Hi,
Just purchased an A4 TDI 143 Black edition and looking for a performance improvement.
Trying to decide whether a remap or DT Box would be the best way to go.
Any recommendations would be great.
Thanks!

I don't think anyone will disagree that an ECU remap tuned to your car is the best way to go however if your car is under any warranty then I would consider a tuning box for the warranty period as this will remove any problems with Audi over any claims.... my own experience with this subject is that I was told buy Audi that this could cause an issue if I needed to claim for a mechanical breakdown under the warranty period.

This will also apply to the removal of the ECU ( as I have a version that would have to be removed from the car to be mapped )

So for now I have a Box and I am very impressed with it.

take a look at DTUK.

Hi Anthony,
Thanks for the response.
As my car is just a year old the DT Box sounds like the way to go.
Couple of questions:
How easy was it really to fit and the site tells me 10 mins!
Also, they mention you may get the engine management light come on. Did you have this problem?
Thanks again

Hi when you first fit the cables and box it takes around 10 to 15 minutes you need some nice long cable ties to secure the cable but once the cable is in place removing the box takes les than one minute as you get a blanking plate with the box to put in its place, this is handy to remind you what your car feels like without the box fitted :)

When you car goes into the garage my advice is to remove the cable as well as the box that way there is nothing to indicate that it is there.

as for the engine management light this will only come on if you over tune the box as it comes with 4 maps loaded and you can also tweak the boost so you start of with it in default setting ( as it comes out of the box ) run it this way for a few days then have a go with the other maps and adjust the boost setting its very easy to do and the box comes with print outs of the maps loaded and full text and photo instructions on how to make the changes.

If you look closely you will see mine.

There is a lot of talk on these boxes I already have a stage 1 map but I'm curios to try one of these things just to compare it to my map, does anyone know if it would work with my car already been mapped or not???

Surely the DT box can't alter boost? It just ups the common rail pressure so the injectors squirt more fuel in?

A proper remap will alter the injector timing/open duration on the throttle position/rpm map as well as maybe altering the turbo boost pressure.

Dtuk box on my A4 sline now for a couple months and can honestly say it is brill! Tried all four map settings with no issues, bhp now 185! from 143 and you can instantly feel the difference, really transformed the car. Fitted in 10 mins, you cannot get it wrong.
One of the best things I have bought for the car and well worth the money
Love the drive now!

The DTUK box also connects to the Pressure sensor in the boost pipe just after the turbo, so it "fools" the ecu into producing more boost.

No Zafi it does not only connect to the fuel rail

I see.... these boxes have come on a bit, then ;)

Yeah they have I think the first boxes did used to just boost fuel but these boxes have twin connections, trust me I was very very sceptical but once I tested this unit I was hooked and converted :)

i've had my dtuk box for a few weeks now, definitely an improvement compared to before.

Hi Christian,
Have a few questions:
How old is the unit?
What was the performance improvement?
Why are you looking to sell?
Thanks

Forgot to ask how much do you want for it?
Doh!
:)

Hi D3eano,

The unit is 4 months old and in perfect condition due to me storing the box behind the firewall.
The performance went from 143 to 184 with 320nm torque. I was extremely suprised by the power difference it makes the engine perform as it should as i found mine lagged from 1.000 to 2.000 where i usually sit around town but now it picks up fantastically! A real difference but can be changed to a softer setting if you so wish! Im only selling it as my finance agreement is up on the a4 and i was going to get an a5 and get the box software changed for the a5 but got a cheap polo petrol now as my situation changed :(! Looking for 250 mate which is a bargain as i paid 400 new with my military discount from dtuk! Not cheap but well worth it plus my mpg improved by a good 20 %!

How easy is it to store behind the firewall as that sounds like the best place but suspect its not straightforward.
Any pics would be good :)

Its actually relatively easy ill get some pics tomorrow mate as ill be removing it as ive now sold it to one of the forum guys! Cheers mate

Here you can see the cables routing from the boost pipe and from the rail sensor to the firewall via the abs controller. Nicely hidden but i reckon with a bit of fettling these can be a lot more concealed but for me i was more concerned about the box being away from the engine bay ( heat and moisture)

Here you can see the connection to the fuel sensor at the front, the cable runs directly up the middle of the rail.

The box tucked away, it may not look so neat but it was well secured down there and whenever i removed the box it never had a drop of water on it which is key!!!

Hi

Just picked up my A4 Black Edition 143BHP version and during the test drive I was thinking the car could do with a little more power but obviously has a years warranty, so re-map is out of the question (for now!). I had a tuning box on my last car for a month or so but did not really notice much of a difference unless I gave it a boot full, so had put me off them for a while but reading your comments is persuading me again :)

I have the S-Tronic box with 8 Speed, what sort of noticeable differences will I feel and any negative affects on MPG?

Thanks in advance for the help/advice

hi mate,

first very nice motor i love the BE!

when i put my tuning box on i noticed a real difference, there was no flat spot in 3rd anymore and the car felt and still feels a lot more pokier when you wanna go it doesn't hang around.

i have nothing negative to report about the DTUK tuning boxes great piece of kit and you can customize the map to your liking.

by the way sent you a pm back mate.

Thanks Shaun826, love the BE models myself and never seen one in Moonshine Blue before........ gorgeous :)

I think I will go for the Tuning Box, especially as the car is still under warranty, best option for now.

Thanks for the input, dropped matey above a PM for his, fingers crossed!

Hi what year is the car. as of now the ECU doesnt have to be removed from 2011 cars so no tel tale signs of it being removed. and if it has to go into the dealer the standard map can easily be put back on. if this is the case i personally would go for a Remap thats custom written to that vehicles ECU

I am surprised to here that as my 2013 2.0 Tdi 177 could not be mapped in the car and has to be removed ?? is this no longer the case ??
