a friend of mine today who is very knowledgable about cars told me that a good upgrade for my car would be to replace my turbo with a standard td04 turbo off of an subaru impreza, as these tubos spool up quicker. he reckons that all the fitments are the same and it would bolt straight in, and they are a lot cheaper to buy than just the standard turbo thats in there now. is this true or is he having me on????

Interesting! A stock turbo on a 2 litre 16v engine spool faster than a stock turbo from an 1.8 20v? I dont know but hopefully somebody does! But my mind is saying this isnt right as a larger capacity engine can run a bigger turbo as the extra capacity helps it spool quicker but as its only 200cc difference who knows..... Im googling!

not just a case of bolting a turbo str8 on mate. you'd want a suitable exhaust manifold and downpipe, injectors, oil and coolent lines etc.....
you'd be better going for a ihi kit, or a gt28 kit

Ive heard someone say this before. IIRC the turbos are made by KKK just like the A3's but isnt a direct fit.

if only they did, i have a lovely td05 revamped by turbo technics sitting in my garage waiting to be put back on my impreza, would be awsome if it was just a simple bolt on mod but as mentioned there is a lot of supporting mods needed for this to work on my s3

Not a direct bolt on for sure. T25 maniflod, new downpipes, new intake pipe, oil feeds and drains. Gains can be had, but its all specialist one off type of work.Would cost ya a kidney and half your left arm to pay someone to do it, Assuming you not doing most of it yourself

And this guy can fab his own manifol ad such

i know mate i miss it so much!! td05 makes the k04 feel like a toy turbo lol i have a revo mapped s3 but to be honest it would not even come close to the impreza, its only classic wrx, in mica blue, but i spent a fortune on it, intercooler, zero sports headers, decat, re map, uprated clutch, suspension, p1 prodrive alloys etc, been sat in my garage for 2-3 years now still mint only done 50k, I imported it totally standard about 6 year ago , gonna be my mission this year to get it back on the road, ive had about 4 - 5 over the years, absolutely love them really easy to work on and never really let me down, if fact id say i have had more problems with my S3 in the year i have owned it than all the years of subaru ownership, in fact just posting this is making me more deturmined to get it sorted, i need to feel that td05 power :)

it would be capable of more power than a k04 anyway.

I have a v2 impreza sti type RA running td05 and s3 running stage 2 hybrid :)

I dont have time to read fully all the messages I get bombarded with, let alone some of the more obscure forum posts.
