What is full DIS?

I keep reading people's mods or factory spec in sigs and in general posts, and quite often I'm seeing full DIS as a mod, what is a 'full DIS'? My DIS isn't a colour DIS but I have all satnav instructions etc come up on it, so does that mean I have a full DIS? And what's the difference between a DIS that isn't full and one that is?

DIS is the Driver Information System.

'Normal' DIS is just a DTE (Distance to Empty) reading.

'Full' DIS adds avg mpg, actual mpg, timer, and ave speed. Typically full DIS also adds the bulb out warning system.
 
One thing if you enable full DIS, you will need to ground out a pin on the rear of the instrument cluster that brings a low washer bottle level warning on, (cant recall which pin it is now), OR fully retrofit the low water level sensor. If you dont do either you will have the low water level warning on constantly. I did the latter because I wanted to do the job properly. Its an easy job to do.
 
Ah, thanks for clearing that little query up for me there! So I can safely say I have full DIS from the factory then as I have all over the above mentioned.

Looks like it. Another little tell tale for if it's full DIS, is if you have the tiny little '1' or '2' in the top right of the lower part of the display (if you get me). This is for trip 1 and trip 2
 
So I take it full DIS was a factory optional extra then?
 
I would imagine so as mine wasn't enabled. I had to do it myself with VCDS and do the washer bottle sensor mod

I dont have full dis but it does tell me when my washer bottle is empty, how easy would it be for me to get full.

If you haven't got full DIS you would need the wiper stalk with the buttons on the end and on the underside of the stalk which operate the functions of DIS. Once you have that its a two minute VCDS session to activate it
 
I've retro fitted one to mine, after fitting the new stalk all it would do is switch DIS on and off, i dont think the stalk was activated in the correct way with vag-com.

Is there anybody near to burnley in lancashire that fancys having a go @ gettin it workin? i'll happy pay????????

It bugs the hell out of me that i've fitted it but cant use it...:sob:
 
Sorry to dive in here lads but had a quick search and couldn't find an answer... For some reason, each time I start my Avant up (with full dis) it says "OK" then automatically shows temp and direction car is facing (N, S, E, W, NE, NW... etc) I click the up and down buttons on the right hand stalk and nothing changes...? I'd like it to be the full dis display each time I start the car... how do I get it to stay on that setting? I've tried a few different things but it just never seems to remember that I want the full dis up (probably journey time but I can never resist checking avg mpg on every now and again!) when I start the engine...? Must be doing something stoopid I reckon! Any help really appreciated...

Do you have sat nav?,because looks like you have activated the compass.

its probably in the sticky but hell Il ask anyway..

Who can tell me how much the stalk with DIS controls on are?

I really fancy this but I wonder how much it costs to do the conversion and if its really worth it....

I think they are even cheaper then that ive been told £35!

I have just fitted mine today in preparation for my cruise stalk although once coded it I haven't got the bulb out warnings!

Ohh looks like Il have to get one ordered at the end of the month! Anyone have a part number at all?

Anyone get any guides or anything anywhere? Is it quite complicated to fit the additional stalk or is it fairly plug and play?
 
I dont have the stalk with the buttons on it, can someone still enable the DIS on my car? at the moment nothing shows up in that area other than gear im in (as I have a DSG) at the bottom and the radio station at the top, middle section is empty.

I'm in the North West London area.

AAHH!! Thanks, you have juts answered a question I was about to post up. Ive no headlight bulb in atm and was wondering why I didnt have a bulb out warning. I dont have DIS.

So I take it that this means that cars with out DIS dont have to get the likes of Canbus led bulbs or HID kits?

i have just enabled full DIS and still dont get bulb out warnings! while other people it has worked for them!

i did a bit of googling and found out its due to a electronics module under the dash there is the odd car out there that wont show bulb outs with full DIS
 
does anyone have the part number for the indicator stalk with the DIS buttons on the end of it?
 
its the wiper stalk you want not indicator
