Decided its time for one but found selecting one a bit of a minefield. Read the stickies and that gave me a sore head tbh I want to keep my fogs but not sure what core is best suited. I don't plan spending a lot so I'm guessing I need to buy a core then purchase pipe kit separate. What pipe size is recommended for retaining fogs?

Thanks lavis. Any recommendations for a core with 63mm inlet/outlet

When searching the forum I keep reading about people fitting the welly cooler, does this core come with 63mm?

Agreed, there is way to much FMIC info in the stickys to make sense of...

I've used one of these on my k300 hybrid A3:
http://www.toyosports.co.uk/fmic-ffront-mount-turbo-intercooler-type-r-550x225x64mm-6699-955-p.asp

I also removed the air conditioning condenser to allow me to sit the cooler back a bit, which meant no crash bar trimming and kept fogs AND grills:

All my pipe work was from MrSilicone and AutoSiliconeHoses... I think they're the same entity anyway

Couldn't comment on the welly cooler, not something i've ever really looked into... But I believe this is the basis for the welly cooler:

Could be wrong though...

To be honest mate its all in the stickies... 63mm pipe tucked into the bottom of the bumper will retain fogs and grilles, welly cooler is 76mm outlets but there are ones available with 63mm outlets... problem with the welly collers in general is they sit the outlets a little too high... people can generally retain the fogs but lose the grilles with these...

There are loads of installs in the FMIC thread and while I know its a bit of a read you should find a setup that suits what you want to do and then go from there

AH Fabrications V2 is the one that fits the most OE with least amount of modding... Airtec kits are starting to show on the market now and these seem ok too...welly coolers will always need a little more effort to fit and the finish varies depending on attention to detail and skill level

Thanks for the input vag slag plus tuffty. Decided ebay cooler is best suited for me mainly because it's cheapest. If after installation I can't retain grills then I'll either live with it or consider removing ac condenser. I'll report back :)

not sure removing the ac condensor will help at all with room.
also go for the toyosport one in the link that vag slag posted as i heard some of the ebay cores were not flowing so well.

I'm sure removing the air conditioning condenser does 100% help with room...

Try getting a 2.5" cooler to fit like above without removing condenser... Granted you have to trim the plastic front end for inlets/outlets but it allows you to sit the cooler back by at least an inch

If I can find a toyosports core with 63mm outlets then I will go for that.

you will have to excuse my lack of knowledge as i explain what i mean lol
ive removed my ac and behind the cooler there is an empty gap now
problem is there is a f4ame which holds things such as headlights etc and cutting didnt look wise
the cooler was wider than the frame so just cutting the bottom for the pipe outlets wouldnt work you would lose lots of the frame to fit that cooler

the one in your link has 76mm outlets bud

I confused the thickness with the outlet size. I was under the impression outlets were 76mm. :dejection:

the toyosport cooler with 63mm outlets is too small for the s3

there are a few coolers on ebay with right size core and outlets but like i say they didnt flow well
just so you know
id stick with something proven but your shout bud

Sorry see, what you're saying about the cooler being bigger than the plastic frame...

Also, what makes you say this cooler is "too small" for the S3? . . I run one with a k300 hybrid which flows more than a k04 and it deals with AIT's NICELY! :icon thumright:

You gotta remember that these larger 76mm coolers are overkill if anything, some of the most powerful cars on the forum run them!

That 550x225 is exactly what I'm after. Fairly priced as well. Cheers dude

ah fair enough
i suppose it depends on your future set up?
plus that cooler would be loads easier to fit lol

I opted for the Wellycooler at 600x300x100 but wanted to keep my grilles (not fussed about fogs) so decided to go custom.
So I brought the Toyosport Cooler and selection of pipework.
I then had the cooler custom fabricated. The 76mm exits where cut off, new flared exits with 63mm alloy pipework welded on.
Just fits snug.
