Previous owner had my car (a3 2.0 tfsi (57 plate)) remapped , reckons it's running around 240bhp.

Any suggested places around Leicestershire area (Hinckley area).

Also any idea on price?

Cheers

A price for what?

If it's remapped already I'm not exactly sure what your after?

Put it on a rolling road and see what it brings up...it might have a decent map on it already .

Sorry , should of made it more clear, the map has made the mpg pretty poor , so might go for a more fuel constious one, getting around 20mpg

Another recommendation for Nick at RTech, I received faultless service and very pleased with the results on my S3. Health check, pre map dyno, map, dyno, then road test for £290.

Thanks for the input! :)

Seems like a good service!

Another similar bespoke mapper is Rick @ Unicorn. He's based in Manchester, knows so much about mapping and will answer any questions you may have. Can't recommend enough :)

When so called mappers 'remap' cars, some of the things they change are shocking! < simply put. Somebody who can remap a car NOT by increasing vital pressures and parameters is Nick @ Monster Tuning, Telford.

He has laughed at how badly some 'big companies' have tuned things not to mention 'custom' maps lol. Monster is my recommendation.

That's fight talk.....haah

Just some advice! No trash talk, just some facts :) admittedly if I was saying this without any idea or proof that would be different. All I'm trying to do is get people a nice remap and prolong their engines!

And I always trust a business that sells it's own business credentials using propaganda to rubbish the work of others rather than selling product based on the merits of his own. It's the way the industry seems to be going given the increase in competiton.

I've had 12 years of 'big company' maps and I've not had one engine replacement or failure, so are 'the facts' REALLY 'the facts' or just 'your facts' interpreted through the words of a third party?

There's a lot of chat here and very little helpful advice; you'll find the tuning market saturated with companies that are desperate to make a name for themselves and do so by belittling competitors. It's very possible that the software installed on your car is perfectly acceptable, the fuel consumption you're currently getting might not be directly related to the software at the end of the day it's a seven year old car and could have a few minor issues that need looking at before addressing the map...
...get a full health check done first, if you've decided that you are going to have the car remapped again then it would be advised to have the car flashed to stock then you could pick and choose the diagnostic centre to use for a health check. Make sure everything's running 100% and then have it mapped again.
That said, it could well be the software not being very good... but anyone you take it too is going to tell you it's the software, unless it's their own! Either that or you'd find companies wouldn't want to comment on someone else's software.

Firstly Nick was employed by them a matter of months ago. He build his name and reputation up by himself and was head hunted. As you say 'the way the industry is going' is a bad thing! Companies are offering generic maps! That's madness. No one car is the same so adding 10% to all your limiters and requests isn't wise. They charge a huge price for something that can be emailed and flashed. It's greed.

But like you say you've had a good experience!

Back to the OP though, I agree with RevoKev, take it back to main dealer to have the original software flashed again and start from scratch if the health checks come back ok. If you check out the VCDS map, one of your local members may be able to run diagnostics and do some logging to see what's causing the economy issue. From there you'll be able to pin point the problem, whether it's the software or hardware.

But like you say you've had a good experience!

In 14 years of owning remapped cars I've had Oettinger, AmD (both Lower Oddington & Bicester based companies), MTM and Revo (on a raft of cars from NA to turbo). All have been various flavours of good to brilliant, and as good as the map itself may or may not be, the magic piece of the jigsaw is as much the company ethos as it is the product.

I want a product that I know has been tirelessly tested, and very often only the larger companies can afford to get their hands on vehicles and test them intensively across an entire vehicle portfolio to gain the experience and know how, as well as getting the appropriate tools and training in place within their organisations.

I also want to know the business has a shelf life, and it's still going to be there is a period of time in case I need to call on their help in future. We live in difficult times, and with a fiercely competitive marketplace there are no guarantees companies will be trading in 6 months time.

