Fastest Stock Turbo 8P S3 Quarter (1/4) Mile?

Impressive. Imagine the times with hybrid turbo and stage 3 map.
Thanks. The times are definitely getting quicker as there are more development on this platform. A few stage 3 Golf Rs are already approaching the 10sec mark.

Thanks Alex. We ran this exact setup (105 fuel) on the dyno, everything is actually still within safe limits, ignition timing, afr, egt, etc. No knock throughout the rev range. The key here is water methanol injection. It really does magic in keeping the heat down.

On the point of this setup being used only for short runs. Well, it's a yes and no. Yes, we wouldn't run this 105wmi file for circuit racing or street driving but only because the high cost of 105 fuel making it unrealistic for such purposes. But we have tested a regular stage 2 WMI 98RON file, the car was able to pull back to back 11.7 second 1/4 mile times, on the same street tyres (yokohama advan sport). So it proves that, with the right tune and hardware you can have a daily driving sub-12 second stock turbo S3 (or Golf R for that matter).

I totally agree re WMI.....I had this on my old Escort, and now,on the S3,I have to say I'm completely behind using it,and I think what you've achieved there is probably the ultimate for a K04 car.

I probably missed it,but what sort of power is the car making on 98 and 105RON?

Or.....a GTX30 and Stg4. LOL

Point is,I think it's great that people do this sort of thing, but everyone outside of the drag strip has to understand that the setup being used there is purely aimed at short runs.
IIRC, A Golf R in the UK with GTX3071R ran a 11.0 just recently. Your stage 4 should be in the 10s quite easily. :D

Or the 30 minutes if I snap a driveshaft..... LOL

Have to say I've avoided drag runs as I've already had a new transfer case, and gearbox rebuild, and would rather avoid them becoming "consumables"!

On our Mainline 4WD dyno, one of the more "conservative" dynos in the country, it makes approx 225kw at all four on 98WMI file and about 10kw more on 105WMI. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to find out what it was stock, but a stock S3 on the same dyno would usually see 155-160kw.

Cheers. I believe there might be another 10th somewhere with a little more tweaking of boost and timing, even the suspension and tyre setup can be fine tuned further. The 11.5 run was with almost 3 degree negative camber on the rear. LOL.

I'm running 3 degrees on the rear and 2.5 on the front.

That would certainly help on the track but not so much for the drag strip. Negative camber is a definite no-no for drag racing.

I can picture that!

As you say,it's fine on the road and track, and helps me fit the tyres under the arches, but for drag racing....would get a few laughs I'll bet.

Just came home from santa pod best time 13.05 with 106 mph for stage 1 would say im pleased :)

Well done! Is the car S-Tronic or manual?

My best with stage 1 was 13.00 at 107mph, stock DSG. It did a 12.8 as soon as I had the TCU modified to 4k rpm launch.

DSG did 4 runs 13.9 , 13.0 , 13.8 , 13.12 launch control did strugle a bit will defo need dsg map :)

My only mods at the mo r forge twinair intake ( modded the second canister to take the air from fog light area to get rid of darth vadar sound ) + decat + GFB DV+ + AMD map, so pleased with 13.05 :)

Impressive. I had a bit more mods than that at stage 1.:) Definitely do the dsg map and take it back to the strip.

Will defo go back to pod, just need few more mods to get in 12's cos 13's n 14's no one really cares about :)

Lost to some sh*t civic on one run, not happy, but must say he was good, defo need to get in 12's :)

Be aware that twintake is actually not working very well on S3s. It gives 10-12% LTFT so that means you leaving bhp on the table.

Agreed.

It's an old design now and the Revo,ITG and AMD are amongst the current best.

thx 4 info, i believe u 2 know ur stuff :icon thumright: when i bought the intake i didn't plan to go too far with mod's , now after catching the damn bug, i'll look into changing it, but i must say looks wise i do prefer forge :)

Yeah it is looking very neat but AMD/Revo are much better design powerwise. I personally went through about 4 different intakes and believe me that you want one that performs rather then looks :)

will c on 21st how dif mods perform on same dyno :detective2:

The thing is that the major restriction in the intake is at the level of the MAF.

