Hi,
the flexi section of my exhaust has devloped a hole/ snapped ish on my 01 audi a4 b5 tqs, my question are how many bits does the exhaust come in from the flexi section back? mine seems to be flexi section connects to the down pipe on 1 side and the other side is has two clamps holding it to pipe that goes to the center box,is this right? I only ask as I rang up my local exhaust place and they said they didnt stock the part and could not order in which was weird ,im not sure if bloke got confused then just couldnt be botherd or if he was a muppet or just they really didnt stock it . does anyone have a part number or know anywhere that would have 1 cheap? Gonna put on a mates ramps tomorrow have look but i was hoping to order the exhaust for tomorrow so i could fit it tomorrow.
Any help would be great.

Theres 4 parts to the whole exhaust.

Cat, down pipe, centre section/middle box and back box.

Originally from factory it was 3 parts as the back box centre section were one piece if one of the two has ever been replaced you will have a 4 piece system.

When my flexi was shot ebay was cheapest at around £50 for a bosal unit iirc but it might be better to look at getting a full system made up or buy a jetex and ebay downpipe or a full res/non res milltek system.

Ill try find the ebay one i used as i swapped the system for a full non res milltek so just used an ebay one and swapped it over on mine then did a full system swap but it fit pretty well to be fair.

I foudn the aftermarket DP's had nasty compression bends, so i had an exhaust shop just fit a new flexi to the existing DP.

Cheers for replys guys, Id like to go full system route only my mrs and my bank balance dont agree. id looked at the one on ebay and wasnt sure as it was ebay, but if your saying it was all good il give it a go.

Any advice on fitting it ? Im sure il be fine its not first time ive fitted an exhaust, but if anyone has any time saving wisdom im all ears.

Soak with wd40 the day before you work on it you may need heat

Yeah id be getting new nuts and bolts for the CAT/DP. I find it easier to remove the airbox undo the bolts on the CAT/TURBO disconnect the lambda under the coolant bottle, then underneath undo the hanger bracket on the gearbox, remove the clamp from DP/centre and pull out the full cat/DP from the engine bay.

Will save trying to get at those 3 bolts at the DP/CAT flange as access is very limited. Ive done it both ways and when the decat has been on as its on studs and nuts and fairly new hardware so not so much a PITA unless you have shovels for hands then id say its a no go lol

Well i borrowed some ramps and stuck the car on them in preparation for the morning, I had a quick look its defo not gonna be quick job or a fun 1.

I really didn't want to take the cat off . But after spending half hour looking for torch and another half hour trying to get on the 3 cat to downpipe nuts , In the end i decide it was the only way it was coming out. didn't read bradderz post properly well the part about Un plugging the lambda I went the hard way about it. As u see in picture. It's out now at least but gonna have get some cat to turbo nuts and a new gasket ,should have paid more attention

Uploadfromtaptalk1407622861215 my car giving birth to its cat and down pipe it was happy moment lol

still waiting for gaskets to come through post. I will google the word monolith, lol

Just look in the cat make sure the cross section bit 'monolinth' is flat either side and not melted/collapsed or rattling.

Well the gaskets I ordered online never turned up. so a 35 mile round trip on the train to tps to get them. put all back together thought everything was good until i felt there was a slight blow from where the down pipe clamps to centre pipe took it off to adjust it twice then snapped one of the bolts on the clamp and my car has now run out of m.o.t . Gonna get a brand new clamp tomorrow and stick a bit of gum gum in there when i do it up. do you think that be all right? you couldnt hear that it was blowing you could just feel it not much but Id expect not to blow at all .

Im not fine with it tho lol its very very minor but it will get to me if I dont sort it out, Il see how i get on with the new clamp probably should have got one first place.

No blow from exhaust now bit of paste and new clamp sorted:)
