Hi guys I've tried searching this but am unable to get anywhere.

I'm looking into purchasing a set of xxr 530 alloys for my s3 when I get it back from the garage. A have a few questions which I'm in hope someone will know the answers too.

Firstly am I right in thinking the s3 8l is 5x100 stud fitment?

Secondly I'm looking at buying 2x 8.75j 2x 9.75j 18inch which will have et20 offset. Will these be wide enough or too wide to fit without going wider than the arch, and what you're size should I fit? I would like bigger tyres than the standard 225 so would these be able to fit bigger?

Hope that all makes sense will look forward to hearing any feedback and help in these

8.75j and 9.75j wheel rims are not normal sizes. Wheel rims are usually either whole numbers such as 8j or 9j or 0.5 numbers 8.5j or 9.5j.
I don't know what the widest wheel size is you can fit , I do know that they are 5 * 100 PCD as you say.
The width of tyre that you can fit on a rim is usually defined by a table like this.

An 8.5 inch rim will do upto a 255 width tyre. Whether that would fit in the arch especially on the front I am not sure.

On an S3 that has a quattro system you can run into into issues running staggered wheels if there is too much of a difference between the front and rear tyre circumference. There is a thread here.

Hi Karl, thanks for the info. Might look at something a little smaller than 8.75 and 9.75j

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Somone on here recently had some XXR's in those sizes, I THINK it was @Pubemammal on his A3 , any chance you could spread some light on this fella?

I've never done silly wide rims and stretch so I can't help you.

That said, it's an S3 not A3, so WAY more room in the arches anyway!

Well good morning. It is @garethevansmedia who has the xxrs in those sizes :) I have 10J on the rear, but close Prawn lol.

Anyway, yes buddy they will fit on the S3 with no problem, as long as you don't run massive profile doughnut tyres. If you don't like the idea of stretched tyres I would go for these sizes:

Front 225/40/18
Rear 235/40/18

If you don't like big sidewalls you can also run 35 a profile tyre. These sizes shouldn't cause any problems on the S3 due to the wider arches.

thanks so far guys, appreciate the comments.

would you know if you can fit anything bigger than 225 and 235? preferably wanting 235 at front 255 at the rears, but not sure if they would fit on these... if not do you know any alloys which could accommodate my preferred tyre size, in 18inch. @Pubemammal

Yes they will fit on the S3 arches.. I used to run similar sizes on my 3SDM's . Keep the profile at 35 or 40 and you should be fine. How low are you going?

That's good, im going to run 2x 235-40-18 and 2x 255-40-18.

With regards to lowering, im not entirely sure yet, coil-overs is on my list, but im unsure on what to buy. i have a budget of about £4-500 to spend on them so if you could perhaps recommend a few that would be great help @Pubemammal

Alright sounds good. If you don't go really low you will have no problems. But you got to remember they are very wide wheels with small offsets so going low with them size tyres might cause some rubbing issues. I've been running good old JOMS for a couple of years and never had a problem with handling/comfort. With that budget you could possibly get some AP coilovers I've heard great things

im not going to go really low. with having the alloys on first i can decide how low to go then, im also looking into doing a full polybush set on the car depending on cost of that. AP coil-overs are the ones i've been looking at, so shall see once i have had everything ordered

thanks for your help @Pubemammal
