Special BV43 Advice

Hi Guys

I am looking at buying a BV43 with BV43a internals that should be good for about 220bhp on my 130pd. Looking for some advise on the following:

How will the stock injectors cope (I think that would be the right at the limit)?

Any gains to be had from a FMIC (I don't drive it like I stole it all the time)

How driveable will the car be with the turbo fitted before the remap (Its currently remapped to about 165-170)

Is there anyone near Glasgow that you would recommend to remap it given that it is a bit more than a generic upload?

I've been told 210 is unrealistic, more likely 200bhp and 300lbft. Thats assuming a FMIC, stock internals & injectors and a BV43. Probably lower figures are more realistic as my engine is on 205k.

I'm going down a twin OEM SMIC setup, easier to do and will be interesting to see what results I get.


A tuning house in Crewe has been mentioned by Deano certainly not close but I'd rather drive to a recommendation rather then settle with a local tuner:

Went to crewe over the weekend to get a decent map.
Guys names jason top bloke,had several chats (emails) with him,told him of the mods etc, and was happy and confident to tune.

Got there bout 9-45,checked out town center of crewe,hmmmmm not missing much there,and returned about 3,with them just finishing off.

So finally got my goal of reaching over 200bhp
@ 205

It pulls so much better top end,loads of power. V happy for now.
Can recommend.

I cant comment on running a stage 1 map not specific to the BV43 when fitted, before a custom one is done.

Anyone with more knowledge weighing in?

The OP is referring to a BV43 with slightly different internals, so he may get a little more than 200bhp....

Other than that, I think the OP, you may have to bite the bullet and hope for a little more than a standard BV43. It's all down to what the internal difference is.

I'm using a BV43 with just a remap (mapped before fitting the BV43) and it has made a noticeable difference but it's not a huge difference, although my turbo was quite worn when i replaced it so i'm not sure how much just fitting a new/reconditioned turbo has made. The car is very drivable and people who have driven it say it feels like a remapped stock car but with a little "extra" torque. I've not had it on a rolling road as nowhere local with a 4 wheel roller (mines a Quattro).
To get the best out of fitting the new turbo a larger intercooler is a must, you don't have to "drive like you stole it" to get the benefits from a larger intercooler, the cooler the charge the more power/torque you can make. The best way to tune the map would be on a rolling road with a live map but obviously that is quite a lot more expensive than just a generic map. I've read on here that someone had 5 generic remaps before finding someone with a map that worked with the BV43 and that gave some descent performance, if you say a remap is £200, times that by 5 and that is £1000 and a lot of time, where a live map will be spot on straight away and half as expensive as that.
When i finally get round to getting a FMIC fitted i will be getting a live map done. I suppose what i'm saying is don't expect massive gains from just fitting a BV43 it will require some work to get the best from it.
