Front discs warped

Hi, I have now fitted 3 sets of quality discs and pads to the front if my a6, each time the discs warp within 5000 miles.
At first I thought it was the quality of the discs but Pagid are a pretty good.
I've obviously checked everything, bearings nice and tight, all upper arms are brand new.
Getting fed up with changing the D&P!
Any ideas?

How's your driving style ? to this day i never warped a set of discs... Pagid is what i have on Martin's a6- no issues with them whatsoever... Maybe it's time to go with bigger brakes, HP2 calipers and 320mm discs is more than enough to stop the a6 on a dime !

Just a minor thread hijack - just getting a set of these discs and calipers sorted for mine - where has anyone sourced braided lines from - no one ever seems to list for these calipers ie 2002 ish S6 and do the braided lines go straight onto calipers with banjo fitting or do you retain the bit of rigid pipe?
Or is there a better solution?

Chris, I drive like I'm 70! No harsh braking. Only thing I can think is there is a slight untrue ness of the flanges. I've had that on a golf before.

Caliper carriers do twist and pistons drag on the pad thus wearing the pads abnormally. I would not waste time anymore, source a pair of 320mm discs and HP2 calipers off ebay and fit that- best upgrade for under 300 quid...

Do you really need braided hoses ? Normal rubber pipes are rather cheap and easy to change just use a quality flared spanner so the nuts don't get rounded off... Look online for Hel or Goodridge braided hoses...

Have a look at the back and make sure all is OK there, you haven't got any sticking calipers or sliders,And pad wear is even.How are you braking in the new pads and discs you are putting on. A lot of the time you can get vibration because of pad deposits on the disc surface. If you can see an imprint of the pad on the disc you have probably braked to a stop and left your foot on the brakes. The heat burns the pad surface off and transfers it to the disc.

Call Questmead & ask for Mintex dics & 1144 pads for the allroad (later pad type!). They keep them in stock since I got the first sets made to order. Never warped a disc or faded pads since, even on road rallies or towing car trailers.

No, Pagid cost about £30 a disc and audi were £70 a disc. Next step is get a credit note from ECP and get Bosch Discs from Andrew Page, which are cheaper anyway.

Wes, get your money back and buy HP2 calipers, they are good enough with 300 Bhp- struggles a little with my a6 avant but planning on switching to 345mm s4 brakes- currently only 320 with Pagid pads...

What was the out come of this please?

My a4 B7 has warped 3 sets of pagid front disks all under 1500 miles per set with no hard braking and all miles on motorway.

Warped as in bench run out tested or warped as in not quite right?
As with adamss24 never yet warped a disc ever despite track days, some dodgy cheap discs/pads and knackered vehicles over the years.
Have however trashed some discs with knackered/part seized calipers.
I know its a pain with the floating discs but use some short bolts and check the hub is not deformed with a run out gauge.
It is quite possible to torque a wheel on and the disc still not be fully home (done it).

Hi thanks for the reply, hubs have all been checked and are fine, after fitting new disks it is fine for around 1000 miles, but gradually when breaking down through 40mph I get a judder so every time up to junctions and roundabouts etc but braking on a main road or over 40mph there is no judder.

No hard driving no heavy braking driving using gears to slow down so as to put minimal heat in them. This is the family car and carts my 2 YO around. Calipers have been checked and all release properly with no line issues found. I am miffed by this as I have never in my life damaged a disk through miss use and I have quite regularly on works vans and my current work hack (astra estate) got the brakes so hot they didn't even work and once cooled they still work perfectly.

The garage that have fitted the new brakes work to a very high standard I know the owner personally so there is no BS going on and if I thought they were not upto scratch I wouldn't let them work on it.

The only thing I can think is a didgy batch of disks that are stress releaving when they go through heat cycles? or possibly the pads have a bad compound they are also Pagid.

any help or advice is much appreciated here

Mine stopped every time I jacked it up for a week or so. We're the suspect discs tested (dial gauge)?
Testing the lower arms is easy just remove wheel grab arm and see if there is any play. Not saying your wrong but it's ****** difficult to bend a disc even if you try. If the discs are indeed out then the manufacturing is suspect IMHO.

Hi that's odd! , yes they were checked and had run out but very minimal, the hubs checked out ok.

Ive never warped a disk in my life ill try jacking it before I next drive it and see if it goes away!

Judder is uneven pad deposits on the disc surface.

It's a pad/disc brand compatible thing usually.

That's true. EBC have the same problem.

But I have Pagid discs with EBC Redstuff with no issues, just low dust great braking.

It's true, the Audi/Brembo front brake pads do indeed have PAGID friction material...

But I have Pagid discs with EBC Redstuff with no issues, just low dust great braking.

Here too, the standard Brembo RS3 brake disc but now with REDSTUFF and so much better you'd wonder why Audi changed: brake discs, brake pads, brake calipers, and then added tuned REQUILL absorbers to 'hide' the brake squeal, but didn't for me.

My RS3 brakes now with REDSTUFF front and rear are amazingly good, very good...:thumbsup:

I had 'sudden' steering vibration last week as we arrived in Cornwall on holiday, it just started one day between 30-40mph only when braking.... I don't brake hard and don't sit with my foot on the brake pedal after using the brakes a lot (heat soak)

After speaking with John(45bvtc) then inspecting the discs I've put it down to deposits off the EBC redstuff pads, I had the whole setup replaced in May by Audi after 'issues' but took the original 'new' brembo/Pagid pads out 100 miles later and put in EBC redstuff to cure the Squeal (which it did).

Lot of info online suggesting a lot of 'warped' discs are down to pad deposits on the disc surface.

I also cleaned the discs when I got back home with Wolfs De-iron gel, everything seems fine now.

so there is a good chance if i ditch the pagid pads the judder may go away?
