Engine Oil Drain Plug on 2014 S3

I meant to take a picture the other day when I took the undertray off on my 2014 S3 (8v model) to show the composite plastic sump and the rather odd looking engine oil drain bung.

It looks like it may use a special oil extraction system rather than the usual unscrew and let the oil pour out, can anyone shed any light on this type of bung and how you would normally drain the engine oil please?

It's a M14 plastic sump plug. Engine oil drains out as usual.

This screws into the side at the bottom, of the very shallow, wedge shaped sump (due to the fact that the engine is tilted 12 degrees towards the bulkhead).

You may be confusing it with the oil level sensor, which is mounted at the bottom and held in by a M6 collar nut?

Thanks for the quick response, I really should have taken that picture, the oil sensor is held in with 4 m6 bolts and is it the form of a square plate, the oil drain is practically flush with the rear of the plastic sump with no external castleation (sic) only an odd looking hole down the centre and if you put a screwdriver in you can rotate the plug approx. 5 degrees either side of centre.

Just did the first oil change on mine last weekend. Here are some pics of various parts that are related to this thread:





I used a P2 Philips screwdriver and was able to remove/replace the plug with no issues.

Yep, that's the sucker, is it a push to turn type release or did it just unscrew? I ask because I put a flat blade in the slotted portion and I could move it a small amount left and right without any real effort.

Did you replace the bung or reuse it?

With a P2 Philips it turned very solidly. Plain twist out, no push-to-turn. I reused the plug and o-ring this time, but will at least get new o-rings for future changes.

You just buy a complete new plug with o ring from the stealers. It's around £3.

Change the oil and filter today so I thought I would post a few pics of the sump area, sump plug and Haldex unit, the sump plug was £4.27 inc VAT, but I did not need it in the end, took around 5.75Lt to fill inc filter change, why don't Audi give the filling capacities in the handbook

What tool do you use to remove the filter housing? Just a filter grip or do you need a 25mm socket?

I used a socket to undo the housing and then used my hands to tighten up as it goes to a positive stop, a most elegant filter solution.

I have moved onto a RS4 now but miss my S3 very much, looking to place an order for the RS3 shortly.

New member here...can anyone tell me what is the drain plug highlighted, and how can I refill it because I thought it was the engine oil sump, yes I know I messed up so don’t give me too much of a hard time please! My vehicle is a 2016 TT quattro 2.0 TFSI, thank you.
