Hi all,

Soooo... yesterday I get a message from one of my friends on one of my pictures on Instagram of my Audi saying.... "got a sat nav for you, call me".

So, I call him. I meet up with him and get the rns-e and walk away with a huge smile. I asked what I owed him and he said nothing, (amazing) all I need to do is get it uncoded as he has misplaced the code. So I thought no problem, saves me buying a unit as they're not cheap.

Come home today after work and I'm itching to fit it - when I do, I realise it doesn't fit. GUTTED !!! It came out of his A4 and obv I have an A3 soooo I was happy but yet now I'm disappointed. I guess I will be saying thanks but doesn't fit :'( and give it back. I guess the gesture to give me it was awesome just a shame it wasn't the right one (he did have an A3 previously so I was assuming it was from that!).

So overall today was a good day for but also a disappointing one.

Thats weird... I thought a RNS-E is a RNS-E... The front logo can be coded for different cars.. So whats the point in that if it cant be fitted to different cars!? You 100% positive that it doesnt fit!?

whats that alu strip at the bottom... Mine doesnt have that.. Maybe thats your problem

Yeah, I included some pics. It's cos the a3 corners are rounded and the a4 is more square. hm. Like you say I assumed it would be the same!

Yeah I see that now... Shame tho... Must be a way surely!?

I dont think so. Unless I swap/sell this for one for the A3. But seeing as it was given to me I don't know if I should be selling it or changing it. Hmm.

All rnse are the same just the facia is different, these can be bought on ebay and swapped over.

Looks like I might sell this rnse and buy another for the a3... unless the fascia thing works, which I couldnt seem to find on ebay.

Sounds like it is stolen. Why would someone give away an RNS-E for free and even if so then it wouldn't need a code...

Guys, this came out of my mates A4 a couple of years ago before he sold it and has been in his garage ever since. No it is NOT stolen. ****** hell. He has had many Audi's over the years including an A3 Identical to mine except colour (Now a TT) and has gathered various parts in his garage over the years. I feel like I am having to justify myself in this post, bit harsh. Only posted up here mainly because of his generosity! Just because someone gives away something for free doesn't mean it is stolen.

'Cos he's a good mate?

To be totally honest, when I posted this thread the last thing I was expecting was is it stolen, I never even thought someone would assume that. Anyway, as I already said. No.

And yes he is a good mate, a top mate who know I am totally miffed as to what I can buy as a thank you gift. (Yes BUY not STEAL).

I know he would appreciate something like this Johnnie Walker Gold Label 18 Year Old : Buy Online - The Whisky Exchange so today I will be going to get him something just to say thanks.

Surely you can appreciate what the guys are saying - there's been a huge amount of Rns-e thefts these past few years, down to the fact it put me off buying an S3 and buying a BE A3 instead.

I can see what you are saying about him being a good mate - I have got two old 1970's VWCampers and the guys on our forum very often give expensive parts to help friends out, very often it's for the price of postage!

Yea I guess. I have had a rant on one of the other car forums I use. I feel better after some kind words from people who have known me online forums for the last 7/8 years. I guess I am not as known on this forum however as you say- friends do help others out. Funny thing is I was going to give this back him as it didnt fit, but we're agreed I will sell it (dont worry not on this forum) and use the £ and get a suitable one for my car.

No, but generally you're only looking at around a week for tracked items from Taiwan to be delivered so it's not too bad. Good things come to those who wait and all that...