One thing that really adds value to the forum for all the members is being able to read articulately expressed values of good customer service, good product, and personal experiences with tuning companies. Likewise where things go less well candid discussion is also encouraged to benefit those who may make decisions in the future, and help to resolve ongoing issues.

Cheap shots and stirring don't help people make better decisions, they just embed unhelpful urban myths like the K&N MAF oiling saga etc. People should keep an open mind, visit tuning houses and make a decision as much based on personality / first impressions as they should about forum trends or 'bhp spike values' on a manufactured rolling road graph. Build a relationship with the RIGHT tuner (whoever that is), and you'll have a very useful ally if things get tough.

Toby I totally agree with what your saying as no one hardly ever talks about every car not been the same on every forum .........

But the bigger company generic maps are normally run ultra safe after spending thousands and thousands on development and I can't think of reading about anyone having one of those types of a standard stage 1 kind of tune and causing damage to a car ( then again I am only on a few forums ) unless something like the clutch or turbo has given up the ghost, but with these kind of maps there should never be any issues with EGT's,AFR's etc but people who are mapping cars even though they have only done a stage 1 can often check these with a probe and other readings you can use vagcom etc or even better still as mentioned above do a health check on the car before hand .

Also the problems don't come from anyone with knowledge on mapping they in fact come with problems with people who buy the programs to do there own software with no real back ground or the people who buy the mapping equipment from a specific tuner but don't bother with the health checks of the cars they are charging to put that software on .

There are some brilliant tuners and software developers all around the world and then again as in any trade there are some cowboys and that's why forums are a brilliant place because of others peoples word of mouth and advice

I'm not going to bother... Go wherever or to whoever you want for a remap. I personally have given my 'opinion' and 'advice' take it on board or don't. Stirring is very different to advice.

I only say these things about the companies because at the end of the day Bosch etc. and Audi work together and they place engine limiters there for a reason! They're knowledge is the only thing I'll take on board. When a 'generic' map is injecting more fuel @ WOT but still producing less power, that's when I question their techniques. Anyone can make quick and easy power gains. The hard part is maximising the output without changing your parameters significantly.

Anyway, I'm sorry if I've offended or touched anyone's nerves!

I don't think you have, all that's being suggested is people make decisions based on more factors than one tuners opinion of 'big tuners'. Its a huge and costly undertaking and needs considering from a number of different angles when buying.

It seems like from your first sentence you might be offended and that wasn't the intention at all, I think it's just important to keep a big picture view (I wasn't insinuating you were stirring, I was insinuating the person giving you their view may have been, in case you took offence at that). Relax man, it's all good.

Using your 'logic'... you should be arguing against everything that increases the power/performance of an engine, as Audi and Bosch/etc/etc have worked together to have a car running as it does when it comes out of the factory, not with 20% more power.

Did anyone mention that a factory map is a compromise for poorer quality fuels, yet?

They're mapped to consider many things like altitude, humidity, temperatures as they have to be able to work in the English weather (rain) then drive up a 3000m mountain to the Alps followed by a trip through the desert :)

...So there's plenty of overhead for remapping. :)

R-tech are close to you, or you could travel up to Shark performance.

Go with first hand advice or personal experience of a company that you feel comfortable with.

Some companies are not worth trying, to everyday Joe Bloggs a car feels fast from a non reputable tuner, however when looking into the nitty gritty, its easily found how some of these maps are of poor quality.

Always gone to JBS myself and never had a problem always been happy. Look into things check some blogs on here an then decide for yourself, then no one else is to blame. I've just totalled my S3 so when I get another think I'm going to try one of revo's maps.

Ill second this. Nothing but good experiences from Nick.

My mate had a car done at that place in Telford, poor reviews. Had to have it done again by someone else.

Unfortunately, they don't have a great reputation locally!!

They don't write their own maps, they are bought in. Apparantly the car was in and out in 30mins!!

Anyone know much about Celtic tuning then whilst on the subject? Or better still.... Got there remap for there S3
