Think about getting a 3.2 v6, should I?

thank you for PROVING my argument... 8K for 350hp.. why not 4K 380HP ;) bud; not heard but seen...the workshop building the audi has DSG's always coming in.. im NOT saying DSG is slow ; but unreliable and one has to factor that in you aren't buying it new another friend bought a Mk7 GTI and 3,000kms later the DSG **** itself so no thank you ill stand clear manual is safer option even if it is SLOWER by 3 1/4's of a second big **** deal.. wait a few year maybe then mercedes put Audi in their back pocket as for the moment with their 8speed boxes.. only one i would trust BMWs' boxes are also ****

OK so let's see, 5k plus 8k is 13k for a 3.2 with a charger = 350bhp
13k plus 4k= 17k s3 with 380 but less torque over the 3.2 and still 4k more than the charged 3.2.
Now add that 4k to drop the compression with TRD and ta da.. 450bhp. Thank you very much.
No replacement for displacement!
Dsg in my experience generally fail due to skipped servicing. My point still stands, I have only heard of one guy on here with a knackered megatronic unit .

Resale will be a lot better on the s3 though, wouldn't bother spending all that on the 3.2..

There a nice car out the factory , they're a cruiser, and just really nice to drive especially on long journeys , just buy one as said for 5 grand and enjoy it..

Spot on there, the s3 will always be worth more full stop, no matter what you do to 3.2.

if you want to mod the car i wouldn't go for a 3.2 V6 as with the other drawback members have spoken off; namely if you did want to chase more power say 400+ it would be very expensive.. not sure what you could do to the 3.2 other then a cat back CAI and a remap but thats about it anything after that becomes expensive.. and BEWARE that mechatronics unit its £1,900... so not cheap at all to replace... for me DSG is bad on the audi and it isn't reliable maybe the later ones will be but the current ones are a different story; and when they go wrong they go wrong bad.. into a bottomless pit of spending. hence why a 2.0 TFSI quattro 6sp manual is what i went for though i am having a gtx3076r build... get a sportback S3 or the latter an a3 2.0tfsi they are quite different aesthetically than an 8L so you wont be bored besides a K04 will give you boost from 1800 rpm peaking at 2.5k rpm which isn't much lag remember...

putting a supercharger or a turbo onto that car will cost you at least 15k compared with an S3 you could be a gtx2867r on standard rods getting mid to high 400's.. you have to weight it up and yes the 3.2 sounds lovely but DSG and NA isnt my personal cup of tea

You can get chargers and turbo put on for way less than 15k and there is usually a member who removes it before they sell the car so can find some 2nd hand ones cheaper, remember the 3.2 is not limited to Audi it's a the same engine and chassis as the golf r32

Anyway I will stop defending the 3.2. I think you may be able to tell how much I love the car and this has all gone a bit off topic.
All the best with what you decide all I can say is its a great car for the money! Any questions feel free to pm me. Cheers.

Lol little bit off topic. Nice to hear all the same :)
I'm not looking to mod a Turbo car, I just want a quick car with a nice lump init.
I've had a S3 8L with a revo map and a fmic, which was nice but it's done now. Brought a VR6 corrado and loved the sound and pull of it. Now I want a real V6 which I can use everyday and have fun in when I want.
Im not looking to make a car faster anymore cause you always want more and more. And costs a small fortune lol can't do that anymore what with a family and a house to improve ;-)

I tried a custom exhaust which certainly made it feel tons better, it was free flowing ( straight through boxes) sounded amazing buy for a 70mile commute it got on my nerves, old age I think! Then I fitted a milltek which felt in between standard and custom but the car didn't perform any better and eventually I put the standard back on, god I'm getting old"!!!

Panel filter did nothing, but the remap did. A lot of people say don't bother and normally I'd agree, on n/a cars its just not worth it but wak on the TT forum(very highly spoke of on there) promised good gains with a VVT tweaked map. He didn't disappoint. A guy posted that at about 120 the s3 pulls ahead , I have no such issues, it pulls all the way to , well this is a public forum and I'll say no more.
There's a certain 07 plate grey s3 on the a404 that would have a good word or three about how it now performs and as said" driving like a granny 35mpg is possible.
Take your centre silencer out and replace with straight pipe (leaving your original backbox and other system) ;) No drone, only really hear it on start up and WOT ;)

Not really proved your arguement when a standard S3 is £12k to buy and a 400hp 3.2 supercharged is £13k, have you?

As for the car, I have been pondering putting an R36 into my A3;

1. I can't find any low mileage 3.2 V6 Sportbacks in DSG guide that are the 8P2 model year S-Lines. The lowest I have found is 60k...my car is 30k.

2. A standard R36 passat is 290hp?

3. I would (presumably) be able to run FWD with my current s-tronic gearbox so less transmission loss due to no quattro = more power to the wheels.

