2.0T Oil issue engine repair cost

There's lots of posts regarding the 2.0T oil issues, but what I'm trying to get a handle of is how much you have paid for the engine rebuild. So my questions are:

1) how much did you pay,
2) was the car under warranty
3) where do you live (Scotland, North / Midlands / South England, Wales or Ireland. Doesn't have to be a specific location)

I've had a quote of £2,500 from my local dealer in the south. I'm considering taking it to my parents in South Wales to see what their local garage offers.

you shouldn't have to pay a penny, Audi sold you a duff engine in your car, why should you have to pay? Lesser manufacturers would cover it, why not Audi? These issues people are having has put me off buying a newer vag group car.

It's a complete joke.

Because they have the worse customer service ever !

Audi really do have terrible service but there are a whole heap of people on here who have had their engines repaired (after oil consumption investigations) for free out of warranty. The only thing they get picky on is if your car is fully up to date with servicing from audi
 
The first repairs carried out after the 1st compression failure is around £360 and if my memory serves me correctly, is for the cam shaft seals. If the car continues to use oil after this, the second compression test is carried out. It the car fails this, then it is pretty much a whole new bottom end. My work totalled nearly £6k and from that I had to pay £280 after good will gesture. I know people on here had the work carried out for FREE from Glasgow Audi on cars out of warranty. It depends on if your car has full Audi service history and I bet your loyalty to that particular dealership comes into it. I get all my servicing, MOT, accessories, parts and any work done by the same dealership so I'm sure that helped.
 
It's just like the Subaru 2.5 lump that has ring land failure and they won't even admit there's anything wrong (there's about a 100 page thread on scoobynet)
Hence Subaru stops selling in uk because of poor sales. The 2.0 is the engine that was bullet proof.

I'm taking mine in at some point, it's had full Audi service history from same dealer and I'm second owner so hopefully that should play in my favour, just unsure to take out extra warranty to cover any costs accrued 'if any'.

My local Audi dealers good will gesture was to cover the parts so I have to pay £2,500 for the labour!

I've booked the check in with Cardiff Audi. I told them I felt I was getting ripped off, so wanted to use them. I already have my letter written to Audi UK and ready to go as soon as I receive my quote!!

My garage wanted to charge me £150 for the diagnostic check compared to Cardiff who are charging me £60.

This reminds me the 2004's Audi A4 2.0TDI (140hp) injector problem...

I think Audi is a great brand but when they fail... they fail hard and the costumer pay the price
 
I paid £1200 last year when the bearings went in the flywheel knocking the engine timing out. So an extra few grand this year on another engine issue is really going to pee me off!

The 'most' you should actually pay is the labour costs depending on dealer as the parts would be free from Audi uk as they are aware of the issue, just depends how nice the garage is and if they are in good profit margins

I'm not finding £2,500 labour costs being that nice!!! Profits must be very good at those sort of rates.
 
Cardiff Audi have just quoted me £5,200 without a goodwill gesture. I told them I see a good will gesture being Audi paying for everything. I'm advised that won't be the case....the fun begins!

Glasgow Audi (lomond I think?) paid 100% good will to at least 2 members on here, whose cars were out of warranty.
 
I've drafted a letter to Audi UK. Im wondering whether to go in hard or give them a call first to see where I get to.
 
Sorry to ask what might seem a dumb question - Are the oil issues just on the 2.0T?
 
My wife had just taken the car back to the garage half way through its test to show them she has done 230 miles and used almost half a litre of oil. She told them that it seemed to be a common problem, but the mechanic said that if it was a design fault the problem would have occurred from the outset.

He then went on to tell her that they have conducted quite a few of these repairs, but mainly on Diesel engines!

Now I'm quite happy for somebody to shoot me down if they think I'm wrong, but I get two things out of this.

Firstly aren't at least 70% of Audi's on the road diesel? And secondly does that mean most of the Audi engine range are sh!t?

I'm starting to get wound up now.

I think he's talking rubbish.

The 2.0 diesels have certainly had their problems like cracked heads, injector issues and turbo issues but as far as I'm aware the excessive oil consumption is a problem with the 2.0t almost exclusively.

It's very well documented. Maybe the 'mechanic' should do some research

That mechanic is just blagging you, think you need to kick off!!!
And tell them it was using oil from the outset, but got told the handbook line that it uses oil (seems they have covered the selfs in handbook too)
 
Two observations here, from me, (1) Audi as a brand has, it has been said, the biggest "difference" between customer satisfaction with car and customer satisfaction with service - at a guess car gets 95% rating, dealer service 5% rating. (2) In my experience, "Audi" engines tend to be good, generic VAG (non Audi) engines are indeed mainly crap. VAG seems compelled to getting modern/fancy engines quickly to market and this wins industry awards world wide, then the customer gets hit with big bills even taking "good will" payments into account.

Me, originally thought a 2.0TFSI Q would do nicely, but luckily seemed to drift to a 3.0TFSI Q - and they have had problems early on. For wife's next (small) car, I would like a 1.2TFSI - but that is not any better than the 2.0TFSI or the 1.4TFSI. Dealers of all VAG products seem amazed that their customers are having a problem that has never been seen before - but VAG forums are full of true tales of failure and subsequent rework. Brilliant "idea", VAG and their dealer should have a look at VAG forums!!?? I just keep hoping that other cars are just as crap, otherwise I would have jumped years ago. A guy at work was having rattly noises at cold start up with his 1.2TFSI Leon, but "good" honest family owned dealership could not help until it went in for a service - "your timing chain has stretched and if we don't replace it, tensioner and damper, your engine will be stuffed as well as getting the shredded damper fibre into the oil pan and blocking the oil pick-up" - parts seem to take a long time to come - back order? All fixed now outside of warranty at no cost to owner - now he gets told "it is a known fault with these engines" - so why wait so long before giving in and repairing it, maybe VAG are controlling the rate of free rework?
 
it also affects the 18T
 
I think it only the 2.0T affected up to about 2011 from what I can see on the web. Nothing really about 1.8T having these issues
 
A friend of mine got Audi to pay for 75% of the costs but he decided this was worth it as the Cam belt and water pump were due to be replaced due to mileage anyway

The 2.0T is chain driven.
 
Just checked with him it was oil pump and water pump that had a small leak so were all changed in rebuild costs - they also supplied a TT as had it for over a month!
 
The car has just had its final calibration test and it's using 1.5l/1000km. That's an expensive car to run!
