My A4 has started being very difficult to get it into first and second. When changing up to 2nd it feels very clunky and notchy. Also when driving along its sometimes popping out.

Car is on 137k with original clutch as far as I am aware. Does anyone have any idea if this is the clutch on its way out or is it a gearbox issue perhaps?

Sounds like syncromesh in your gearbox, but im no mechanic so someone will be here soon with more knowledge than me.

Seats should be out the car this Tuesday. Only pics I have are in my car diary and was thinking £100 the lot or £160 with the rear cup holder arm rest as would need to get my money back on it or mod it to have my leather trim fitted to it.

Thread HiJack lol!

I dont think fluids have been changed ever. Think it would be best to start with a GearBox oil change?

Gearbox oil change is a good start and usually always change my cars every 50k miles even if they say it is a life oil!

I had my gearbox oil changed yesterday (finally) and the change is much smoother. It feels like the gears 'click' into place.
For the cost of it you haven't got much to lose

Cheers, I think I'll start with that. I doubt its ever been done to be honest so hopefully replacing for fresh will sort it out!

Just had a quote of £165 to change the gearbox fluid. Sounds expensive to me or is this about right?

That's a rip off! If you have a trolley jack and axle stands you can do it yourself within 30mins.

Well think I found out what the problem is - clutch is on its last legs. Did the 'clutch test' last night, in 5th foot down and the revs are all over and cars struggling to get power to the wheels. This together with, clutch judder, and not being able to select a gear properly means it needs a new clutch and DMF :(

Yeah it's something you should only have to do once in your ownership.

Crikey, thats gona sting, dreading that happening to mine with 160k+ and the bv43 turbo, hope u sort a deal pal
