Hello guys, I know this topic was discussed over and over again, but I'm building my own braking kit with some Porsche Cayenne callipers so it would be very handy if someone who already has this kit on his car could give me a piece of advice.

I've already built the adapters, I have the discs, but I don't have and I don't know anything about the brake lines.

What inner diameter should it have? I've found something from Goodridge, but are different diametres 3.2mm and 4.8mm. Also, I'm looking to buy 4 meters, I think it would be enough?

The fitings that go into the caliper, what size, and also, what size shoud be the fiting for the other end of the brake line?

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the reply mate! I really needed the information because the www is very poor in information about these brakes, especially fitted on Audi S3 8L.

My big concern are the discs, because are f**king heavy (mk4 r32 discs, 334mm)!! I hope all will be fine and the car won't change that much as people say..

Yeah they're not the best weight wise but it's worth it to have decent brakes. 334x32mm is a nice size disc. ECS do sell 2 piece versions of these discs but they are around $600 or at least they were when I got them.

You can fit some 17" wheels over these brakes too. Did you get the 18Z calipers? Pedal travel is still nice with those. They get a lot of unjustified bad press from people without actual experience of them. I quite like them. Miles better than stock.

I have already fitted some 18" BBS CH, et43 and 15mm spacers (front)..and I hope I did the math right so the caliper will have some space there :)))

Yes, I have the 18z, I heard they are the best due to the area of the pistons in comparison with the 17z. I don't know about you, but neither the stock brakes can't say that are that worse, but any improvement would be nice.

I bought them because they were at a resonable price, about as much as the LCR ones (4 pots) and personally, I think it will look damn fine!

Don't make me do the maths on you again!

Haha well yeah obviously there is an increase, it's just how much of an issue that actually is in reality. My beef is people saying stuff like "pedal feel is crap" when in fact what should be said is "pedal travel is marginally increased". Personally I'm not a fan of the modern car "brake switch" with little to no travel, anyway. I like a bit of feel and you get plenty of that from these.

Mine were pretty tight with BBS CH's but then I had the 5x120 versions so the centre hub part of the wheel was larger diameter. If yours are the real deal 5x100 you should be fine. I'm sure a few of the Mk4 R32 lot run the 6 pots with CHs.

It was the same issue here to be honest. There are a lot more Porsche's kicking about here than Ibiza/Leons (rare to see any?) so getting the Porsche calipers was a no brainer. Cost me $900 (I think?) for a pretty much new pair in the right color (off black) and with as new pads. On the subject of pads, there's not much choice there but the OEM Porsche Pagids are alright. Apparently some guys who've bought the Mintex pads have actually got Pagid pads in the box!

I just updated my thread with a couple of new pics (as I got new tyres) if you want to see how they fill a 17" rim.

You know me, I like to put numbers to things

Here's what i said about them previously:

the 18Z's are by far the best of the bunch of porsche 6 pots definitely.

Hydraulically speaking, the stock 54mm single pot caliper has a surface area of 2290mm², compared to one side of the 18Z's at 2750mm², so not allowing for the reduction in caliper flex, the pedal will unquestionably travel 20% further than stock.

The Forge ones I had gave 29% more travel over stock, which I found a little too much.

i guess with the added stiffness of a decent porsche caliper, the 20% additional pedal travel may not be too much of an issue. it would require slight adjustment to the pedals to make heel N toe techniques a bit easier though.

They are good for sure. But pad prices and lack of options are a bit scary

Yeah, it's basically Pagid, Mintex (which seem to just be Pagid re-boxed) or Hawk. Annoying there's not much more since they were also used on the GT2, you'd think there would be more of a range!

Neah, I've got BBS's 5x112 and the spacers are also adapters to get me the right measurement and fit the hub 5x100.

I've paid 300Euros for the calipers and decent pads, new EBC solid discs about 150Euros and adapters to fit the S3 and seals for the calipers, 200Euros, more..I think that's quite a bargain now that I'm hearing you paid 900$ on yours!

How have you got on with the ECS kit Sam?

I think I'll be heading down that route with my 996tt fronts tbh but there doesn't seem like many people using them to get any decent reviews.

In terms of pads for your 6 pots - surely Carbon Lorraine and/or Performance Friction would be able to offer you aftermarket pads?

If not then Pagid RS14/19/29 or Ferrodo DS3000 or DSUNO if you want a race/track product

Yeah I paid quite a bit but they were pretty much as new, with pads which made it not too bad I guess.

I've not got their stage 5 kit, I've just got their Mk4 R32 2 piece discs and the "lee the machinist" adapters. It's a pretty decent setup and fits under some 17s which is awesome because I wanted pro race 17x9s (which I have now).

Oh, do you have any links or more info about those pads? I wasn't aware of any others on the market! That's cool. I'm in the market for pads pretty soon.

Yeah sorry- that's what I meant by saying their kit = The 2 piece disc set up.
Have you had much use out of them? I'm just worried about them cracking with them being drilled rotors.

Tbh the only links I could point you to would be found using google mate and to the main websites - so you'd have to find a distributor down under to get reasonable prices incuding shipping.

http://www.carbonelorrainebraking.co.uk/

http://www.pfcbrakes.com/

You may have to drop them an email if you can't find your pads on the site - I know my mate used to run Carbon Lorraine's on his 996 GT3 with the 6 pots and couldn't fault them. I have the problem of having to many choices to opt for with my 4 pot 996tt fronts! lol

I went for the grooved ones. Not sure if they still do them:

Cheers for the links, I'll have a look...

Damn Sam, that looks tight!!

Btw, how much money did you pay for the adapters?

Heh, yeah they fill the wheels nicely.

From the top of my head they were around 150 GBP and I got them powdercoated locally as they're mild steel. Looking back, zinc coating or similar would have been better really. I think Creation Motorsport nicked Lee's design and are now selling some on eBay.

Anyone know the part number for these calipers?

I'm googleing for about 2 hours and I've found just for the 17z's..none for the 18z's..

Cheers!

LaterEdit: just found the part number so I'll post here maybe someone else will need it too
