how easy is the floor lighting, been thinking of doing that but wanted red to match the ambient lights.

Very simple mate... Just a bit of knowledge of basic electrics... Pin 7, block B, small bit of coding and sorted.. Also dimmable from the menu which is good...

Was considering TTRS brakes too.. Might just go Brembo disks and uprated fluid and lines, thats all next year tho...

cruise is good for keeping to speed limits, as you know these things aren't easy to keep under the limits haha

trouble is with big brakes is your limited to wheel choice, TTRS setup is a bit of a pain to get most wheels over

Yeah man, the wheels I have in mind should be a breeze.. But we will see, i'll no doubt change my mind about 10 times til then..

So update time again... and I thought i'd share like a mini build thread of the enigne cover I was previously talking about in the thread..

Having fit the twintake the engine was looking a bit bare, so decided to explore my options again.. Had the TTS cover on my last car and its been done to the hilt by poeple and I find it a bit boring now.. So anyway, after that not a lot of options left bar the Neuspeed cover which compared to the TTS cover is overly expensive! Had a good look at the covers and anyone who knows Audi will know the 2.0fsi or tfsi is used in different models, so had a look around at them and found this.....



A 2.0fsi A4 engine cover, which is the exact same as the neuspeed, decided to purchase one I found on ebay for much cheapness and decided to make a mini project out of it... Looking at the pic above you'll notice that the letters on there are pressed, which is a bit of a hassle if your after a smooth cover and not exactly look great anyway when you are fitting it onto a transversed engine the letters being sideways ;).. So I had to cut out the letters and the badge, patch the holes that were left and use plastic filler to smooth it all off...

Now on this cover too the mounting points are slighty out of alignment to the S3 covers standard mounts, so I had to cut and reposition 1 of the mounting points at the back of the cover for it to fit, and this was my test fit....



So now it was test fit and sitting correctly is was time to make it look nice and possibly a bit different, then came the next few processes



And after that, it was time to give it a few oem touches with a spot of carbon effect and that was it finished...



I forgot to add that I had also fit heat insulating foam to the rear, functional and also hid all the work that had went on underneath....

And this was it on the car...



Now the only thing that bothered me slightly was that the carbon was a 'slightly' different shade from the twintake carbon, but it doesnt bother me enough considering the amount of work it is to change it.. Anyway, I think its looks great, nice to have something a little different and 1 of a kind on these cars.. Its not to everyones taste, but its not everyones car and considering the options out there I love it, cost half of what other covers out there are too.. win...

Nice idea on the cover, Looks ace Jack.

I wish I was as brave as you to hack things up and put them back together again. I usually mess up the first cut and end up having to buy the part all again.

Thanks mate... My friend had a Blue Mk3 P reg Golf VR6 n at the time, I loved that thing.. Was kicking around in my Mk3 Fiesta Rs Turbo though, so not all was lost..

This surprises me mate.. Your posts aswell, you look like a pretty artistic dude... I was just lucky when I was younger that I had a job that needed a lot of tidy finishing jobs... Its not 100% woulda kinda liked to have took a little more tone on it, like the carbon effect the correct shade and what not, but defo passable.. :)

I look at this site mate but can't ever put stuff on there my self as I am looking for stuff for my car also I do bits to my car but can do a write up like yours how do u do it please help
 
Good outcome mate, just a shame it doesn't cover the fuel pump, would be spot on in my eyes if it did.

However, hats off to ya for trying something different with a decent outcome.

Personally I just take pics as I go along and add them to photobucket.. Write my pieces and then you copy the url from your photobucket picture and then just paste it on your page on this.. Theres a sandbox section on the forum that lets you play around, so you get used to using the site..

The classifieds on the forum is also a good place to get parts.. All friendly guys and will help you along.. We all have started ourselves at 1 point...

Update time and a lot sooner than expected on this.. Wheel update

Right I wasn't planning on doing anything with the wheels until next year but came across a deal I couldn't refuse... The car has always look very OEM and I felt like I wanted to do something slightly a bit more aggressive looking as in my opinion the S3 looks a bit soft.. Anyway I know the famous saying '18s for go and 19s for show' but i've had a 19" itch i've had to scratch for a while so took the plunge

So here they are 19" OZ Superleggera wheels 8J ET45



The wheels came with nearly new Avon ZZ5s 235/35/19 tyres and having tried a wheel on the car they simply were not going to work.. With the offset and width of the wheel being what it was then it was going to add an additional 15mm of poke from standard, which was ok as the car was sitting on 15mm spacers anyway, however the 235 tyres added an extra 8mm of poke from the rim due to the size and stuck out like a sore thumb... So the tyres had to go, they were removed and replaced with Bridgestone Potenza Re050s all round and suit the car and the rim perfectly...

The colour of the rims werent gonna work for me either and had to choose what I wanted to do...

I wanted a change up, standard silver would work but I wanted to try something i've never had before and hadn't seen on a lot of Audis either (Maybe for a reason I dunno) Now because the car is sprint Blue and really has the Blue, Black and Alu theme, I decided to go for Shadow chrome... Pure Silver face and fades into Black the further back into the wheel you look... So that was them sent off to Powdertec in Glasgow to get done..

