is it just me or has anyone else notice that you don't see many B6's on the roads nowadays ? have most of them been scrapped or stripped for parts as they hit the £1000 price range and the kids are buying them and smashing the up ?

ok, i get my rain coat on...................
 
do you know i was thinking just the opposite last weekend as i saw quite a few, probably a testament to the build quality
 
I asked a similar question on this thread a few months ago: "How many B6's do you think remain"? Some replied saying they still see many, and that they are not yet 'rare' which I'd agree with -though they are nowhere near as common as they were back in 2004 for example

-what I meant was, how many remain as a percentage of the total UK registered during production. Now that the model is over 10 years old, many will be over 100k miles, smashed up (as mentioned by Turkster) or long scrapped.

So what do we think? Have we outlasted 50%? Down to the last 30%? 20%?

Me.. I reckon 25% remain based on what I see, and what you might have seen back in 2003/2004.
 
Yer I see a lot around here, I was even in a B6 sandwich on the A1 the other day, a black Avant in front and a red saloon behind me
 
By the way the parts prices are going up Audi themselves seem to think they are "classics":)
 
Yer i had a Harrier when I was 18, great car would love another one or Mexico.
 
They can be high maintenance so the time might come when current value doesn't justify running costs.I have thought the time may come when the cost of a belts change on my 2.5tdi might be put off a bit longer or the money put to a replacement .

I know what you mean but the B6 is still the best looking Avant, I will run mine now untill I have to break it
 
I agree with above comment,best looking avant around today,still!
mind u i did see a new jag estate,looked nice,1st thought,it looked like a b6 :)

Id say i see a handfull if that,a week.
 
I know of a 2004/04 Avant, 2.0 petrol for sale. In Ming Blue (I think that is the correct colour).

There is 4 A4 B6 Avants in my village (including the one for sale)

I think it will depend on how many want to stay with the simple style rather than the weird shapes you see now.At least there is an option now compared to the days when everything rusted around you.
 
I have about 5 scrap yards in my area and in the 3 years of ownership of my B6 i have never seen a B6 in the yard for spares.
 
After only having my Wifes B6 S4 Cab 10 months which i call the money pit I'm not ready to get shot of if yet,thats only if i can get it off her.

Same here, I'll plan to run mine till it turns its toes up, absolutely knocks the spots off a brand new Peugeot at work (mind you, what wouldn't!!), drives better than a lot of others too..
Still several round here too...
 
I'm another where it looks like 'Til death does us part' is the way my ownership will end. However, knowing me, I'll just spend the cash and get it fixed up it if I can. lol

Unless I win the lottery and end up with an RS6 that is. :)
 
I may also be in this boat. especially since my steering wheel is on the "wrong" side here in Finland. I'd take my 13 year old A4 quattro over anything else I could buy with the same money here. I can't actually imagine driving anything 2WD without a fun engine here, especially in winter :D
 
you guys are sounding like my mind, I just cant seem to want to get rid of it, id most prob get about £2k for my car if i sold it, if i was lucky, but I just love the growl of the 2.5 TDi V6 raw as i pull off in it, its like an monster coming to life and when that massive Turbo kicks in, well its all over for the rest of the people on the road! GONE !
 
I'm eating them, ask my insurance company for more information.

Nah to be fair I haven't killed any although mine's been smashed and fixed more than 5 times now, mostly not my fault and no cat C/D status at the moment... although it was hit again Friday haha.

Had a b6 can when I was on here before, LOTS of money spent on it, every retrofit possible, got sod all for it when it went
Still see a few cabs about but not many b6 saloons nowadays

They're all in Newcastle!! Cheap and four rings = the Geordies will have em.

I find mine slow! - I always get rinsed by mates 1.8T Quattro - when head to head with my missus Megane 225, I get good and properley shown a clean pair of heels :)

was in the scrapyard yesterday and the guy gave me the answer , he had 1 B6 :audibash:, they are all going over to Russia ,:tocktock:
that would explain why most dash cam videos from there are full of Audi's !
 
I see a fair few on the roads still these days. I'll be keeping mine as long as I can, hopefully many more years still left in it.

Hi dan, not commenting on this post but I can't find the one I was looking at yesterday. It was the one where you replaced the speaker behind the dash for the lights on and seat belt buzz. You said about posting one for £3. I know it's s long time ago but don't suppose you still got any?
 
Yep, I reckon most will start disappearing quickly now due to maintenance costs.
Im pretty certain mine would be at the great scrap-yard in the sky by now if it was owned by anyone else.
Camshafts, front suspension arms.etc arent cheap - someone would offset the value of the car for the cost of parts and call it a day.

I have tried my best (within reason) to keep everything in good working order on mine - easily spent £7k on parts over the past two years - thats doing 99% of the work myself (other 1% was bodywork!).
That said - I will more than likely run mine until catastrophic engine failure, its worth around £2.5/3k at present, I have thought about moving up to a B7 3.0TDi Quattro, but the prices are still fairly high.
 
I went for the 1.9tdi for the reliability and strength of the engine long term and it will most probably out live my wifes mk5 Golf at the rate that is going.

I did pay a premium for mine 2.5 years ago at just under £7k but it was a one owner late 2004 car with 50K miles and immaculate.........and hoping and it has done so far been faultless and reliable.

The B7 RS4 or a B8 of some kind will be my next hop up the ladder
 
The 2,5tdis are always ready to bite you.My alternator seems to be US and its front off just to get at it and test
 
Yeah, also done the alternator on my 2.5 - not too difficult - its just that everything needs be out of the way first!
Can you not test it by measuing charge current whilst the engine is running?

When mine gave up it was obvious - dash lit up like a christmas tree when the voltage dropped whilst driving.

That's it but I am told that it could be the voltage regulator and access is needed to be sure and I think it would be easier on others.Not sure now whether to get the belts changed as they are nearly 5 yrs old and that brings in the stat and W/pump.It seems to be a slippery slope but wouldn't want to lose her

To be fair - your probably best replacing the whole alternator unless you are going to swap out all the other bits too (brushes.etc)
Reason im saying that is if the regulator is on its way out - likelihood is that other parts of the alternator will be close to worn too - no point replacing the regulator and having to pull it out again in a few months.
Yeah, if the belts are that age - probably best thinking about replacing those too.

Where abouts are you located? If you aren't too far away I would be happy to do the belts and timing for you.
 
Right again.My local in Southampton has it now cos he had time come up today and has done the belts on these before.Luckily he sourced an available Remy unit .Discussed the cam belts etc and as its only done around 10k since Chris Adamms did the job so well I am leaving that alone,Thanks anyway.It doesn't make a lot of sense using this as a local runabout but it has nice features and wife likes it too and shes not easy to please!
 
They are nice cars but we live in a throw away society! To be fair I spent £2200 on mine with 186k miles and it appears to be ok **touch wood** but I'm not handy in the slightest so it was a gamble. So far its paid off- but if it threw a £1k bill I'd have to bin it.
 
That's about it.Mines not cost me a lot and my son is always ready to help with routine servicing and other jobs;he also has a VAGCOM cable which has paid for itself many times over.This local mechanic seems to know his stuff but I will wait to see what happens.It would be sad to see it go and I never throw anything away until I have to_Our other car is a 99 Bora v5 179k rescued before it went to the scrappers.Also has lovely heated leather satnav climate all for£400!And of course we run two real rescue dogs
 
According to the website above, there are only 152 cars of my model ( 1.8T 190 SE) left on the road!!

162k miles and a few dents her and there, (caused by taking it to Spain!!!!). Syncromesh on first gear is a little suspect and power steering has started to whine a bit.

It's days are becoming numbered
