Okay, I've wants to have a mess around with the exhaust on my 2.0 tdi!
ive had the DPF removed and it made a slight difference in sound but I've watched videos recently of tdi's that have had the back box removed and they sound mint!
my friends got a seat leon 2.0 tdi same engine as my a3 and he had the back box removed today and on getting the car back it didn't sound any different! So I'm in two minds on what to do will it be different for me cause I've had the DPF removed?

Could remove, but tbh will sound shocking/even worse on idle.

I would suggest getting a upgraded back box, wheather it be custom or manufactured.

I have full Milltek system on mine, and i have to say it is very loud under load. Maybe try get a vid of yours with (im guessing) standard cat back but with DPF delete and we can compare against mine with a full system?

I'm getting my back box removed this week , straight through pipe: I've seen Ash's video on one of the thread , just wondering whether just get a cat back or just remove back box

Which will sound better ?

I wanted to change my exhaust tips, but saw that would be quite difficult to do with stock back box so just cut it off and welded a pipe :) Don't know how about you, but I have in my 2.0TDI BKD one more silencer before back box so sound didn't change a lot, just a little different idle and got that diesel owl sound when releasing accelerator on high boost.

Mine is also 2.0 tdi bkd , I think I might Just go for a straight through pipe from that cat with a bigger pipe or

I might just remove back box and put on a bigger pipe

That should hopefully help

All done now! Sounds f**king brilliant! Will post some pictures and a video later!

depends on what you want?

Howl like mine? back box delete

loud noise? then cat back and back box delete...

performance? decat and backbox delete

you won't get rid of the tractor noise but you will get a different engine tone under load with the DeCat/Catback exhaust mods

Nothing too loud , something you can here when pulling off tbh .

I've seen a video of yours with back box delete , sound ok , put on the video you can't tell tbh lol

I'm paying the same price , £80

Do you have a video of cat back and back box delete

i didn't get the cat back, i got a decat instead (cat replaced with a straight pipe) and no vids yet

Il be doing from the cat , so unsure how it will sound on an audi , I had it done to my astra , very loud tbh lol

Sorry to resurrect this old thread... How are you getting on with it now? Still not to noisy... What's it like cruising on the motorway?

on mine it sounds perfect now. no howl anymore since the hybrid turbo and decat but it sounds awesome when i floor it.
on a motorway i barely notice the exhaust until i put my foot down to go faster.

Hi, I have just removed my back box. 2006 2.0 TDI 140 DSG. I took it to a Powerflow outlet but, think I got ripped off. I got a quote for £195 for a replacement backbox in stainless steel. When we got it on the ramp, the chap said it would be better to just remove the box and repipe. I got a nice tidy job but, it was £195 + VAT = £235 (ish). I don't feel any power gain, it sounds a little louder with a whistle when turbo is breathing. I also think it is using more diesel.

Anyone got a view if fuel economy might be effected by Back box removal AND, has anyone got a backbox replacement with pipes from Powerflow? If so, how much it cost please???

that is quite a lot to pay for a backbone delete, especially as the performance increase is barely noticeable and its mostly just noise.

Hi, thanks for your reply - appreciated. Yes, been driving now for approx 140miles and notice no power difference at all... just the annoying whistle from turbo use - especially in traffic on de-excelleration. I feel like a boy-racer who has been ripped off with that kind of cash. I reckon, if I had gone in asking for a Back-box delete it would have been cheaper. He actually said, if I found it too noisy, I could come back and he would fit a mufler mid-inline but, "I'll have to charge you for the parts - about £60 but,. I'll give you labour for nuffin".

Reckon I will steer clear of powerflow in the future. Shame; because he has done a really tidy job of the pipework.

Anyone else get a back-box removal and want to share what it cost?

Thanks.

Appreciated. I have sent an email to Powerflow HQ and asked if they would agree that the price charged was excessive. I will let you know if I get a response.

Thanks. Would still be interested to hear any other prices from others.

Regards.