In the meantime the wheels were away I needed to find spigots for them.. The internal diameter of these particlar rims were 79mm and as most probably know the S3 hub diameter is 57.1mm.. Had a look on the usually reliable ebay for rings and none of that size were to be found.. Flirted with the idea of fitting double rings , a 57.1mm-72.6mm ring then a 72.6mm-79mm ring on top... But before I did that, I took a trip to Motorsport wheels in Glasgow and the guys were absolutely spot on.. supplied me with oz racing spigots 57.1mm - 79mm spigots and was happy to have the piece of mind about them now being totally hubcentric...

Got the wheels back and they looked superb so it was time to get them on the car and this was the result





Imo I think it looks ****** fantastic and the bounceyness of the front end with the standard wheels on spacers is now gone and the car handles like a gokart again, just like the old 1..

Iniatially I had a small bit of rubbing from practically every corner but removing the arch screws have sorted that right out.. I'm only getting a slight bit of rubbing from the right rear like I was getting on the spacers... I think thats down to the wheels needing realigned, so i'll see what its like after its been done, before investigating that further...

So next in the rather quick evolution of this car.. Its booked in on Monday to get the timing belt done and to get its Mot so fingers crossed everything will be ok, but I cant see why it wouldnt be.. The cars winter protection is gonna be done this week, so i'll get some pics up of that too when its done, a right good clean, polish and wax on the cards..

I'm also gonna tinker with the colour of the honeycomb of the grille aswell, i'm still not 100% happy with it, even though it looks good...



I've had the lap6 Audi matte alu made up and i'm gona try that, all this hassle makes me wish I just bought the genuine grille in the 1st place, but i'll make do with what I have for now and hopefully it turns out exactly how I want it this time :)

Looks good mate, nice to see something different other than the normal rotors that absolutely everyone seems to have at the min.

If it was me I'd like it sat lower to pull off the wheels even better, however.. I often get told that my s3 is way to low to be driven "properly" so that down to personal choice.

I got a feeling the right rear scrubbing will be due to the camber, as far as I can remember the right hand side of the car has different camber than the left so it runs less negative camber than the left side. If it's anything like mine whatever's rubbing will eventually run away and the rubbing stops.

Wheels look spot on, may pay powdertec a visit as my td 's are shadow silver so they might be able to fix them up. I think the grill would be better gloss black if it were me, but i am not a fan off chrome.

Thanks Josh... Car is sitting pretty much at the limit of functionality I like to call it ha... At speed and under load the rubbing is a bit excessive for my taste... Real bit of a cringe everytime I see a dip in the road..

I've identified tonight exactly where its rubbing tho, so i'm gona try and attack it with a dremel when I get round to it.. Your talking about minimal size location of rubbing but the noise is excessive and cringeworthy... Hopefully sorts it right out and is the only issue really from gokart like handling.. Gona purchase an uprated rear antiroll bar too as these are meant to be the most 'bang for the buck' by making the biggest difference... :)

Yeah highly recommend them Keith, the wheels were in and out in the 1 day and were spot on...

I'm trying to stay away from the Gloss Black this time, had it on the last car sure and when I put the old car back to standard I fell in love with the colour scheme again and think the bright look on the Sprint Blue is defo the way to go... And bare in mind, its Matt Aluminium on this car, there is no chrome ;) ha

Excellent write up mate, really enjoyed reading through all of this and the car is looking absolutely bang on now.
Also you mentioned in the first post that you built your own rs style grill and it looks brilliant mate. I don't suppose you did a how to? Or maybe took a couple of progress pics during the process? This is something I would love to have a bash at myself but only if I could get it as good looking as yours.

Hey Bailey.. I didnt do a build thread unfortunately on it, but I might have some progress pics on it.. I ended up building 3 of them in the end, 2 for other people ao quite clued up on them and would be happy to help answer any questions you have about them..

Not much mate.. They are both different setups though really.. The prefacelift was fine, this 1 feels a wee bit more solid and refined though... I thought that as soon as I got in it.. But its a facelift though it was bound to.. Apart from that though, not really much difference although the facelift does feel slightly bigger!?? Who knows?? Ha

Those wheels look nice great colour. I think your grill has too much alu colour going on. How about making the honey comb part matte black to match the fog surrounds?

Cheers man, they were defo worth the gamble I think..

The grilles 1 of those 1's.. Its never gona be everyones taste really.. Imo tho the Matte alu suits the Blue car very well.. Its nice and bright and its very clean looking... The think aboht the lap6 for the honeycomb is that its a pearl paint.. Changes colour with the light and reflects the surrounding Black off it.. I 100% want to stay away from Black on this car, because I had it on the other 1..

The wheels are the same tho.. During the day they are hyper silver like and only start to dull down at night, so with the centre of the grille doing the same as the wheels and mirrors then it should all tie in quite nicely...

I'm gona dull down the fogs too.. They are a wee bit in your face being pure gloss... Thinking maybe a stain would suit them better and look more recessed..
 
S3_jacko really excellent work you have done there! Can you tell me what you did to the rubber window seals please as I cant see anything mentioned?

Not an update as such, just a bit of progress... Car was in and got its timing belt kit changed on Monday, brake fluid change and MOT done... All went well, car passed no problems without a single advisory :)

Myself and a good buddy R90STL (Richard) discovered we both had the day off today, so decided to take a run in the cars, so it would have been rude not to stop get some refreshments and take a couple of pictures to share....









Good wee day out, very enjoyable and the car just turned 40k today aswell :)

Hi sorry this is me just noticed this... I just used a trim restorer gel on mine..

Probably need to do them every 6 months but well worth it.. Totally refreshes the car imo...
