Control, Board Computer, Multi-Function Steering Whee
so all mfsw need a highline ecu. in my case my car had a midline, so there was no comunication with the buttons and the coding was rejected by the ecu.

so i bought the 8P0953549K, and i'm waiting to someone to bring me the part from the US.

here is why i think yours might be F and not K ;)
http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/steering-module-k-or-f-or-neither.120328/

some more info about modules
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions

Okay thanks! That info was necessary about F and K with different types of steering angle sensors :)
I know it must be highline..
haha, difference between mid and high is that highline have LIN communication!

Old cars like mine have LIN 1.3 (only Highline), and newer from '09 have LIN 1.3 & 2.0 (only Highline).
2.0 is a upgrade that can read the new "codes" from the new buttons :)

Audi maybe want old cars to be upgraded, I don't know otherwise why they do it like this because original steering wheel in '09 A3 8P don't need the LIN 2.0 function!

Maybe your airbag been switched sometime? I don't understand how you can have dual stage :/ that's weird!
I think you should check the yellow connector on the back of your Steering Wheel Module if its 2 or 4 cables!

Here is one thing that confuses me.. When I called to my VAG in Sweden they told me K was the new thing listed for my car,
They didn't say F they certainly said K module, I don't remember if I told them my car number tho"!

and it was quite expensive.... like WOW!
(i wont buy it from VAG)

Edit: There is no info what so ever on this whole internet thing, that makes me wanna pull my hair off!
I'm aware about wiki ross, that's where all started.. if they just did a list off all 8P0 modules, that would be so much easier for all! but, When we get this **** sorted out then we done the hard way for all other!

So the module ending in F was for cars up to 2008, that was then superseded to the K version which took away the separate steering angle sensor and incorporated it into 1. so if you have a separate steering angle sensor (2004-2008) then you need the F. If you have a car newer than that you would need the K.

Yee, the steering angle sensor is in another place on the newer cars! Not together with steering wheel module anymore, the newer A3 '09 can have parking assist, right?

I just paid for my 8P0953549F module, he said it will be shipped tomorrow so I am close now, very close!
It will take about 3 days for me to receive it. when it's fitted I will go and grab VCDS to code my new foglights, cruise control, DIS & Steering wheel buttons ASAP! I really hope the F module is the right one for me.
I maybe give you some sexy video of my buttons in action ;)

I have put the F module in the car now, did some coding and it still doesn't work.. cant get the steering angle sensor to work either, is there something I have forgot to do and must do when changing this module?
do I need another slipring?

This is installed

8P0953549F Module
1K0959653C Slipring

i purchased just in case a combo of slipring + module
1K0959653D + 8P0953549K for MY2010

finally found someone coming from the states that can bring this for me, then ill try it and tell you guys if its working

Can't take long before you have this mounted on your car Fernando, you need to tell me right away if your Highline buttons on your steering wheel is lighting up or/and with working thumbwheels! :)

I am looking at the back of my slip ring C and compare it to the D model on Pictures and it look identical with the slip ring sensor tabs,
Just some difference with the mounting frame around the steering angle sensor.

My old 8P thumbwheel buttons are working proper with both A & C slipring module.. So slipring D, I dont think it will solve my button problem, are they some special codings you need to do like adaptation or so? maybe tell to the car what type of buttons are installed?

Are you guys sure 8P0953549F module supports LIN 2.0 communication and not just LIN 1.3? or does just Lowline Buttons support LIN 2.0 and Highline buttons maybe speaking with something else, or with a higher LIN that F & K don't support?

no clue yet :( i'll find out next week. otherwise i'll have too look for lowline buttons too
(well, just if the paddles are not working, they're the only thing i want)

Just got my lowline buttons installed! Both thumbscrolls are working gr8, but the other buttons maybe need some adaptation i think, ill give you some pictures and videos on it!

Hello guys!

I now have my 8V Steering Wheel installed, actually its better for you to buy the A4 8K Steering Wheel, because they have the Lowline buttons you need. the 8V Steering Wheel comes with Highline buttons.
(there is more cars than A4 8K with Lowline)

My car is a 04' 8P Lowline from scratch, i have installed steering Wheel module 8P0953549F and if you want your steering angle sensor to work you need the Slipring D.

If your car is with the newer angle sensor witch is not lokated behind the steering wheel, i dont Think you need to change your Slipring, because steering Wheel buttons are working with slipring A, C & D. The Slipring D needs a new type of airbag harness!
(this is for those who have 08' and forward)

Highline Buttons will NOT work at all, and Lowline Buttons will work with steering Wheel module 8P0953549F and 8P0953549K,

Here is how they give signals:

Thumb left: Up/Down Working!
Thumb Right: Up/Down Working!
Buttons: 0001/0010/0100/1000

0001: Next/FastForward Working!
0010: Not Used (mode)
0100: Not Used (voice control)
1000: Not Used (mute)

(I don't have the paddles on my steering Wheel so I don't know if they work or which code they are using)

If someone know how to tweak this codings, get in touch!! should be really nice if someone make the Mode and Mute buttons to work!
(maybe change the RNS-E to use 0010 to change source for example)