That's a fixed diameter, and no matter how wide the pipework before or after it,the maximum airflow is determined by that restriction.
Smooth flow is paramount to getting the maximum through that,as turbulent airflow results in lower flow, and if you require two air filters to optimise flow,I would suggest that the answer is a bigger, better single filter.

The ITG,AMD,and Revo all seem to fit that bill, and the ITG manages well on my car.....it isn't a good looking piece of gear, but it has a certain functional appeal....LOL,but you can see my point about the narrowest area of the intake system on this pic.

I think it all depends on how far we want to take our cars, i take my hat off to wot u done to your beast of a car, but i will never push mine so far, every time i drive my car it makes me smile so that wot matters to me, thx 4 advice, hope that on dyno i will prove that twintake is ok it might not be the best, but it works 4 me :thumbs up:

Exactly.

We all want different things, and whilst some of it overlaps,a lot of it remains very different(that's a bit philosophical...LOL).

What matters is that you enjoy it,and you clearly do,so thats great.

Don't forget though that I was going to keep my car stock....then I wasn't going beyond Stg2+.....then I wasn't going to get an even bigger turbo.......

It's addictive!

My twintake is running 7% LTFT checked it yesterday!

I spoke to Ecotune in Glasgow, a very well respected company up here... They run a 420hp Golf R and its their belief that the VW racing intake is best... They said they have tried a few, but i'll take that with a pinch of salt as theres something along the lines that apr are sponsored by vw racing nowadays or something... I read that somewhere

Boy up here done 12.2 quarter mile yesterday... Andrew.. Cant mind his username on here tho, stage 2+ Apr dsg stock turbo

The VWR intake is essentially an ITG intake, and APR appeared along the way, moved in alongside VWRacing in Milton Keynes, and for whatever reason APR have since relocated their European HQ to Germany.

APR are not sponsored by VWR,and I think you'd have to ask VWR for any more on that.

That intake manifold is looking very nice Alex, which reminds me to go back and finish reading your thread (not that it'll ever finish, I hope not), remember I left it at page 30 last time:D

Thank you!

There's always more.

Does show though where the narrowest part of the intake prior to the turbo is,and how ITG have radiused the pipes to smooth flow as much as they could, before Revo went further!

Time slip from last night. Not my best ET but managed to 120MPH, which should be another record for stock turbo S3.

I've ran a 12.092 at Crail Raceway and that was before I installed the Airtec FMIC, so hopefully be running high 11's now.. I'm still on the Stock K04 Turbo and a respected tuner has told me that this is the fastest Stock Turbo 1/4 Mile S3 in Europe atm. I'm sure the fastest Stock Turbo S3 is in Australia

A cool day plus a good launch would get you into 11s.

Which S3 were you referring to?

Last year, there was a stock turbo 8P S3 from Greece which ran 11.7. That'd probably be the quickest in Europe if no one else has gone quicker since.

Well, since you guys are talking about fastest 1/4 times then i'm sure you're going to enjoy the latest S3 from Greece. Owner says it's the fasest 2.0 tfsi in Europe with 10.115 sec.

well with gtx3071 it's not stock turbo s3.

How do you get such good figures?
Well, a combination of quite a few things needs to happen. The short answer is: get to 400hp, reasonable weight reduction, proper suspension and tyre setup, and do plenty of runs to fine tune everything.

I know it's not stock. It isn't even a gtx3071. This has a gtx3582r. I just thought that you would be interested. In this run it was running 740hp. Now it has a new setup with a precision PT6466 turning out 858hp.

Was just reading about this car the last few days, it's also the most powerful 8P S3 in the world. There is however another even quicker 2.0TFSI in the form of a MKV GTi which did 9.7 sec IIRC.

wow didn't even know it is posible to get 800+ out of these engines...
