Noticed the heating element isn't working this morning.

Cheapest one on eBay is £165! Is there a cheaper place to source these?

Can these be fixed? Will it be a break in the heating element or might it be the spade terminals corroding?

Last year the other side went which was replaced under warranty.

I am in the same boat, my passenger mirror has lost it's heating function! I take it that people forget to switch them off and the element burns out?

That was certainly the way of things about 15 years ago, but I'd hope that even at that time, Audi variants had thermostat protection, been there done that with a B5 Passat, it was only when I read about this problem on US sites that I thought "oh bother!" but that thought came too late. I first had that function on a VX Cav GSI 4X4, it only allowed for mirror heating when the (timed) rear screen demister was active, so coming from that to the VAG set-up of that time, I quickly trashed the heater tapes. Find them switched on on wife's Polo now and again, but so far, caught them in time.

I leave mine on all the time. The last car did 4 years 42,000 miles without issues.

I wondered about this this morning, I've just upgraded to a b8 a4 from a b7 10days ago and wondered how you turn off the heated mirrors? Is it just switch it to the left or right rather than leaving it in the middle? I even consulted the manual but didn't say how you turned them off ?

I was under the impression they only turned on when the temperatures drops below a certain level. 5 degrees?

Anyhow, the glass is really easy to pop out, just be careful you don't crack the glass.

I think the miserable bit for the OP is the cost of the auto-dimming units. Trouble is if they only work below 5C I'd hope that it is 5C measured on the mirror glass and not at the bumper, as when you get a cold night(so dried air) and then drive through a slightly warmer area (with wet air), that is when the mirrors suddenly mist up for me, a quick jab of heat and I can see behind me again.

Bump.

Heating has just stopped working on my drivers side mirror, and it also has the auto anti-dazzle feature. Did anyone ever find a place to buy these? Plenty on eBay which are heated, but none that I can find with the anti-dazzle as well.

I've been after one for ages my drivers side had been replaced with a non anti-dazzle glass before I bought it.

Given the lack of response, I may have to bite the bullet and get from the dealer. Although I am not certain its the mirror at fault, could be the wiring.....

Not sure about these but on the older vw cars you could check if the element was burnt out by doing a continuity test across the 2 pins with a multi meter

Excuse my ignorance, but how exactly would I do this? I have a multimeter. Thanks.

Set the multi meter. Usually has a little speaker type symbol beside it. Google multi meter dial symbol if your not sure.
When you touch the 2 probes it should make 3 buzzing sound. Same wil happen when you probe the 2 pins on the mirror if the element is good

Did you end up buying a new one or was it a wiring fault? I need a new glass (current one is not anti glare and a very annoying imbalance).