4. It would be unique, or close to presuming no one else has done an 8P R36 before?

5. When you supercharge an R36 you are looking at 450hp on standard internals.

well, good to see everyone having a bit at me on subjective bias issues due to the fact of owning one... buying a car is an investment like anything in life.. a 3.2v6 although nice and in Johnny's' circumstances would be suffice for him to enjoy the fact i was stating is not the mere price of the damn cars if you paid attention but the price of modding the car to achieve roughly the same power; and DSG AT LEAST in australia are unfortunately rubbish VW and Audi have lost market share and have been flamed badly due to this issue IN AUSTRALIA! rear diff blowing and transmission failing on new vehicles.

to make it clear i do like the 3.2v6 and it sounds amazing however to mod it its very expensive im not talking about measly power.. supercharger don't work either on that 3.2 best off going to CTS turbo and get yourself a turbo kit if you are remotely clued up. an S3 would be a wiser investment as the asset would not depreciate as badly as a 3.2 V6. AND for the sake of the argument get an A3 2.0 TFSI quattro would roughly same price as the v6 (not sure) and would likely cost less regardless as its seems this is also the 6 pot guys firmly against the 4 pot hehe...

who would spend more than the car's own value to give it a tiny bump in power must be demented... quite detrimental that...

this is also a vid of a S3 8L with a R32 engine in it with a turbo im sure you all know off in Greece.. but its cost a fortune...

I love mine, yes £40 of fuel only returns 170ish miles but you have fun doing them! The noise of it when fully flat out makes me smile every time!

Just gutted that as mentioned in this thread already its so expensive to push for any more power, most im going to do is remap it but im not even expecting much power increase. Just want to see if it irons out any flat spots.

I paid 8k for mine a year and a half ago with 40k on the clock and fsh and all that, and its a 07 plate black edition and s-line etc etc but I couldn't find another at the time and I didn't want a golf so stuck with this

Hi, I joined this forum and asked the same question as you mate.

I've now had mine for 8 months and love it, go for it! !!

Mines a 55 plate s-line but the log book says sport?

The seats are half leather but have s-line embossed on them

These cars are not investments in the slightest. They are money pits, like any other performance car.

I don't think the logbooks stated S line till around 2007 ish, I think that was when audi classed it as an actual S line model rather than Buying an audi with an S line kit as optional extras ...

This may not make sense as I'm confused myself reading this post... Ha

Yeah was a actually just thinking 2006 after i posted the above...

I'm sure that was the year that the s line kit come about...different bumpers etc

The earlier S lines look exactly the same as the sport model bumper wise ...

So you are basing your whole arguement on that stage 2 s3 costs less than stage 3 v6 therefore it is better value for money, even though the actual car is £11k more?

That is a silly way of looking at things and would only ever work (in your example) if someone had the choice of S3 or V6 for £0.

Unlikely.

I would rather have a slower V6 than a 400hp S3, do you know why? The exhaust noise!

My 05 had S-Line on the V5, no markings to the leather seats though and had the sport bumpers with the votex kit added (as pictured earlier)

In that case take no notice of what Ive said on this subject...Haah

Had my v6 for about 4 months. It's a banging car IMO would defiantly recommend ;)

I think we should have a 3.2 owners post, I'm often on the r32 to get more info on the 3.2

Its a proper sleeper of a car with almost all the benefits of the r32 without the attention and insurance tag! The downside as pointed out is to get big power it costs big bucks but when you can get a good one for 5k its a bargain in a box.

Not 100% sure , it was already on the car when I bought it. I thought it was a Votex/Vortex but not sure anymore

Try cleaning the engine bay earths, yours was the same as nine, hasn't done it in over a year.

Excuse my stupidity...My car knowledge is basic,so can you tell me where the engine earths are located? And I will give them a clean,as this issue still crops up with me randomly.

BTW.....you mentioned the A404...I use that road on commute to work after leaving M4 at J8/J9 as I work in Henley on Thames

Someone should really do this, I'll be on it all day after I've got mine lol

Thanks for all the posts, I'm sooo glad I started this thread, I'm learning so much. Keep them coming :)

Ilook around the engine bay for any cable that is bolted to the bodywork , remove and clean the rusty/lime scale build up. I cleaned all the earths around the passenger light area and it has cured the fault. They are hidden everywhere in that area.

That's the same one ;) good spot that bro .

I really want a more aggressive look to the front of my 8P, but I just think the curvature of the bumper and shape of the foglight grills on the standard bumper just don't suit these splitters, even just the cupra splitter, the 8P S-line bumber on the other hand looks ****** beaut with them.

So I was talking to one of my customers today in my barber shop about wanting a 3.2 and he said I was crazy.
He said why don't you get the 2.0 TFSI,
1- cheaper to run
2- cheaper to buy
3- quicker alround
4- more reliable

I take it he doesn't know what he's on about?
I just said yeah your proberly right, have a nice day, see you again, bye lol
